Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Memphis Grizzlies are entering the upcoming offseason with a ton of questions around their roster. After being swept out of the postseason, Memphis could be in store for some big changes across the team. More NBA news: Lakers' Luka Doncic Looks Completely Unrecognizable Under New Training The franchise parted with former head coach Taylor Jenkins just before the playoffs, replacing him with Tuomas Iisalo. The team then named Iisalo as the permanent coach moving forward, as they try to keep some stability. One of the biggest issues plaguing this Grizzlies team this summer is with star big man Jaren Jackson Jr. and his future with the organization. Jackson Jr. is eligible to receive a big contract extension this offseason, but the team could elect to move him. However, Memphis was given a gift of good luck when Jackson Jr. wasn't placed on any of the three All-NBA teams for the 2024-25 season. Due to this, Jackson Jr. will now miss out on a supermax contract from the Grizzlies. But Memphis still needs to figure out what it wants to do with the star big man. "And while the Grizzlies wouldn't have to offer the full 35-percent-of-the-cap boat, there would have been pressure to give him at least 30 percent. Memphis can instead now focus on a renegotiation and extension" Jaren Jackson Jr. #13 of the Memphis Grizzlies looks on against the Dallas Mavericks during the game of the Play-In Tournament at FedExForum on April 18, 2025 in Memphis, Tennessee. Photo byIf Jackson Jr. does stay with the team, it would cost Memphis much less to keep him around. But this also takes a huge advantage away from the Grizzlies, as opposing teams can now pay him a similar amount out on the open market. The two-time All-Star has averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game this past season. Jackson Jr. pairs very well alongside co-star Ja Morant, but due to the lack of deep playoff runs, the front office could be looking to make some changes. It remains to be seen what Memphis will do this summer, but Jackson Jr. will be the center of it all. If Jackson Jr. does hit the open market in free agency next offseason or the Grizzlies make him available via trade, there will be plenty of suitors to land him. Why Draymond was disappointed with Jackson Jr. in Warriors' win
Why Draymond was disappointed with Jackson Jr. in Warriors' win originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Draymond Green never will shy away from offering his NBA mentees advice. Even after he helps hand them a brutal loss. Advertisement The veteran forward spoke to reporters after the Warriors' 134-125 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday at FedExForum and shared why he was 'disappointed' in Memphis center Jaren Jackson Jr., who fouled out after colliding with Golden State forward Jimmy Butler with 1:55 remaining in the fourth quarter. 'I'm disappointed in Jaren,' Green said. 'I've got a lot of love for him, that's my Spartan dog. He's too good to still be getting in foul trouble. A couple of them fouls he picked up, he can stay away from those. It's time for him to take that next step in that department, because it was huge for us for him to get out of the game. And I'm happy he did, but I am a Jaren fan. I'm always rooting for him. 'To see him still getting some of those fouls he's picking up, he can't do that. His team needs him out there … Jaren's got to figure that out, he's gotten too much better offensively and too hard to stop to be taking himself out of the game on the defensive side of the ball. That was disappointing, from the big brother in me. That was a little disappointing.' Advertisement Jackson Jr. himself seems to agree. 'You just can't do it, I'm too important,' Jackson Jr. said postgame. 'I have to be out there, and that's on me. I definitely let everybody down in terms of that and I'll own that. Green and Jackson Jr. developed a friendship after the Warriors forward took the young big man under his wing when he was selected by the Grizzlies with the No. 4 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. And even through the Warriors benefited from Jackson Jr.'s absence in the final minutes of Tuesday's game, Green wishes the former Defensive Player of the Year had stayed out of foul trouble. 'Den of Thieves 2' hits Netflix: Action sequel starring Gerard Butler surges in popularity despite mixed reviews
Gerard Butler returns as grizzled lawman Nick O'Brien in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, now streaming on Netflix. The action-packed sequel follows O'Brien as he heads to Europe to track down criminal mastermind Donnie Wilson, played by O'Shea Jackson Jr. The new chapter sees the pair caught in a high-stakes diamond heist set in the picturesque city of Nice, France. While critics have offered mixed reviews, giving the film a 63% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audience feedback has been far more positive, with a 79% rating on the Popcornmeter. Charles Bramesco of The Guardian awarded it four stars, calling it 'another brash yet hugely entertaining 'Heat'-aping thriller.' Brian Tallerico of described it as 'a heist procedural, granular with details, elevated by a pair of charismatic leading men in one of the most beautiful places in the world.' The sequel, directed by Christian Gudegast, builds on the gritty intensity of the 2018 original while offering a lighter tone and expanded international setting. Butler's character, now facing a personal crisis after a divorce and forced leave from the LAPD, infiltrates Donnie's crew in a bid to redeem himself and take down the gang from the inside. The chemistry between Butler and Jackson Jr. remains a highlight, with their onscreen tension and reluctant camaraderie driving much of the film's appeal. The film also stars Evin Ahmad, Salvatore Esposito, and Fortunato Cerlino, adding depth to the ensemble cast. Following the success of Den of Thieves 2, the franchise is already moving forward with a third instalment. A post from the official X account in January confirmed Den of Thieves 3 is in development, with Jackson Jr. expressing his commitment to continuing the series.

Grizzlies Jaren Jackson Jr. to miss weeks with Grade 2 ankle sprain
How many players in the league are their team's best offensive player and best defender? Giannis Antetokounmpo is an obvious choice in Milwaukee but after that? Jaren Jackson Jr. is that in Memphis. He leads the team in scoring at 22.7 points a game (with 5.8 rebounds) and has become a primary shot creator for the Grizzlies, plus Jackson Jr. will be in the mix (and may be the front runner) for Defensive Player of the Year. Which is why the news Jackson Jr. going to be out weeks with a Grade 2 ankle sprain is such a blow to the Grizzlies. The @memgrizz today announced the following medical update for Jaren Jackson Jr. Not good news at any time, but with Ja Morant missing games with a shoulder injury it is especially troubling for Memphis. How long will Jackson Jr. be out? Jeff Stotts of In Street Clothes says about three weeks, which would be around a dozen games. Re: Jaren Jackson Jr.: A Grade 2 sprain is also known as a partial or incomplete tear. Multiple players have sustained G2 ankle sprains in recent seasons, include teammate Ja Morant. The average time lost for injuries of this severity is ~ 3 weeks. Memphis outscored opponents by 9.2 points per 100 possessions when Jackson Jr. is on the court this season. Memphis, 38-23, is in the middle of a tight race for seeds 2-5 in the West: the Lakers, Nuggets, Rockets and Grizzlies are all within two games of each other. Memphis cannot afford to go on a slide while Jackson Jr. is out. Jackson Jr. is in the mix for Defensive Player of the Year and is almost a lock for an All-NBA team. He's played in 59 games, and as long as he returns in time to play six more, he will qualify for postseason awards. Based on his estimated three-week absence it will be tight, but you can be sure Jackson Jr. and the Grizzlies are well aware of the situation.

Jesse Jackson Jr. seeks pardon for himself, millions of others
CHICAGO — A day after former Governor Rod Blagojevich received a presidential pardon, former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is calling for millions more. Jackson Jr. addressed the public Tuesday during the faith and community 'Leaders Network' monthly meeting on the city's West Side. Jackson Jr. served 17 years in Congress and resigned in 2012 amid a criminal investigation. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to defraud his re-election campaign. On Tuesday, he discussed how he aggressively campaigned for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, and how he could not vote due to his 2013 conviction for campaign fraud. President Trump pardons former Governor Rod Blagojevich After Harris' defeat in November, Jackson Jr. along with his father, Jesse Jackson Sr., appealed to then-President Joe Biden for a pardon for himself and the 77 million people who, he says, are currently marginalized from voting — and excluded from numerous employment opportunities. This all comes after Blagojevich was pardoned by President Donald Trump on Monday. The former governor has maintained his stance on never breaking any laws. 'There's 70 million men and women in our nation who have paid their debt to society in full. Don't owe America nothing else. Have never reoffended. It's time to demand an emancipation proclamation for them,' Jackson Jr said Tuesday. Jackson Jr. contends that if those 77 million people were pardoned, they would owe their allegiance to Trump and the Republican party. Jackson Jr. also mentioned the letter that he and his father wrote back in 2019, calling on Trump to pardon Blagojevich. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
