GCC hails Qatar's efforts to broker Gaza ceasefire

QNA Kuwait The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) hailed the strenuous efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar, in close coordination with its mediation partners, mainly the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, to broker a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of hostages, and ensure the unfettered entry of life-saving humanitarian aid. The Council stressed the imperative of bringing the Israeli aggression on the Strip to an end and called for extending full-fledged political and diplomatic backing to reach an enduring and comprehensive resolution. The final communique, issued after the 164th Session of the GCC Ministerial Council, convened on Monday in Kuwait, reaffirmed the GCC's unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and underscored the urgency of alleviating their protracted suffering. The Council called for an immediate end to the Israeli-imposed blockade, the full opening of all border crossings to facilitate the unhindered entry of humanitarian and relief aid, as well as essential supplies, and the guaranteed, uninterrupted delivery of these necessities to the civilian population across the Strip. The Council condemned the announcement by the Israeli occupation authorities regarding the establishment of an agency aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, affirming its unequivocal support for the resilience of the Palestinian people on their territories. It firmly rejected all attempts to depopulate Gaza and underscored the imperative of respecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their own soil, while warning against any destabilizing actions that seek to undermine their inalienable rights. In addition, the Council held the Israeli occupation fully accountable for its persistent violations and brutal assaults on the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in the martyrdom of tens of thousands of civilians, mostly women and children, acts that constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity under international humanitarian law. The Council condemned the Israeli occupation's ratification of the plan to fragment 13 settlement enclaves in the West Bank, its relentless construction of settlement units across the occupied Palestinian territory, and the forcible eviction of Palestinians from their homes. It reaffirmed its outright rejection of any attempts to annex West Bank settlements to the Israeli entity. On the Gulf front, the Council underscored its enduring commitment to the strength and cohesion of the GCC, the unity of its ranks, and the advancement of greater coordination, integration, and interconnectedness across all sectors, so as to fulfill the aspirations of GCC citizens. It affirmed that its member states stand in absolute solidarity in the face of any threat targeting any of the GCC states. The Council took note of the political efforts spearheaded by GCC member states and Arab nations to cease the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, commending the humanitarian and relief assistance extended by GCC states to Gaza, including the popular campaigns launched to support the Palestinian people and ensure the delivery of life-saving aid to the embattled population. The Council hailed the outcomes of the Gulf–US Summit 2025, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 14, 2025, and the Second ASEAN–Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, convened on May 27, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Both summits underscored the growing strategic alignment and reinforced multilateral cooperation frameworks. On the Syrian issue, the Council stressed the imperative of upholding Syria's sovereignty, independence, and territorial unity, unequivocally rejecting any foreign meddling in its internal affairs. It affirmed that the security and stability of Syria constitute a fundamental pillar of regional security architecture. On the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the Council reiterated that its stance is anchored in the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, emphasizing the preservation of the rules-based international order founded on respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence. The communique further took note of the diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly its hosting of direct talks between the Russian Federation and the United States of America over Ukraine crisis, expressing hope that such engagements would culminate in advancing their intended objectives of bolstering security and stability. It welcomed the ceasefire deal reached between India and Pakistan and their decision to prioritize wisdom and restraint, expressing hope that this development would pave the way for restoring security and stability across the region.

"Israeli" forces ram bus carrying elderly Hajj pilgrims in West Bank

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) carried out fresh military raids across the occupied West Bank early Saturday, detaining two Palestinians and damaging a bus that was transporting Hajj pilgrims in Jenin. The incident unfolded outside the governorate building in Jenin city, where a bus full of elderly pilgrims was preparing to leave for the Karama border crossing en route to Saudi Arabia. A military vehicle rammed into the parked bus, sparking outrage among Palestinian officials and community members. According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, the IOF vehicle "hit the bus deliberately," although no physical injuries were reported. Jenin Deputy Governor Mansour al-Saadi strongly condemned the event, saying, "The occupation vehicle deliberately and directly hit the bus while it was parked outside the governorate building. Most of the passengers were elderly and suffering from chronic illnesses, which added to the trauma and fear." Palestinians from the West Bank often rely on Jordanian airports for international travel due to Israeli-imposed restrictions on movement. Elsewhere in the West Bank, a young man named Samer Jaradat was arrested during a raid in Silat al-Harithiya, a town west of Jenin. As the IOF withdrew, a small explosive device reportedly detonated in the area, though no injuries were confirmed. In the town of Anabta near Tulkarem, IOF troops stormed the home of 24-year-old Diana Ghalib Mazid and arrested her, according to WAFA. Raids were also reported in Nablus, targeting the Askar New Camp in the east and the al-Ain Camp in the west of the city. Residents reported hearing gunfire and sound bombs, though the extent of damage or arrests remains unclear.

Israel approves West Bank settlement expansion as Gaza strikes kill 13

A much-criticised new aid distribution group backed by the US and Israel has begun working in Gaza. ITV News' Senior International Correspondent John Irvine reports. Israel has approved the establishment of 22 new Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, including the legalisation of previously unauthorised outposts. The announcement came as Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed at least 13 Palestinians overnight, according to local health officials. The strikes hit areas already devastated by nearly three months of Israeli-imposed border closures, which have deepened Gaza's humanitarian crisis. Israel's government continues to face global criticism over its settlement expansion in the West Bank, territory it has occupied since the 1967 war. The international community largely considers the settlements illegal under international law. Calls are growing within Isaeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to re-establish settlements in Gaza, which Israel evacuated in 2005, and to encourage the "voluntary emigration" of Palestinians from the enclave, raising concerns of forced displacement. The latest escalation follows Hamas's 7 October 2023 assault on southern Israel, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages taken. Israel's ongoing military response has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. In a separate incident in the West Bank, an Israeli newborn has died after his mother, Tzeela Gez, was shot and killed by a Palestinian gunman while en route to hospital. The baby was delivered by emergency caesarean before dying from its injuries. Prime Minister Netanyahu called the attack a "murder of a newborn baby along with his mother" and vowed continued military action. The developments have fuelled further instability across the region, as violence persists in both Gaza and the West Bank amid faltering diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis From Westminster to Washington DC - our political experts are across all the latest key talking points. Global Coalition of 32 Countries Plans Historic March to Gaza on Foot

DayofPal– An international coalition of solidarity movements, trade unions, and human rights organizations from over 32 countries has announced the launch of the 'Global March to Gaza. In a bold and unprecedented move, the Global March to Gaza aims to reach the besieged Palestinian enclave on foot in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The coalition, which brings together more than 10,000 participants from diverse backgrounds, mostly from Western countries, intends to raise global awareness and directly challenge the ongoing Israeli blockade that has gripped Gaza for nearly 20 months. The initiative is being spearheaded by the International Coalition Against Israeli Occupation, led by Seif Abu Keshk, who described the march as a collective call to the 'genocide' of the Palestinian people. According to the organizers, the march has five core objectives. The first goal is to end Genocide in Gaza, and halt what organizers describe as systematic and deliberate efforts to starve and kill Palestinian civilians, particularly children, by drawing global attention and applying pressure on governments and international bodies. The second goals is the immediate Delivery of Aid. With thousands of aid trucks stalled at the Gaza crossings, participants are demanding the immediate and unrestricted entry of food, medicine, and essential supplies into Gaza via the Rafah crossing. A central goal is also to break the Israeli-imposed blockade on Gaza and call for the establishment of a permanent humanitarian corridor to ensure the flow of life-saving supplies without political interference. In addition, the initiative seeks to rally civil society across the world to confront the complicity and silence of many governments regarding Israeli actions, and to pressure lawmakers to take firm stances in support of Palestinian rights. Organizers, furthermore, are urging international legal bodies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for war crimes and violations of international law committed against the Palestinian population. German lawyer Melanie Schweitzer emphasized that the march is entirely peaceful and civilian-led, inspired by historic solidarity movements. 'This is a civilian action rooted in global humanitarian concern. No government is funding or directing this effort—participants are volunteers covering their own costs,' she said. The march also aims to represent the voice of global civil society through the participation of trade unions, medical organizations, humanitarian groups, and citizens from all walks of life. Organizers hope to send a unified message of peace, justice, and global solidarity. Given the multinational nature of the initiative, march planners have divided participants into regional groups to facilitate coordination and overcome logistical challenges related to language, culture, and geography. All groups are scheduled to converge in Cairo starting June 12, from where they will proceed toward the Rafah border crossing into Gaza. Edward Camacho, a representative of the Catalan Alternative Union (IAC), noted that participants are responsible for their own expenses and that only minimal logistical support will be available. 'We are committed to making this happen, regardless of the hardships,' he stated. As the world watches, the Global March to Gaza is poised to become one of the most significant acts of international civilian solidarity in recent history, shining a spotlight on the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and calling for immediate global action.
