Texas DoorDash driver stabbed, carjacked at Waffle House after offering to buy man food
After completing his final DoorDash delivery of the day, Jackson Oltmanns stopped at a Waffle House in Burleson around 2 a.m. last Saturday to grab a meal, but things quickly took a turn. When a man experiencing homelessness approached his car window and asked for money, Oltmanns explained he didn't have cash. However, when the man mentioned he was looking for a warm meal, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Oltmanns got out of his car to help, only for the man to attack him. Fort Worth Police Department confirmed they responded to a stabbing incident at the Waffle House on the 200 block of W. Rendon Crowley Road shortly before 3 a.m. According to the police report, the suspect stole Oltmanns' vehicle after the physical altercation. "Unfortunately, this almost cost me my life as he immediately began stabbing me," Oltmanns wrote in a GoFundMe post. "He tried to kill me, stabbing me at least 10 times. Luckily, I was able to defend myself for most of it." In the post, Oltmanns said the worst wound was a stab to his face before the man carjacked him, leaving him behind as he bled out. "I thought I was dead," he wrote in the fundraiser. "There was so much blood, but luckily, I'm still here." The man who attacked him outside was apprehended down the road about 18 miles north in the 2400 block of Meacham Blvd., where police also recovered Otlmanns' vehicle. In a later update, published on April 6, Oltsmann thanked those who contributed to his fundraiser after the tragedy. As of Tuesday, he's completed about 87% of his $2,000 goal, raising more than $1,900 between 44 people. "You all are such an incredible blessing to me and your support and contributions to far beyond what words can express in gratitude," he said. "With that being said truly from the bottom of my heart thank you." He added that he received news that he has a 50/50 chance of ever being able to move his right eyebrow and forehead again "due to a nerve being severed during the attack." The suspect was later identified as 24-year-old Quindarius Cartwright, who was arrested on the charge of aggravated robbery, according to the Fort Worth Police Department. DoorDash Driver Allegedly Stabbed More Than 10 Times During Carjacking by Man He Offered to Help
A DoorDash delivery driver in Texas claims that a man attacked him outside a restaurant in south Fort Worth on March 31 Driver Jackson Oltmanns, 28, alleges that he encountered a man in a Waffle House parking lot and offered to buy him some food He claims that, as he got out of his car, the man then stabbed him and attempted to steal his vehicle A Texas food delivery driver is recovering after he was attacked outside a restaurant — by a man he offered to help. According to reports from local affiliate station Fox 4 and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 28-year-old Jackson Oltmanns had just finished delivering food for DoorDash in south Fort Worth at around 2 a.m. local time on March 31. Oltmanns was in a parking lot of a Waffle House on West Rendon Crowley Road, and was preparing to go inside, when a man — identified by the outlets as 24-year-old Quindarius Cartwright — allegedly approached him and asked for money. In a GoFundMe campaign, Oltmanns alleges that he told the man that he did not have cash, and instead offered to buy him some food. As he got out of his car, the man allegedly stabbed him and attempted to steal his car. "He told me he was just trying to get some food, you know, acting out of my good nature and just trying to be nice," Oltmanns told Fox 4. "I opened my car and was going to get him some food, and literally the second I open my door to step out, he just starts stabbing me." In his GoFundMe post, the DoorDash driver alleges that he was stabbed "at least 10 times." Fort Worth Police told the Star-Telegram that they arrived at the scene just before 3 a.m. Oltmanns had sustained cuts to his face, and his car — a 2024 Toyota Camry, per Fox 4 — had been stolen, police told the Star-Telegram. Medical personnel treated the man at the scene for his injuries. In a photo shared on GoFundMe, Oltmanns showed that his face and clothes had been bloodied in the incident. "[I] genuinely thought I was going to die, it was so much blood. I walked in Waffle House, and they were freaking out. I mean, I'm sure it's probably a traumatic thing for anyone to watch," Oltmanns told Fox 4. "Most of the stab wounds, like to the body, weren't really too bad, it was just when he stabbed me in the face that it was really bad." Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Police told the Star-Telegram that Cartwright was later arrested on the 2400 block of Meacham Boulevard. Oltmanns' car was recovered, the delivery driver told Fox 4. "He definitely hit something pretty good, and it's messed up the wheel," Oltmanns told the outlet, referring to the damage to his car. "I can't tell you how many times I've been asked for money by homeless people or just people out on the streets, and typically, good nature is just to want to do a good thing for them. But I learned that night you've got to be very careful about who you're willing to help out because sometimes they will take advantage of that good nature," he added. Tarrant County court records viewed by PEOPLE show that Cartwright was charged with aggravated robbery and is currently being held on a $150,000 bond. Read the original article on People
