YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – It is with both sadness and celebration of a well-lived life that we announce the passing of Richard H. Johnson, Sr., a beloved father, brother and friend, who departed from us on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Richard was born, to the union of John, Sr. and Erabell Wingo-Johnson on September 21, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee. Find obituaries from your high school Upon relocating to Youngstown, Ohio, Richard continued to live a full life, marked by his unwavering commitment to family, community and his work in property management and real estate. Richard was known for his friendly demeanor and having the uncanny ability to connect with others. He embraced life's challenges with courage and humor, always making those around him feel valued and appreciated. Richard loved sharing stories and often found joy in simple moments with family and friends. Family meant everything to Richard and he took immense pride in his role as a father. He is survived by his children, son, Richard Johnson, II; daughter, Tremaine 'Nicie' Jenkins and sons, William (Erika Johnson-Crues) H. Crues and Anthony Crues. He is also mourned by a wide circle of siblings, Levon (Jacqui) Hayes, Jimmy (Judy) Johnson, Carolyn Williams, Sarah Johnson-Silva and Muriel (Chris) Whitfield, who will forever cherish his memory. He is also deeply and fondly remembered by, Albertha Rogers-McMillan, his loving companion; along with a score of family and friends. Richard has now become reunited in eternity with his parents and brother, John Johnson, Jr. and assumes his seat at the ancestral table. As we remember Richard, we celebrate his life, his achievements and the love he shared with everyone around him. Let's come together to reflect on fond memories, lift each other up and ensure that his legacy of love and compassion continues to inspire us all. Join the Johnson Family in honoring Richard's legacy during the time of family visitation at 10:00 a.m., at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Avenue on Monday, June 2, 2025. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Lewis Macklin as the celebrant. After a committal ceremony, Richard's final resting place will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44505. At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Richard H. Johnson, Sr. elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J.E. Winner announced for ‘Give Small Business a Lift' campaign

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — WRTA is celebrating its fourth annual 'Give Small Business a Lift' campaign This year, twelve local small businesses were highlighted with their stories featured on buses and signs at Federal Station. This year's winner is J.E. Washington Funeral Services. They'll receive extra advertising, including a social media push and a TV campaign donated by WKBN. WRTA Executive Director Dean Harris says the campaign keeps growing, with hundreds of nominations coming in. 'We've kind of grown the event itself to really showcase a little better because we got a good feel for how to do it and it's just a very positive thing. And then our past winners are so thankful because they have been recognized,' Harris said. More than 200 Valley businesses have participated in the first three years of this event. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Frances E. Cunningham, a spirited force of nature, peacefully entered eternity on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at her Youngstown residence. She was born on January 22, 1938, the daughter of Louise Powell-Bandy and William Oliver, Sr., Frances navigated 87 vibrant years filled with laughter, love and an unwavering commitment to family and community. Find obituaries from your high school She was a proud South High School Warrior. Frances was never shy about speaking her mind—straight, no chasers—one of her many charms. As a dedicated nursing assistant at Heritage Manor, she cared for others with the same warmth she'd extended to her own family. Frances was the bride of the late Jonas Cunningham, Sr. and together they raised and nurtured not only their children, but many others. She was a true matriarch, embracing the village concept, opening her arms and heart to the children in her community as if they were her own. Frances found joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether it was running garage sales, where she would offer what you needed, not just what you wanted or enjoying Wild Turkey with friends as laughter filled the air. She was the life of every party, bringing people together and ensuring fun was an essential ingredient, especially during the days of the Bluebird gatherings with her children during their youth. Frances leaves behind a loving and rich legacy, cherished by her daughters, Jada Cunningham, Christine (Floyd Gaskins, Jr.) Gaskins, Renita (Clevant) Mitchell, Janet George and sons, Otis (Noelle) Huff, Kevin Cunningham and Jonas Cunningham, Jr.; along with her cherished daughter-in-law, Geraldine Cunningham; sister, Louise Williams; 13 grandchildren; a cadre of great-grandchildren and numerous family and friends. Now that her faith has become sight, Frances was reunited in eternity with her beloved parents; husband; son, Ronald Cunningham and siblings, Thomas Patterson, Edward Bandy, Vicky Bridgeforth, Diane Patrick, William Oliver, Jr., Wilbur Oliver, Jessie Oliver, Richard Oliver and Hazel Oliver; all who preceded her in death. Frances's spirit will continue to shine bright through those who loved her. In lieu of a traditional ceremony, it was Frances' request which was honored to have a private intimate gathering with her children and grandchildren. In her honor, let us remember her not just for the richness of her years but for the love she poured into everyone around her. Rest easy, Frances; your legacy lives on in the hearts of many.
