Two in hospital after incident on County Durham street leaves road cordoned off
A police probe is underway after two people were left hospitalised in an incident in Chester-le-Street.
A cordon was erected on Front Street in Pelton with CSI officers seen working in the Istanbul Pizza House takeaway on Sunday (May 25) morning.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Saturday night at about 10.45pm and two people were taken to hospital.

One resident told the Echo: 'It must have been about half past 10. People started standing on the pavement up the road then the police started arriving. We didn't see anything else, but they were still here this morning.'
The cordon was in place until about 11am on Sunday. (Image: Daniel Hordon) For others the first they knew of the incident was as they headed to the local Co-op or betting shop. Another local added: 'I didn't know anything about it until I came up to the shop. It's quite quiet around here normally.'
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: 'We were called to an incident on Front Street, Pelton shortly after 10:45 last night, Saturday 24 May.

'We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car. Two patients were taken to hospital.'
The cordon was lifted just after 11am on Sunday with police leaving a short time later.
Durham Police initially said in a statement on social media: 'Front Street in Pelton, Chester Le Street is closed between the junctions of The Wynd and Grange Street. It is likely to be closed for some time.'
