Charles Bassey wants to play for the Boston Celtics
Former San Antonio Spurs big man Charles Bassey wants to play for the Boston Celtics. But is the interest mutual, or is the lack of a camp invite for the Sin City Celtics center standout more a product of the need for cap management on a Boston roster right up against the edge of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)'s second apron? The Celtics could of course sign Bassey right now with their roster spot vacated by the move that got them under the second apron -- waiving 2025 NBA G League Most Valuable Player JD Davison. But doing so would theoretically put them right back over said second apron, negating the point of having made the move to part ways with Davison in the first place. Could another move to clear salary and open up some cap to bring on Bassey be in the works, or is Boston focused on other things at this point in the 2025 offseason? The hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below! The Boston Celtics cutting JD Davison gave them more than just cap relief
The Boston Celtics cutting point guard JD Davison gave them more than just cap relief. The Celtics elected to move on from last season's G League Most Valuable Player earlier this week, with the most obvious reasoning behind the move from the outside being getting the team's roster under the second apron, which will save the team some money. But it also got the Celtics free of all the restrictive team building impacts that status puts on the team's front office, making it easier to begin reshaping the roster in earnest for the return of injured star forward Jayson Tatum next season. What specific things does this newfound status bring to Boston in terms of team building? Spanish small forward Hugo Gonzalez is a perfect fit for the Boston Celtics
Spanish small forward Hugo Gonzalez is a perfect fit for the Boston Celtics. Or such is the point of view shared by the hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, in a recent clip taking a closer look at the 19-year-old wing that Boston elected to select with the No. 28 overall pick of the 2025 NBA draft. While he does not yet have a clear-cut, Association-level skill to his repertoire, the Madrid native has one of the highest motors we have ever seen a player maintain on the court, and the athleticism and strength to make good use of it against some of the best competition in the world. Simone and LaFrance take some time on a recent episode to highlight what it was that likely got the Celtics front office to take the European forward in the first round. Check it out below! Reacting to the Boston Celtics drafting forward Hugo Gonzalez
The Boston Celtics have made their pick for the No. 28 overall selection of the 2025 NBA draft, and it has some fans of the team scratching their head. Boston elected to take Spanish small forward Hugo Gonzalez with their sole pick in the first round of the draft, a 6-foot-6 wing able to jump out of the gym with a motor that only seems to be able to go in fourth gear. But his youth and rawness are both the attraction and concern, as the native of Madrid, Spain has yet to develop any bona fide NBA-level skills -- but also oozes potential with his raw athleticism and energetic play. Did the Celtics potentially strike gold with this pick late in the first round, or chain themselves to guaranteed salary with a player they will not likely have a ton of time to develop? the hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, put together a clip talking over the selection for the Celtics. Should the Boston Celtics take French small forward Noah Penda in the 2025 NBA draft?
Should the Boston Celtics take French small forward Noah Penda in the 2025 NBA draft? The Celtics control the Nos. 28 and 32 picks of the '25 draft in the first and second round, respectively, and could need some cheap forward depth for the future. If Boston trades away backup 3-and-D specialist Sam Hauser into someone's cap space to save money on a potentially historic tax bill and pick up a draft asset or two, that need would be even greater. Enter Penda, a 6-foot-7 forward weighing in at 225 lbs. in his 20th year. Playing overseas in France for Le Mans Sarthe, the Frenchman passes well and put up 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, just under a block, and 1.2 steals per game in 27.3 minutes per game.
