Ritlal admitted to JLNMCH after his health deteriorates
Bhagalpur: Ritlal Yadav, RJD MLA from Danapur assembly constituency, was admitted to prisoners' ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) at Mayaganj in Bhagalpur, after his health deteriorated on Monday evening following a hunger strike inside the jail. Ritlal was shifted to special central jail at Bhagalpur from Beur jail in Patna. Ritlal had allegedly levelled allegations about being harassed and ill-treated inside the jail, which the officials denied. Following this, he went on a hunger strike on Monday morning. The doctors at the jail examined Ritlal, thereafter he was shifted to the JLNMCH on Monday evening. Sources said his blood sugar level had dropped whereas his blood pressure was normal. Hospital sources said that Ritlal also complained about prostate problem, which are being examined by the doctors. HoD of the medicine department at JLNMCH, Dr Rajkamal Choudhary, said Ritlal was admitted to the JLNMCH when his condition deteriorated due to fasting. He said Ritlal's blood sugar level had fallen while his blood pressure was normal. He said Ritlal's condition has improved and he has started taking food. The RJD MLA and others are accused in a case under Sections 308(5), 111(2), 111(3) 339 and 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He surrendered before the Danapur civil court on April 17, sources said. Despite several attempts, no official could be contacted for comments on the issue. Bhagalpur ramps up HPV vaccination drive to protect girls
Bhagalpur: District administration has directed the health department to ensure that interested girl students between the age group of 9 and 14 years are administered free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination at the sadar hospital and JLNMCH on working days from 9.00am to 4.00pm. This initiative will safeguard the girls from cervical cancer. During a review meeting held on Tuesday, DM Nawal Kishor Choudhary issued the directives. The special HPV vaccination drive, an important programme under 'Mukhyamantri Balika Cancer Pratirakshan Yojana' (MBCPY), was launched in the district recently. The DM said the vaccine is safe and it is a preventive measure for the girls from developing cervical cancer later in their lives. He urged the family members of the girls to accomplish the objective of the vaccination drive. Aadhaar card and school identity card, for the verification of the age of the schoolgirls, are mandatory for vaccination, said the DM. He also asked the health officials to submit the data of vaccinations done so far. Nearly 400 schoolgirls have already been given the HPV vaccines at the OPD of sadar hospital and JLNMCH so far, said district immunisation officer (DIO), Dr Dhananjay Kumar. He said cervical cancer accounts for 17% deaths because of malignancy among adult women. "Our teams are creating awareness among the schoolgirls while visiting the schools and interacting with them, teachers and guardians," said the DIO. District education officer (DEO), Rajkumar Sharma, said directives to the principals and in charges of the high schools and middle schools have been given to make available the data of the schoolgirls in the age group of 09-14 at their respective schools so that the free HPV vaccines are administered to them. Three die in separate road accidents in Khagaria
Khagaria: Three people, including a couple, died in separate road accidents in Khagaria district on Sunday morning. Police said a couple died on the spot when a sand-laden truck rammed into a house between Sonbarsa Ghat and BP Mandal Setu, popularly known as Dumri bridge, over the Bagmati river on NH-107 under Chautham police station area of the district. SHO, Chautham police station, Ajit Kumar, said the deceased were identified as Ramavtar Muni (51), a daily wage worker and his wife Sarojini (41), residents of Sonbarsa village under the same police station. The driver, taking advantage of the darkness, managed to escape from the accident spot. Police said the bodies were sent to the sadar hospital for postmortem. The deceased left behind six minor children, including two daughters and four sons. SHO, Bharatkhand police outpost, Raushan Kumar, said the deceased was identified as Sudarshan Kumar (19), son of Mritunjay Chowdhary, a native of Mathurapur village under the same police station. Amit Kumar, the pillion rider who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to Bhagalpur-based JLNMCH, police said.
