Trailer stops on Second Link due to tyre puncture before being rear-ended
JOHOR BARU: A trailer carrying chemicals plunged into the sea after it was rear-ended while parked on the Second Link bridge due to a tyre puncture.
Iskandar Puteri police chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan, said both drivers involved in the crash at Km0.8 of the Plus highway's Second Link northbound stretch sustained minor injuries.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that a trailer carrying an ISO tank had stopped on the left lane of the bridge due to a punctured tyre.
"Another trailer travelling behind it collided into the rear right side of the stationary vehicle, causing it to swerve and the ISO tank it was transporting to fall into the sea.
"Both drivers suffered minor injuries," he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Kumarasan urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Iskandar Puteri Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) at 07-5101322.
Earlier today, it was reported that a chemical container had fallen into the sea following a crash involving two trailers on the bridge.
One trailer was transporting propylene glycol, while the other carried sodium hypochlorite.
The ISO tank containing propylene glycol plunged into the sea. However, authorities confirmed that there was no leakage from the tank, and no surface foam, oil slicks or bubbles were observed.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department's hazardous materials (Hazmat) unit was deployed to the scene as a precautionary measure to monitor for any signs of contamination.
