Aston Villa vs Tottenham: Prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h results, odds

Aston Villa host Tottenham in one of two Friday night fixtures in the Premier League this week. The game was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, only for the top-flight to approve Spurs' request to bring it forward as a result of their progress into the Europa League final, giving them the same amount of time as Manchester United - who travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after their match was moved to avoid a clash with the Women's FA Cup final - to prepare for the Bilbao showpiece on May 21. While Tottenham and United continue to endure truly disastrous domestic campaigns that see them sit 17th and 16th respectively with only two matches remaining, the rearranged games have a lot of significance for both Villa and Chelsea as they battle furiously for a top-five finish and Champions League qualification next season. Villa withstood Jacob Ramsey's late red card to win 1-0 at Bournemouth last weekend thanks to Ollie Watkins' goal late in first-half stoppage time that saw him become the club's record Premier League goalscorer. That win guaranteed Unai Emery's side at least a spot in the Conference League next season as they can no longer finish any lower than seventh, though they are still aiming for a second successive campaign at Europe's top table after making the Champions League quarter-finals this year, staying sixth and level on points with Chelsea in fifth after the latter lost 2-0 at Newcastle - who rose to third - and seventh-place Nottingham Forest were held at home by relegated Leicester. All eyes are on the Europa League final for Tottenham as they finally seek to win a first major trophy since 2008 and first in Europe for 41 years that would take them back to the Champions League, but the case for Ange Postecoglou remaining as manager regardless of what happens in Bilbao is not being helped by their continued domestic struggles as a much-changed team were beaten 2-0 at home by Crystal Palace - their 20th league loss of the season. Aston Villa vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 7:30pm BST kick-off on Friday May 16, 2025. The match will take place at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham. TV channel: The match is being broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports. Coverage begins on Sky Sports Premier League at 7pm BST. Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can also watch the action unfold live online via the Sky Go app. Live blog: You won't miss anything with Standard Sport's live blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from chief football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick at Villa Park. Midfielder Ramsey will serve a one-match ban for Villa after his two yellow cards against Bournemouth, while Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford is out with a hamstring injury. Youri Tielemans will be assessed after missing last weekend's win at the Vitality Stadium with a knock. Postecoglou made eight changes against Palace with one eye firmly fixed on the Europa League final and seems unlikely to take any risks again on Friday night. Captain Heung-min Son will get more minutes ahead of Bilbao after returning off the bench last weekend, though it seems very unlikely that Dejan Kulusevski will feature after a minor knee issue picked up against Palace that Spurs hope he will shake off for the final. James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Radu Dragusin have all been lost for the season, along with young striker Dane Scarlett. Villa have responded to their shocking FA Cup semi-final defeat by Crystal Palace at Wembley with back-to-back narrow league wins to boost their hopes of a top-five finish. Emery's men are not firing on all cylinders, though are grinding out results to stay very much in the Champions League qualification mix, having done so brilliantly in that competition this season. With only the cut-adrift and settled bottom three now below them, Spurs' league campaign has been totally miserable, yielding 20 losses from a season that has included 25 defeats in total. Tottenham have only won once in the league since February, a 1-0 victory over Southampton in early April that relegated the rock-bottom Saints. None of their fringe players have been stating a case for inclusion in the starting XI for Bilbao and it's not difficult to foresee another tough evening in store. Aston Villa to win, 2-1. Spurs thumped 10-man Villa 4-0 away last season after losing 2-1 at home and also thrashed them 4-1 in north London back in November. The two sides also met in the FA Cup fourth round in February, with hosts Villa winning 2-1. Aston Villa wins: 61 Tottenham wins: 79 Draws: 36 Aston Villa to win: 1/3 Tottenham to win: 6/1 Draw: 9/2 Odds via Betfair (subject to change).

Andoni Iraola fumes over ‘very violent' Tyrone Mings elbow that fractured Alex Scott's jaw

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has questioned why Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings was not sent off for what he felt was a 'very violent' elbow on Alex Scott. The young midfielder went down in the sixth minute at the Vitality Stadium after being caught by an arm from Mings, and was eventually forced off at half time as the hosts suffered a 1-0 defeat. Scott underwent lengthy treatment after the incident and went down again later having clashed with Amadou Onana. Mings was not shown a caution for his challenge. Aston Villa had Jacob Ramsey dismissed late on for a second bookable offence, one that home manager Iraola did not feel merited a card. But the Bournemouth boss was incensed that the officials did not sanction Mings, believing that he should have been shown red. "The second yellow that Ramsey received is not a second yellow," Iraola told BBC Sport. "Tyrone Mings knows what he is doing, he knew where Alex was. It was very violent. "The value of a red card in the sixth minute or the 80th minute is very different. He sees Alex coming and for me it is very dangerous. "I hope he can finish the season but I really don't know. He was almost knocked out. After the elbow we didn't know if he could continue. He wanted to continue but he was not 100%. It [was] a very violent elbow." Aston Villa, meanwhile, have climbed to sixth in the Premier League table as they continue their good recent form, though Nottingham Forest could go ahead of them with victory against Leicester on Sunday.

Andoni Iraola claims Aston Villa star should have been sent off for 'DANGEROUS' challenge that left Alex Scott with a possible broken jaw

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has claimed that an Aston Villa star should have been sent off during an altercation that left one of his players with a possible broken jaw. The Cherries' European hopes took a major hit on Saturday evening as they lost 1-0 at home to Villa, who themselves helped their bid to finish in the Champions League qualification spots. Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game, while Villa's Jacob Ramsey was shown a red card for two yellow card offences late on in the game, ensuring Villa ended the match with 10 men. Some felt the visitors should have been down to 10 much earlier, though, when Tyrone Mings appeared to elbow Alex Scott in the jaw early on in the game. The incident appeared accidental, but saw Scott hit the deck and receive treatment on the field. He returned and played out the rest of the half, but was substituted at half-time because he could not continue. And Cherries boss Iraola took issue with the decision not to send Mings off, branding the incident 'dangerous' and leaping to the defence of his player. "It's not a red card for me at all." Jamie Redknapp and Lee Hendrie agree Tyrone Mings' challenge on Alex Scott shouldn't have been a red and didn't warrant a sending off 🚫 — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) May 10, 2025 Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has claimed Tyrone Mings should have been sent off for a challenge on Alex Scott 'Yeah, for me. I think if Alex plays with jaw - I don't know if it's broken or not broken,' Iraola told Sky Sports when he asked if Mings should have been shown a red card. 'He has gone down two times [leaving us] with 10 players. 'We didn't know if he would continue or not. He has finished the first half, but you could see straight away, he was not… he was not well, I think. 'It's a very dangerous challenge. Very dangerous. I think, on the other side, I think the second yellow to Ramsey, for me, is not a yellow card. But obviously, the value of a red card in the 80th minute with the value of a red card in the sixth minute is very different. But I think overall, in these small things, they've competed better than us.' Replays appeared to show Mings' elbow connecting with the jaw of Scott, leaving the midfielder floored before he was consoled by the Villa defender in the aftermatch. It was a match that saw referee Stuart Attwell issues a number of yellow cards as home fans grew frustrated, but Mings was one player who escpaed without any punishment. And rightly so, according to Jamie Redknapp. 'I don't personally think it is [a red card],' Redknapp said on Sky Sports punditry. 'I always admire what Andoni says. He understands the game really well. Sometimes it's your emotions. 'I think he just gets his arm up there. Obviously, there is a massive difference in the height with Scott and Tyrone. I think he just gets his arm out. I don't think he necessarily swings his elbow, he just puts it out. 'You have to use your arms to create a bit of leverage, to create space. I don't think that's it. If it could have been a yellow card, I just don't think it's a red card. I don't think he's malicious. I just think it's one of those actions.'

Southampton hold City to pass Derby's record low points total

PA Media/dpa London Manchester City missed the chance to pile the pressure on second-placed Arsenal after being held to a goalless draw at Southampton, who ensured they would not become the equal worst team in Premier League history. The draw left City, with an inferior goal difference, two points behind the Gunners, who head to champions Liverpool on Sunday, and two ahead of Newcastle and Chelsea, who play each other on Sunday. However, bottom side Southampton's 12th point of the season meant they moved ahead of Derby's 2008 tally, sparking wild celebrations among fans. Ollie Watkins became Aston Villa's record Premier League goalscorer as his 75th goal for the club in the competition was enough to beat Bournemouth 1-0 and intensify the race for Champions League places. Sixth-placed Villa, who had Jacob Ramsey sent off for a second bookable offence 10 minutes from time, are now only two points behind City but Bournemouth's hopes of sneaking into Europe were dealt a significant blow. Brentford and Brighton maintained their push for European football next season with victories at Ipswich and Wolves respectively. Kevin Schade scored his fourth goal in three league matches in the eighth-placed Bees' 1-0 win as he headed in an 18th-minute corner from Bryan Mbeumo, who became the third player to register 25 Premier League goal involvements this season. Brighton remain just behind on goal difference after Danny Welbeck, who earlier had a goal ruled out for offside, reached double figures in a Premier League campaign for the first time with a 29th-minute penalty. With leading scorer Joao Pedro having already scored 11, the Seagulls now have multiple players scoring 10-plus league goals in a single season for the first time. Brajan Gruda scored his maiden Brighton goal with a dink over the goalkeeper in the 85th minute to seal a 2-0 win. Everton recorded only their second win in 11 matches after coming from behind to beat Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage. Trailing to Raul Jimenez's 17th-minute header, Vitalii Mykolenko equalised via a deflected shot from the edge of the area in first-half added time. Centre-back Michael Keane, on his first start since February, headed home Dwight McNeil's inswinging 70th-minute corner and four minutes later Bernd Leno allowed Beto's shot to squeeze under his arms. Premier League Saturday Results: Fulham 1 Everton 3 Southampton 0 Man City 0 Ipswich 0 Brentford 1 Wolvers 0 Brighton 2 Bournemouth 0 Aston Villa 1.

Ollie Watkins keeps Aston Villa's Champions League hopes alive with record goal

Ollie Watkins became Aston Villa's outright record Premier League goalscorer as his side boosted their hopes of Champions League qualification by denting Bournemouth's European push with a 1-0 win. The England forward touched home Morgan Rogers' cross deep into first-half added time to move on to 75 top-flight strikes for Villa – one more than Gabriel Agbonlahor. Advertisement The visitors survived playing a man down for the final 10 minutes at the Vitality Stadium after Jacob Ramsey was sent off for a second bookable offence. A seventh victory in eight league games moved Unai Emery's men above Nottingham Forest into sixth spot – level on 63 points with fourth-placed Newcastle and Chelsea in fifth. As their quest for a top-five finish reaches a climax, Villa, who reached the Champions League quarter-finals this term, face Europa League finalists Tottenham and Manchester United in the final two weeks of the season. Meanwhile, Bournemouth go into their final two fixtures in 10th position, having dropped two points below both Brentford and Brighton following their respective wins earlier on Saturday. Advertisement Tyrone Mings returned to face his former club as part of four Villa changes, while Adam Smith – making his 400th Bournemouth appearance – was recalled alongside Alex Scott and Antoine Semenyo for the hosts. Cherries midfielder Scott required lengthy treatment after being caught by Mings' right elbow in the early stages before again going to ground holding his face following an incident involving Amadou Onana. Following a largely forgettable first half of few opportunities, the contest burst into life just before the break. Villa midfielder Marco Asensio struck the base of the right post in the 43rd minute with a low shot from the edge of the area before Cherries goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga produced a fine double save to deny headers from Boubacar Kamara and Matty Cash. Advertisement Cherries captain Smith then sparked a melee with a scything challenge to halt the run of Ramsey, with both players – and Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez – subsequently booked. Villa snatched the lead after Bournemouth failed to fully clear the resultant free-kick into the box. Semenyo was caught in possession by Cash on the Cherries' left wing, allowing Rogers to deliver a delightful low cross which Watkins deftly touched into the far corner to claim his milestone goal. Villa midfielder Kamara fired narrowly wide straight after the restart before Bournemouth substitute Justin Kluivert poked off target at the other end. Advertisement Chasing a leveller, the Cherries dominated second-half possession but, for long periods, offered little threat as the away team sat back. Bournemouth saw their bid for European football take a hit (Steven Paston/PA) Bournemouth's hopes were given a boost when Ramsey pulled back substitute David Brooks and was shown a second yellow card by referee Stuart Attwell. Semenyo and Evanilson each threatened equalisers, while Andoni Iraola's side appealed in vain for a penalty for handball after Milos Kerkez's effort struck Cash, whose arms were behind his back. Martinez then produced a remarkable stop to deny Semenyo at the death, with Daniel Jebbison somehow heading over the rebound as Villa hung on to record a fifth clean sheet in eight games and collect a precious three points.
