Blood donation drive sees strong turnout in honour of Warriors' Day

KUCHING (July 20): Nearly 100 individuals participated in a blood donation campaign held at the Kuching Indian Association's Hall at Rock Road here on Saturday, July 19. Organised in conjunction with the Warriors' Day 2025, the event was a joint initiative by the Sarawak Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) and Malaysian Armed Forces Indian Veteran Association (Perim). Among the notable guests of honour were Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and state Ministry of Natural Resources and Rural Development's Special Officer Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw. A significant number of the blood donors were veterans, who came forward to support the replenishment of the Sarawak General Hospital's blood bank. As a token of appreciation, each successful donor received a goodies bag containing a 5kg packet of rice, along with food items and beverages. Putrajaya night run raises money for warriors' fundraising campaign
The 'Larian Wira' fundraiser in Putrajaya, held at night for the first time, includes a 5km fun run. SOME 10,000 participants gathered at Dataran Wawasan in Putrajaya for Larian Wira 2025 – Night Run, organised by the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT). Themed Demi Wira Kami, the run was a tribute to the sacrifices of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel and aimed to foster patriotism among Malaysians. Now in its third edition, the event was held at night for the first time and featured three distance categories – 5km fun run, 10km and 21.1km half marathon. This year's 5km Fun Run included 22 special needs children from The Incredible Warrior Club. A key focus of the night was the 'Tabung Pahlawan' fundraising campaign led by the Veterans' Affairs Department (JHEV). Funds collected will go towards supporting MAF veterans who are critically ill, physically challenged or elderly and living alone. LTAT chairman Jen (Rtd) Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin said the run was a symbol of unity and gratitude towards armed forces personnel. 'These are our true national heroes – serving to ensure the country's peace and sovereignty remain intact,' he said. 'This year, LTAT is honoured to collaborate with JHEV in further amplifying awareness of Tabung Pahlawan,' he added. LTAT chief executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said the strong turnout reflected public support for the Armed Forces. 'This event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also strengthens the bond between the people and those who serve to protect us,' he said. He added that LTAT was committed to making the run a meaningful platform to reinforce ties between the public and the MAF while nurturing national pride. The evening also featured a zumba workout session by the Badan Kesenian Tentera Udara, a haka performance by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's reserve officer training unit and a drumline show by the Armed Forces. Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital offered rehabilitation services to the public while the MAF held a military exhibition.

Peduli Veteran Madani (PVM) programme honours 30 army veterans in Sepang and Sabak Bernam
SEKINCHAN, April 23 — A total of 30 Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans from Sepang and Sabak Bernam were honoured recently as part of the Peduli Veteran Madani (PVM) programme. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said that Sabak Bernam was the second location they visited this month, following Sepang on April 14. 'Among those visited were veterans with disabilities, chronic illnesses, those living in rural areas, as well as widows, with three of them being food-based entrepreneurs. 'In addition, nine veterans and widows were awarded the Pingat Jasa Malaysia, and one of the children of a veteran was presented with a laptop to assist with their studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). 'Furthermore, 250 boxes of Rahmah donations were given to the Sepang and Sabak Bernam District Veteran ATM Associations,' he said at a media briefing. Also present were Commander Mohd Kamal Irfan Hassan Sabri, Director of the Selangor and Federal Territories Branch of the Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV) ATM, and Lieutenant Colonel ® Azwadi Jamian, Chief Executive Officer of the ATM Veterans Foundation. Adly stated that the ministry would continue to empower army veterans through initiatives designed to strengthen the defence community's welfare ecosystem. This includes diversifying resources and increasing contributions to the Pahlawan Fund, which ends on July 31 every year. Meanwhile, 75-year-old veteran Staff Sergeant ® Hasan Nayan, who is battling stage three colon cancer, was very touched when Adly visited his home in Kampung Tengah, Pasir Panjang. Hasan, who retired in 1991, shared that he is still undergoing treatment, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL). 'After being diagnosed in 2014, I was paralysed then and my wife (Rumisah Arasat, 69) had to take care of all my needs. 'I am so grateful that the Ministry of Defence has not forgotten my service and contributions during my time in the army,' he said. A father of five, he said that he is now able to manage his daily needs including driving to the Sekinchan Health Clinic for regular treatment. He also expressed his gratitude to the Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV) ATM, which has consistently monitored his progress over time.
