Brie Larson might be a monstrous mom in the new J.J. Abrams-produced movie
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. While it has not been verified if she will re-enter the atmosphere of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Avengers: Doomsday as Carol Danvers, Deadline has confirmed that Brie Larson might be turning monstrous in a new J.J. Abrams-produced creature feature, Fail-Safe. The new project follows a young boy who slowly starts to unravel family secrets involving his mother and the desperate efforts made to keep her true nature away from the rest of the world. JT Mollner, who made an impressive turn with Strange Darling, will direct the film, while Brian Duffield, who penned Love and Monsters and No One Will Save You, will handle script duties. The tale itself is based on a short story written by Philip Fracassi. Abrams told Deadline, 'With Fail-Safe, Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script. It's a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying. To have JT Mollner in the director's chair — his Strange Darling blew me away — is a dream come true." Of course, Larson is no stranger to creature features, having battled an array of aliens in the MCU and getting a close encounter with King Kong in 2017's Kong: Skull Island, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. "Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets up Fail-Safe to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.' The film is currently doing the rounds at Cannes with no confirmed dates in line for production. For now, Larson's schedule looks pretty clear, and there's no confirmation if she'll be appearing alongside other Avengers: Doomsday, which Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, promises has more cast names yet to be announced. Brie Larson Set to Star in J.J. Abrams-Produced 'Wild Ride' Creature Horror FAIL-SAFE — GeekTyrant
Brie Larson ( Captain Marvel ) has officially signed on to star in Fail-Safe , a new creature horror film with J.J. Abrams producing and filmmaker JT Mollner ( Strange Darling ) set to direct. Strange Darling was a great freakin' film, so I'm excited to see what Mollner ends up doing with this project. Fail-Safe is described as 'a modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother's true nature.' Larson takes on the role of the mother, and according to producer Drew Simon is excited that she's on board. He said: 'I'm beyond excited to see Brie take on this role – it's frightening, emotionally charged, and so different from anything she's done before. The depth and intensity this character demands is immense, and I know Brie's going to bring something unforgettable to the screen.' The script was written by Brian Duffield, who knows his way around high-concept horror, and his recent film No One Will Save You had everyone talking, and he's currently directing Whalefall for 20th Century and Imagine. Abrams said in a statement: 'With Fail-Safe , Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script. It's a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying. 'To have JT Mollner in the director's chair — his Strange Darling blew me away — is a dream come true. Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets up Fail-Safe to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.' Fail-Safe is based on a short story by Philip Fracassi, known for his eerie, emotionally rich horror fiction. This is going to be a fun project for Larson to be a part of and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Fail-Safe may end up to be a great genre project. Source: Deadline

Brie Larson and J.J. Abrams Are Teaming Up for a Creature Feature
How's this for a mega team-up? Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, will star in a new, horror movie produced by J.J. Abrams, written by Brian Duffield and directed by J.T. Mollner. It's called Fail-Safe and it's based on a short story by Philip Fracassi about a young boy whose father spends a large amount of time making sure his mother doesn't kill everyone, because she turns into a monster. 'With Fail-Safe, Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script. It's a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying,' Abrams said in a statement given to Deadline. 'To have J.T. Mollner in the director's chair — his Strange Darling blew me away — is a dream come true. Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets up Fail-Safe to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.' The film is currently being shopped on the market at the Cannes Film Festival, so expect some distributor to pick it up and help it get made, especially with that level of talent behind it. Larson and Abrams kind of speak for themselves. One is the Oscar-winning darling who turned an incredible, low-key career starring in incredible movies like Short Term 12 and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World into a superheroic one, with her role as Captain Marvel and more. Abrams is the only person to ever direct a Star Trek and a Star Wars movie and has helped create some of the most beloved TV shows of a generation, like Lost, Alias and Felicity. Those two together are awesome on their own but really it's Mollner and Duffield that bring this together. Mollner has only directed two features but his most recent one, Strange Darling, was a genre festival darling, gaining praise and shock at each and every screening that took place. Duffield recently wrote and directed No One Will Save You, the stellar sci-fi starring Kaitlyn Dever, and previously directed the hilarious and over the top, Spontaneous. They are some of our best talents in the genre space and, to have them under the wing of J.J. Abrams, with Larson at the heart of this very intriguing movie, is awesome. You can read 'Fail-Safe' by Philip Fracassi, in full, at this link. It's a short story so expect the movie to be slightly expanded but, you'll get the idea. This could be awesome.
