Miami Dolphins CB Jack Jones new chance in NFL: Blame me for my past troubles
MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones isn't claiming his troubles are just a misunderstanding. He's not blaming anyone else. He understands why so many NFL teams passed on him, and how he went from being a starter last year to nearly being out of football this year. 'Absolutely, it's understandable,' Jones said. Jones' latest – and possibly final – chance came last week when the Dolphins, hit with injuries in the secondary, called a player with a list of off-field problems, including a 2023 arrest after two loaded firearms were found in his carry-on at Boston's Logan Airport. Charges were eventually dropped. ANOTHER NEW GUY: Minkah Fitzpatrick: I'm a lot more emotionally mature now Jones, 27, said his past transgressions led to a period of self-reflection. 'When you've got life looking at you, rather if you're going to go down the left road or the right road, you've got to do some self-evaluating,' he said. Jones said he leaned on past coaches, his agent and players such as T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Ryan Clark. 'I didn't want to be stubborn and be like, 'I'm gonna figure it out on my own,' ' Jones said. MORE SECONDARY MAKEOVER: Willie Gay Jr.: I checked out last year in New Orleans Jones began as a fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2022 out of USC. Coincidentally, the pick originally was owned by the Dolphins but was included in multiple deals best known for allowing Tyreek Hill to come to Miami. Jones appeared in 18 games for the Patriots, starting two, before ending up with the Las Vegas Raiders for the past two seasons. Last year, he started 16 games, finishing with three interceptions and 69 tackles. In 2018, Jones was arrested for allegedly trying to break into a Panda Express (charges were reduced). USC ruled him academically ineligible for fighting in practice. He also served time on the Patriots' suspended list, reportedly stemming from a disagreement with the team over rehabilitating an injury. Most recently, the Raiders chose not to re-sign him. When late July arrived and he was still without a team, it was time to worry. 'It's definitely understandable on my part, though,' he said. 'I'm not going to be a guy to be like, 'Why didn't you (sign me)' when I understand why. I'm learning.' LAST LINE OF DEFENSE: Dolphins' secondary gets makeover, remains team's biggest concern entering camp On one hand, Jones has started half of the 42 career games he has played and returned four interceptions for touchdowns. On the other, he was charged with allowing eight TD passes last season, according to Pro Football Reference. 'I feel like with the talent I got, man, I shouldn't be on three teams in four years,' he said. 'It just lit a spark under me to do right – on and off the field.' Miami Dolphins sign ex-Raiders cornerback Jack Jones
The Miami Dolphins, in need of help in the secondary, signed cornerback Jack Jones, a starter for the Las Vegas Raiders last season. Jones, 27, was the New England Patriots' fourth-round pick out of Long Beach Tech in 2022. For his career with the Patriots and Raiders, he has appeared in 42 games, starting 21, and has seven interceptions, with a knack for making quarterbacks pay for those mistakes. He has returned four of those seven INTs for touchdowns. Jones is 5-feet-11 and 175 pounds. He was graded as the 102nd-best corner in the league last season by Pro Football Focus. Pro Football Reference charged him with conceding eight touchdowns last season after allowing two in his career to that point. Jones was arrested at Boston's Logan Airport in 2023 after two loaded firearms were found in his carry-on. Charges were eventually dropped. In other news, the Dolphins waived cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr. This article originally appeared on Palm Beach Post: Miami Dolphins sign former Raiders starting CB Jack Jones

Miami Dolphins add another quality veteran cornerback, who could start
MIAMI GARDENS ― The Miami Dolphins are adding veteran slot cornerback Mike Hilton, according to veteran sports agent Drew Rosenhaus. Hilton, 31, has played four seasons with the Steelers and four with the Bengals. Hilton, 5-foot-9, can back up Kader Kohou, who was injured in the Dolphins' fourth training camp practice of 2025. And he can do more. Kohou limped off with a possible lower-body injury on Day 4. Kohou's initial backup, Artie Burns, went down with a torn ACL in Miami's first training camp practice. The Dolphins also added another cornerback capable of playing inside, Jack Jones, earlier in the day. And earlier this week, the Dolphins added veteran cornerback Cornell Armstrong. Miami Dolphins add Mike Hilton and Jack Jones on same day Hilton has played 123 NFL games, including 56 starts, with 13 interceptions. Hilton has a career passer rating against of 82.0, which is solid. Hilton's career Pro Football Focus grades with Cincinnati are good: 75.9, 77.4, 67.1, 70.2. Hilton has more than 4,700 career slot snaps. His addition gives the Dolphins more depth and versatility in the secondary. For example, Hilton could play inside if and when Kohou is outside. Hilton is skilled in coverage and is a solid blitzer and willing tackler. Dolphins agree to terms with Mike Hilton
The Dolphins doubled up on experienced additions to their cornerback corps on Saturday. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said that his client Mike Hilton has agreed to terms with the team. That news came after the Dolphins confirmed that they have signed former Patriots and Raiders corner Jack Jones. Hilton spent the last four seasons with the Bengals and his first four seasons with the Steelers. He had 73 tackles and an interception last season and has 520 tackles, 13 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries for his career. The Dolphins came into camp with questions at corner after trading Jalen Ramsey. They lost Artie Burns to a torn ACL in their first training camp practice and Kader Kohou left Saturday's session after suffering an apparent leg injury, but they have not given any update on his condition.
