Angel Reese deeply touched by Karen Lacy mother's performance at late LSU star's funeral
WNBA star Angel Reese labeled Kyren Lacy's mother's rendition of 'I will always love you' at his funeral as 'beautiful'.
Lacy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after crashing his car
while attempting to evade local police in Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. This had come just weeks after he had been involved in a fatal crash in December, which he was arrested weeks later for after reportedly fleeing the scene at the time of the incident.
Lacy was just 24 years old when he passed, which hit home for a lot of
athletes heading to the NFL Draft
with many of his LSU teammates paying tribute. The incident also clearly touched
Reese
- who is set to
reunite with former LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith
in the
WNBA
- as she reacted to his mother's rendition of a Whitney Houston classic.

The video of Lacy's mother singing Houston's 'I will always love you' was circulated online with many fans commending her bravery and emotion. Reese, who played college basketball for LSU and delivered the program a national championship in 2023, shared the video along with the caption: 'This is so beautiful.'
Lacy had declared for the 2025
NFL
Draft on Dec. 19, two days after the crash he was involved in. On Jan. 12, he turned himself in to authorities, was jailed, and then released on $151,000 bail, according to police records.
Lacy was initially invited to the Scouting Combine, before being uninvited. But the wideout participated at LSU's pro day last month and was ranked as high as the No. 6 receiver prospect in the draft by ESPN.

After his passing, Lacy's agent, Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports released a statement insisting that at least one of his charges would've been dropped by a grand jury. He wrote: 'As stated by his attorney, there was a high probability that the felony charge of negligent homicide would have been declined by a Grand Jury this past Monday.
'Kyren was heartbroken by the tragic loss of Mr. Hall. He was willing to adhere to any civil matters, regardless of the Grand Jury's decision. That aside, the system failed us, and now we are mourning the loss of two lives.'
In the 2024 season where LSU went 8-4 before winning the
Texas
Bowl against Baylor, Lacy led the Tigers in receiving touchdowns (9) and was second on the team in catches (58) and receiving yards (866). Across his five-year collegiate career at the University of Louisiana and LSU, he caught 162 passes for 2,360 yards and tallied 26 touchdowns.
