Mysuru kings were pioneers of social progress, says UoM VC
Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) vice-chancellor NK Lokanath on Wednesday recalled the contributions of the maharajas for the development of the erstwhile Mysuru state. Mysuru kings were pioneers of social progress, he stated. He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day national seminar on the cultural contributions of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar at JSS College for Women. He said that Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar gave top priority to education. He also highlighted that the maharaja had a great interest in literature and the arts and composed 58 works in Kannada and Sanskrit. The VC said that the Mysuru rulers were well-educated and role models for present-day politicians. UoM's Oriental Research Institute (ORI) director DP Madhusudanacharya also hailed the works of the Mysuru maharajas as memorable. Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar gave a thrust for public welfare and was a generous king. He also appreciated the development works done by the maharaja not only in Karnataka but also in other states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. Presiding over the inaugural function, JSS Mahavidyapeetha director KL Revannaswamy said that the Mysuru kings have done exemplary work not only in Karnataka but in other parts of the country. The inaugural function was followed by three technical sessions. Various experts presented their works—retired tahsildar Ranganatha on the social welfare works of the maharaja, ORI's retired deputy director TV Satyanarayana on the literary works of the maharaja, and HV Nagaraja Rao on the maharaja's literary and religious works. Principal Rechanna and department head of history AG Dharmesha were present.

Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar's cultural contributions lauded
University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor N.K. Lokanath on Wednesday highlighted the immense cultural contributions of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, describing him as a multifaceted scholar and patron of the arts. He was speaking at the inauguration of a seminar on 'The Cultural Contributions of Krishnaraja Wadiyar III', held at JSS College for Women, here. Prof. Lokanath noted that Mummadi Wadiyar was widely celebrated for his intellectual prowess and bore several honorific titles, including 'Kavijana Kamadhenu' and 'Kannadada Bhoja.' He added that the erstwhile ruler of Mysuru had deep knowledge in diverse fields such as theatre, visual arts, dance, painting, and wrestling. 'Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was not only a connoisseur of the arts but also a generous patron who encouraged and supported artists from across the country,' the Vice-Chancellor said. A prolific writer, Mummadi Wadiyar authored around 58 books in both Kannada and Sanskrit. His mastery in painting is evident in his work 'Sri Tattva Nidhi,' a richly illustrated text that reflects his artistic vision, he said. Several of his literary and artistic works have been published by the Oriental Research Institute (ORI), a constituent of the University of Mysore. Efforts are also underway to bring more of his unpublished works to light, the V-C said. The keynote address was delivered by D.P. Madhusudhanacharya, director of ORI. B. Niranjana Murthy, assistant director of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha College Education Division, along with other dignitaries, was also present on the occasion.

Pampa's literary works hailed
Mysuru: Kannada writer Narahalli Balasubramany on Monday described how literary and poetic works penned by Adikavi Pampa contributed significantly to the growth of Kannada. He spoke after inaugurating a workshop on the review of the poetic works of Adikavi Pampa, organised jointly by Karnataka State Open University and JSS College for Women, in the city. He said Adikavi Pampa reflected the humanity and richness of Kannada literature in his works. He showcased the mythological characters of Mahabharatha, one of the great epics, in his own way, which set the base for the modern development of Karnataka State. KSOU vice-chancellor Sharanappa Halase also highlighted the contributions of Adikavi Pampa for his efforts to spread universal brotherhood. District unit president of Sharana Sahitya Parishat M G Sadanandaiah, head of the department of Kannada studies, Mahajana College, Thimmegowda, Morabada Mallikarjuna, and G B Harish were present.
