Iraq, China partner for first nuclear training reactor
Shafaq News/ Iraq is preparing to sign an agreement with China's Atomic Energy Authority, marking the construction of its first nuclear training reactor, the head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education, Naeem al-Aboudi, announced on Sunday. In a press conference, al-Aboudi described the facility as a subcritical reactor intended for academic and research purposes. The project aims to build the capabilities of students and researchers in nuclear physics and peaceful radiation technologies. 'This is a milestone for Iraq's scientific infrastructure and a step toward restoring our nuclear research capacity on peaceful terms,' he stated. Al-Aboudi also confirmed that three sites at the Al-Tuwaitha complex, southeast of Baghdad, have been declared free of radioactive contamination. These include the French LAMA laboratories, an Italian-built radioisotope production facility, and the Tammuz-2 research reactor. Radiation surveys were carried out using rigorous scientific methods, with results showing no traces of hazardous radioactive material.

The last will and relationship agreement of a Queensland rich-lister
The estate of former Queensland rich-lister Keith Lloyd can finally be settled after a court ruled that an ex-partner had already been paid out and was not entitled to another $1 million from the sale of his luxury properties and superyacht. Lloyd died in November 2023, aged 85, and was survived by children and grandchildren from his first marriage to ex-wife, Meta. He left an estate that included his Kangaroo Point home – around the river bend from his former pink mansion at Norman Park – and Mistress, a 46-metre Italian-built superyacht, moored on the Gold Coast. A former shipbuilder and businessman, Lloyd founded Shafston International College in Brisbane but resigned all positions in 2004 amid accusations of sexual impropriety involving students. No charges were laid. That same year, according to documents filed in court after his death, Lloyd began a de facto relationship with 28-year-old Zamira Adib Martinez. They never married. Loading The pair signed a relationship agreement in 2010, which set out their financial arrangement 'with the purpose of promoting harmony between Keith and Zamira during their relationship and in order to avoid litigation between them in the event that their relationship should break down'. The agreement noted that Adib Martinez was an accountant at Shafston International College, on a $60,000 salary, while Wright was self-employed and earning $566,332 per year. Under the agreement, Lloyd was to pay for all joint living expenses, plus spousal maintenance of $50,000.

Northampton Market 'not attracting shoppers' after £12m refit
Traders at a market which underwent a £12m refit say they are still not getting enough customers - six months after it Italian-built stalls were installed at Northampton Market, alongside a water feature and new paving and had to relocate to a car park on the edge of town for 20 months while the work was carried of them told the BBC that West Northamptonshire Council had not honoured its promise to "look after" the traders. Traders said they were full of hope for the first few weeks after the 900-year-old market Vanko, the owner of a customised gifts stall, said: "The beginning was really good, for the first two or three weeks, people came to have a look at what's been done at the market." He added that he really liked the refurbished market, but it was not yet bringing in new customers and needed "endless investment" to "make something special" so it stood out against other about the market's new water feature, he said "some people say it's useless, but it brings people, it looks nice, it's something refreshing". Hung Vo, standing at his fruit stall, said the first six months had "not been that good"."You look at the amounts of money they spent, there's nothing here," he said."When we first went up here, they [the council] said they would look after us, but they don't look after us at all."He said he had been through tough times at the relocated market during the refurbishment process: "I had to sell my house to support the business. I know they say 'free rent', but it's no point in free rent if you ain't got any customers."He said he had six people working for him at the old market - there were now two. Les Brannan, who runs LJB Rutherford's key-cutting stall, said the first couple of months after the reopening were "absolutely fantastic".Since then, trade was down on the figures for 2022, which was "disappointing", he said, adding: "It'll take time to get people to come back again, I think."He described the redeveloped market as "lovely, but the onus is on the council to keep it lovely."West Northamptonshire Council said it was unable to comment on issues relating to Northampton Market during the pre-election period.
