Sports schools in need of help to be identified and prioritised, says Adam Adli

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Youth and Sports Ministry will identify and prioritise sports schools in the country that will be the first to receive assistance in terms of facilities and other needs. Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said discussions are being held with the Education Ministry to enhance sports schools, including improvements in expertise, coaching, and infrastructure. "For example, among Malaysia's major sports schools is the Bukit Jalil Sports School, which shares facilities with the National Sports Council as well as assets under the Malaysian Sports Corporation. "We aim to foster closer cooperation, especially with other sports schools. The ministry is ready to address any needs we can support at our level,' he told reporters after flagging off participants of the Asean Solidarity Cycling Tour 2025 at Dataran Batu Buruk here on Saturday (Aug 9). He said that although sports schools were under the jurisdiction of the Education Ministry, his ministry has never overlooked their athlete development programmes and continues to give them due attention. Adam Adli said the ministry has established a Sports Development Cabinet Committee (JKPS), which, among other functions, reviews the division of responsibilities and jurisdictions between the two ministries concerning sports schools. "The JKPS serves as a platform for more comprehensive discussions to identify areas where coordination can be improved. For now, we are consistently working closely with the Education Ministry,' he said. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently emphasised the government's commitment to enhancing facilities at sports schools nationwide to help raise the standard of excellence among future athletes. He said discussions had been held with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to ensure that all necessary assistance could be expedited.- Bernama

Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim stated that discussions with the Ministry of Education (MOE) are ongoing to improve sports schools, including expertise, coaching, and infrastructure. He cited Bukit Jalil Sports School as an example, sharing facilities with the National Sports Council and Malaysian Sports Corporation. KBS aims to strengthen cooperation with other sports schools to address their needs effectively. Adam Adli spoke after flagging off participants of the ASEAN Solidarity Cycling Tour 2025 at Dataran Batu Buruk. He assured that KBS remains committed to athlete development programmes despite sports schools being under MOE's jurisdiction. The ministry has formed a Sports Development Cabinet Committee (JKPS) to review responsibilities between KBS and MOE. Reasi (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 12 (ANI): A suspected foreign national was apprehended by a team Jammu and Kashmir's Katra police for illegally entering Indian territory without valid travel documents, officials said on Saturday. According to officials, on July 11, during a flying squad deployment, the police party from Police station Katra, under the leadership of Station House officer Kyatimaan Khajuria, was performing routine checking duties. 'At around 1400 hours, when the team reached Asia Chowk, they observed a suspicious individual attempting to conceal himself upon noticing the police presence. The alert police personnel immediately intercepted him,' the statement read. Police said that a Bangladeshi ID card was recovered from the individual identified as Md Fahim Ahmed during frisking. He however failed produce any valid travel documents, visa or passport to justify his presence in India. Preliminary investigation revealed that the individual had entered Indian territory through unauthorised means, violating immigration laws. The entire operation was conducted under the leadership of SHO Katra Police station, Inspector Khyatimaan Khajuria under the supervision of Sub Divisional Police Officer Katra Bhishm Dubey, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Superintendent of Police, Katra Vipin Chandra, JKPS. Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Paramvir reiterated that Reasi district police remains committed to ensuring the safety & security of the district and urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police unit. FIR No. 200/2025 U/S 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act, 1946 has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind his illegal entry and possible links. Earlier on July 9 in Delhi, Operations Cell of South West District police apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and a 40-day-old infant, for illegally residing in Delhi. According to officials, the group was traced to different locations, and fresh deportation proceedings have been initiated in coordination with the FRRO, Delhi, after all necessary legal formalities have been completed.
