Horse racing tips: ‘Strong pace to suit' – Templegate's 15-2 NAP is in spectacular form
TEMPLEGATE takes on Monday's racing looking to start the week with a bang. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. CHIEF MANKATO (7.10 Windsor, nap) Jack Channon's sprinter has been in great nick, winning nicely at Chepstow two starts ago before an unlucky third behind a couple of today's rivals over C&D last time. He was checked in his run before flashing home late for third. He is now 4lb better off with the winner, Badri, and he should get a strong pace to aim at. JOHN L SULLIVAN (3.00 Ayr, nb) Caught the eye when third behind the re-opposing Jannas Journey over a mile at this track last time. He travelled like the winner but ran out of gas late. He can turn the tables over this shorter trip. SEA THE WONDER (5.22 Kempton, treble) Ran disappointingly at Newbury but it was in a much stronger race than this. She won well on her debut at Chelmsford and will be happier back on the all-weather. DWINDLING FUNDS (4.35 Ayr) Looks good for the Lucky 15. He has been on a roll, winning over C&D and at Hamilton, and he still looks ahead of his mark. Horse racing tips: Wednesday, July 9
Ron Wood's selections NAP: Medinilla (3.50, Catterick) 1pt win @ 3/1 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Other: Waiting For Love (4.50, Catterick) 1pt win @ 12/1 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a William Hill account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. 3.50, Catterick – Class 5 handicap (7f) MEDINILLA was a beaten favourite at Thirsk last time, but she was taken out of her comfort zone in trying to hold her position against the rail in that 6f contest, and she looks ready for this step up in trip. Jack Channon's charge had won a couple of 6f races before that, being strong at the finish both times. Given she has speed but now looks in need of the extra distance, this sharp test at 7f should suit her. She ought to travel comfortably from a handy draw in stall two and under a good jockey in Callum Rodriguez. 4.50, Catterick – Class 5 fillies' handicap (7f) This is a competitive race but it could be worth chancing WAITING FOR LOVE. The selection is dropping in trip and this will be her first turf start, but she is lightly raced and has already shown fair ability – and this test looks like suiting her. James Tate's representative has plenty of speed and most recently did not see out a mile at Chelmsford in a Class 4 handicap. That was her first outing for six months, so she should be better for it. The four-year-old is now down in class and switching to fillies-only company. Waiting For Love has a handy draw in gate four and her dam Furqaan won on fast turf. Conditions in North Yorkshire should be on the quick side, so there is enough to like. NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. Many horse racing tipsters pick out a 'NAP of the day', which is their favoured selection from all the races across the different meetings. The term NAP derives from the French card game Napoleon. When players of this game thought they had a particularly strong hand that they would win with, they would shout 'Napoleon'. What is an each-way bet? An each-way bet is a popular type of wager, particularly with horse racing fans. It is essentially two bets, both of which have the same size stake. An each-way bet features one bet on the selection to win and the other bet on the selection to place. So a £10 each-way bet will cost you a total of £20. There will be one £10 bet on the selection to win and another £10 on the selection to place. It's a popular bet because it offers punters the chance of a return, even if the horse in question fails to win. Bookmakers will pay out at a stated percentage of the odds for a place finish, for example one-fifth of the starting price (SP) for finishing in the first three. The more runners there are in a horse race, the more places will be on offer. In races that feature lots of runners, the horses will be available at bigger odds, making an each-way bet a wise choice. Horse racing tips: ‘He looks a stunning handicap blot for new trainer' – Templegate's Thursday NAP
TEMPLEGATE takes on Thursday's action confident of building the bank for a decent weekend of action. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. BOILING POINT (3.45 Newcastle, nap) The unexposed four-year-old was a smart performer for Roger Varian last season, winning a Listed contest at Newmarket before a solid fourth over a mile in a red-hot Group 3 at Goodwood in August. He was competing with the likes of Lead Artist and Dancing Gemini in that lofty contest and should be able to overcome a mark of 107 on his handicap debut for his new trainer Karl Burke. SAHANA (4.45 Newmarket, nb) Was a revelation when making a winning handicap debut at Yarmouth two weeks ago. She travelled strongly and produced a sharp turn of foot to win smoothly. A 5lb rise is unlikely to stop her and she's just the type to run up a sequence of wins in the next month or so. POMME POMME (8.15 Hamilton, treble) Can land a superb Channon's improving filly started life off in handicaps off a mark of 47 but, after five wins, she is now racing off 78. She will be short odds but is clearly thriving and should have too much for her modest rivals. COGITATE (4.10 Newmarket, Lucky 15) It was hard not to be impressed with his win at Salisbury last month and he should take some stopping here. This is the Star tip for Tuesday racecard at Brighton
William Haggas' Kinswoman can come good in the Download The Star Sports App Maiden Stakes over six furlongs on a Tuesday card at Brighton. The Cheveley Park-owned and bred filly is the Press Association pick. Advertisement She had been placed in all four runs to date, snipping down the losing margin the last twice when gaining more experience. Over-enthusiasm has perhaps hampered her, but there is clear ability in the bloodline as she is a half-sister to six winners – including Group horses Audience and Esquire. Jack Channon has his string in great form and Banksman can notch complete his hat-trick in the Star Sports Handicap. Beaten a short head over this course and distance at the start of the month, he has since rattled up wins at Yarmouth and Lingfield. He has to carry a 6lb penalty for the latter of those and while that will make his life tricky in a tight four-runner affair, in low-grade racing it usually pays to side with those runners in form. Advertisement Elsewhere, Stardinia can get off the mark at the third time of asking in the Compton Beauchamp Fillies' Restricted Novice Stakes at Newbury. She is by first-season sire Starman – who is making a great name for himself in his second career – and has already shown form worthy of winning a race such as this. On her debut in what look an ordinary run of the mill affair at Leicester she had the misfortune of bumping into Clive Cox's Coppull. That form has subsequently been well franked, as despite being an unconsidered 66-1 chance in the Coventry Stakes last week Coppull finished a fine third. Stardinia has run at Ascot since in quite a valuable affair and while she was only fifth, the form is pretty solid. Advertisement In the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes it is Eve Johnson Houghton's Mystic Moment who catches the eye. The Time Test filly has run twice to date and been the runner-up both times, coming home a length and three quarters behind the winner on her debut at Kempton in May. Her next run was a switch to turf at Goodwood earlier in June, where she progressed to go down by just a neck over the same six-furlong trip. She now steps up in trip and considering her dam stayed a mile and a half, she should have no concerns with seeing out an extra furlong at Newbury.

Urban Lion sets up Royal Hunt Cup tilt with Sandown success
Jack Channon's four-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to 2025, winning on the all-weather at Chelmsford before going down narrowly at Newbury in the valuable Spring Cup. That agonising loss brought the Royal meeting on the agenda, but needing to go up in the weights to guarantee his place in the Royal Hunt Cup field, the West Ilsley handler felt obliged to run his improving gelding in the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At Handicap in hope of securing a penalty. It certainly wasn't pretty. Urban Lion toughs it out in the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At Handicap 🥇#ITVRacing | @Sandownpark | @ChannonRacing — ITV Racing (@itvracing) June 14, 2025 Sent off 9-4 in the hands of Edward Greatrex, Urban Lion was always in touch with the leaders and after moving stylishly into contention, kept on nicely for a two-length victory that saw him cut to 25-1 from 40s for next week's Royal Hunt Cup by Paddy Power. 'He did that really smooth and Eddie said he did it really well and when he hit the front he pricked his ears and dossed around so there was plenty left,' said Channon. 'It was a very pleasing performance to see but also quite frustrating that it wasn't at Ascot off that mark. We'll have the penalty now and we can go to Ascot off the back of this. 'He's been trained for the Hunt Cup since going close in the Spring Cup at Newbury and his preparation for next week has been flawless. 'However, it became apparent earlier in the week he wasn't going to get in so he had to go and win today and then hope he comes out of it well enough and is also well-handicapped enough to go and perform. 'This is a very nice horse that has taken a lot of patience from his owners and also everyone at home but he's paying it back in bundles now and I think his trajectory is only going to go up and up.' Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy enjoyed a double when 6-4 favourite Gladius won the opening Download The BetMGM App Handicap before Dance In The Storm (5-2 joint-favourite) bounced back to form impressively in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Handicap.
