New Visa-Free Travel Deal Between UAE And Pakistan Goes Live
DUBAI, July 27: The United Arab Emirates and Pakistan have officially activated a visa waiver for holders of diplomatic and official passports, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Dar revealed that during a recent meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was informed that the visa waiver came into effect on July 25, 2025. The agreement was signed in the final week of July during the 12th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Abu Dhabi. Dar said: 'During my meeting in Abu Dhabi on June 24, 2025, with my brother Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we agreed on mutual visa waivers for diplomatic and official passports between our two brotherly countries. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement this arrangement, effective 30 days after signing.' Confirming the activation of the waiver, Dar added: 'I have been informed by UAE authorities that the visa waiver for Pakistani diplomatic and official passports is now operational at all UAE airports, effective July 25, 2025.' He further confirmed that reciprocal arrangements have been put in place, allowing UAE nationals holding diplomatic and official passports to enter Pakistan without a visa. The UAE and Pakistan share strong diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties, with over 1.7 million Pakistanis living and working in the UAE. Hundreds of thousands of Pakistani tourists also visit the Gulf nation annually. Since taking office, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made several visits to the UAE, reinforcing the close relationship between the two countries. It is important to note that this visa waiver applies exclusively to diplomatic and official passport holders and does not extend to ordinary passport holders.

JMC brand returning to South Africa with two new bakkie products
The JMC Grand Avenue will serve as the brand's flagship bakkie. Image: Supplied Just when you thought you might get through an entire week without hearing about another Chinese brand launching in South Africa, comes news that JMC is returning to our shores. But not only is the brand familiar to South Africans; its importer Salvador Caetano has already established itself through its retailing of the GAC brand since its launch in 2024. The collaboration between Salvador Caetano and the Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) is intended to revitalize the Chinese vehicle brand in South Africa, ensuring availability of parts, local service support and a range of vehicles tailored to the needs of local businesses. The current-generation JMC Vigus will be launched in 2025. Image: Supplied The brand reintroduction will kick off in this year with the release of the current-generation Vigus bakkie, but it will be followed in early 2026 with the introduction of a new-generation Vigus, available in single cab and double cab guises. This could be the new-generation JMC Vigus. Image: Supplied Also on the cards for local introduction is the more upmarket Grand Avenue double cab bakkie. Overseas the Grand Avenue is available with 2.3-litre turbodiesel and turbopetrol engines, which are based on Ford designs. The diesel unit produces 130kW while the petrol is good for 180kW, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox being available on both. For the record, JMC is Ford's manufacturing partner in China, and it produces the Ford Territory SUV that's sold in South Africa. For the commercial market, Salvador Caetano will also offer the JMC Carrying Plus range of trucks in South Africa, aimed at industries such as construction and logistics. JMC Carryin Plus Image: Supplied 'Partnering with JMC aligns perfectly with our vision of bringing trusted, high-performance mobility solutions to the South African market,' Leslie Ramsoomar, Managing Director at Salvador Caetano SA. 'We're proud to represent a brand that shares our commitment to reliability, innovation, and customer-focused service, delivering value to both lifestyle and commercial vehicle customers across the country.' More information on the local range, specifications and pricing will be released in due course. IOL Motoring

Salvador Caetano Auto South Africa announces return of JMC
As before, the Chinese commercial vehicle brand will launch with two bakkies, headlined by the returning Vigus. Along with the returning Vigus, the Grand Avenue will top JMC product range. Image: JMC Last present in South Africa almost a decade ago outside the truck segment, Chinese commercial vehicle giant, Jiangling Motors Corporation, better known by its abbreviation JMC, has announced its return to the local market via importer, Salvador Caetano Auto South Africa. Two models coming The current distributor of GAC Motor products, and soon of the marque's all-electric Aion division, the Portuguese conglomerate will kick-off JMC's return this year with the arrival of the revived Vigus bakkie, followed by the more upmarket Grand Avenue in 2026. Known for its partnership with Isuzu and since the early 1990s with Ford, who sells the JMC-made Equator Sport locally as the Territory, the pair of products will be distributed directly Salvador Caetano, but seemingly through separate dealership instead of existing GAC showrooms. ALSO READ: Vigus bakkie offers more bang for buck 'Partnering with JMC aligns perfectly with our vision of bringing trusted, high-performance mobility solutions to the South African market,' Salvador Caetano Auto South Africa Managing Director, Leslie Ramsoomar, said in a statement. 'We're proud to represent a brand that shares our commitment to reliability, innovation, and customer-focused service, delivering value to both lifestyle and commercial vehicle customers across the country'. What to expect? Vigus Arriving first, initially as a double cab with a single cab premiering next year, the Vigus once again uses the Chinese-market Yuhu as a base, but this time the Yuhu 9 that debuted in 2019 as a facelift version of the still in-production Yuhu 7 that went on-sale two years before. Vigus will lead JMC's return to South Africa. Image: JMC Its restyling having resulted in an appearance similar to the Ford EcoSport, the Yuhu 9 measures 5 375 mm long, 1 760 mm tall and 1 905 mm wide, with its wheelbase stretching 3 085 mm. Known as the Vigus Pro in Malaysia where sales started four years ago, the Yuhu 9, in China, derives motivation from Ford's 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine used in the domestic market Mondeo and Taurus. Based on the Yuhu 9, and called the Pro in Malaysia, the Vigus will likely offer petrol and diesel engines in South Africa. Image: In this application, it produces 153kW/325Nm directed to the rear or all four wheels through the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox. Outside its home market, then Yuhu 9 also comes powered by the Blue Oval's 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine shared with the Yuhu 7, but with its origins from the older Puma unit rather than the current Panther mill. Interior resembles that of the two generations ago Opel Astra. Image: Reportedly related to the 2.2-litre found in the previous T6 Ranger and Everest, in the Yuhu 9/Vigus Pro, it develops 105kW/350Nm and is mated to the same eight-speed 'box, or as standard, a six-speed manual. Grand Avenue Set to arrive next year, the Vigus will be backed-up by a much newer model sold under the Dadao brand in China. Launched at the Beijing International Auto Show two years ago, with its name meaning avenue in Mandarin, the Dadao range comprises a single model, which will be called JMC Grand Avenue in South Africa. Styled to resemble, ironically, the Chevrolet Silverado from viewed from the front and the GWM P300 as well as an older Isuzu KB at the rear, the Grand Avenue comes in three variants, a workhorse, slightly wider upscale premium model, and a dedicated off-road version along the lines of the Ford Ranger Raptor. Based on Chinese reports, a choice of two engines are provided; Ford's 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol developing 190kW/450Nm, and an enlarged 2.3-litre version of the 2.2-litre Puma turbodiesel rated at 130kW/450Nm. Transmissions are the same choice as the Vigus, namely a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. Expect more details related to price and spec to be announced in due course. Beachside hotel, conference centre and apartments part of Tasmanian developer's latest plans
A Tasmanian developer has laid out his plans for a suite of new projects across the state, including a beachside hotel, apartment buildings, a conference centre and even a childcare centre. Errol Stewart, the businessman behind the Stewart Group and car dealership JMC, launched the plans — totalling more than $100 million in potential investment — in Launceston this week. But he foreshadowed the possibility of "significant delays" in the planning stages and said he would not pursue plans local communities oppose. The proposals include a $35 million hotel and apartment complex on the foreshore at Camdale, near Burnie, and residential apartment buildings in Hobart and Launceston, as well as a convention centre at Invermay in Launceston. Mr Stewart said the Burnie project was the "major" announcement of the suite of proposals. He said his company bought 3 hectares of coastal land from the Burnie City Council in 2024, where he intends to build the Strait Hotel. The land is directly across the Bass Highway from an existing JMC car dealership, which he said would also soon undergo a $3 million redevelopment. But, Mr Stewart said, the company was seeking feedback and engagement from the community before pressing ahead with the plans. "We'll be saying to the community, 'Do you think this is a good thing, do you really support it?'," he said. "And if the answer was a strong 'no', we'd have to revise it. Concerns are already being raised about the Strait Hotel, which would be built on a site which is known little penguin habitat. Penguin ecologist Perviz Marker said the Camdale penguin colony was a "good news story" as its population had grown by five times in the past 30 years. "I think this is a fantastic opportunity to leave it as a restored, rehabilitated site." Mr Stewart said he intended to leave half the site dedicated to the penguin colony, but Dr Marker said that would not be suitable as it was "still a loss of 50 per cent of the penguin habitat". The site is currently zoned for environmental management, and Mr Stewart said the company would be requesting a planning scheme amendment if the project received positive community feedback. In a post on Facebook, Burnie mayor Teeny Brumby said Mr Stewart's plans were "exciting". "Of course, there's still a body of work to be done including permits, rezoning, council applications, and environmental considerations," she said. "But the concept plans released yesterday offer a glimpse into something quite special for our city." Launceston Chamber of Commerce chief executive Alina Bain said Mr Stewart's plans outlined a "level of confidence in Tasmania and his optimism for the future". She said the proposal for a conference centre was exciting, as it would generate visitor numbers to the city, something particularly needed during the winter. Enthusiasm for a new conference centre in the city has been growing in recent years, and a demand study prepared for tourism body Visit Northern Tasmania earlier this year noted a shortage of accommodation and facilities in Launceston. Mr Stewart said his company would commit $10 million to such a conference centre, but estimated it would be a $25 million facility that would need government support. Ms Bain said it was great to see Mr Stewart "stepping up". "But we absolutely need to see all three levels of government to come together to develop this project," she said. "It would be a game-changer for the city, and we know that the figures support this." She said other facilities such as the Launceston airport would need to be upgraded, and that more hotel offerings in the city would also need to be developed. Mr Stewart's suite of plans includes residential apartment buildings across the state, including in Launceston and Burnie, but he believes demand is greatest in Hobart. There his plan is for the City Scape Towers — two five-storey apartment buildings on Campbell Street costed at $20 million. He said he expected demand would "ripple" throughout the state if the AFL stadium at Macquarie Point was realised. "We'll do our Hobart project irrespective of the outcome of the stadium, for sure, providing we can get a permit," Mr Stewart said. He said a possible development boom could be likened to the tourist lure Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) had proved to be. "When MONA got going, everybody came down and said, 'We want to go to MONA,'" he said. "Then they jumped in their car, and they drove north and south and all over the place. And it was just [a] MONA effect that just rippled through the island. "And that'll be exactly the same … when and if we get the stadium up." But Mr Stewart said he was concerned about how the state's current "planning quagmire" may present challenges to his ambitions. He said he was hopeful that whichever party forms government next would cut red tape to allow for greater "development potential".
