Devotees flock to Mahalakshmi temples for Varalakshmi vratam
Mahalakshmi temples across Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts wore a festive look as devotees gathered to offer special prayers to the presiding deities on the occasion of Varalakshmi Vratam celebrated on the third Friday of the auspicious month of Sravanam. At the Iswharya Vekateswara Sametha Astalakshmi temple of Ayyannapeta, in Vizianagaram priests performed Abhisekham and Kumkum puja. The Sri Kanyakaparameswari temple witnessed a heavy rush of devotees. Temple trustee Narayanam Srinivas oversaw the arrangements for special prayers. In the Lord Jagannath Swamy temple, the Goddess Mahalakshmi was adorned with flowers. Jagannath Seva Samithi member Kapuganti Prakash said that the Goddess Mahalakshmi shrine within the temple premises is believed to be constructed 800 years ago, making it the oldest temple in the region. Vinayaka Panchayatana Alayam temple trustee P. Jaganmohana Rao made arrangements for Kumkum puja at the Astalakshmi temple located within the premises of PN Colony, Srikakulam district. Devotees thronged the temple in the early hours to offer prayers. It is the first Astalakshmi temple constructed a decade ago.

Shravana month begins, devotees flock temples
With the beginning of auspicious Shravana month, special prayers were offered to Goddess Mahalakshmi at several temples in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on Friday. The Mahalakshmi temple within the Lord Jagannath Swamy temple in Vizianagaram — believed to be one of the oldest temples of the Goddess of wealth — witnessed elaborate arrangements for kumkum puja and other prayers by Jagannath Seva Samithi members Kapuganti Prakash Dadi Bhaskara Rao. At Sri Kanyaka Parameswari temple, a unprecedented rush was witnessed. The presiding deity was adorned in the form of Mahalakshmi. The temple chairman Narayanam Srinivas announced that during the Shravanamasam Utsavalu, the presiding deity would be adorned in a golden sari and a diamond studded crown. The Ishwarya Venkateswara Sametha Ashtalakshmi temple in Ayyannapeta, Vizianagaram and the Ashtalakshmi temple in PN Colony, Srikakulam witnessed a huge rush of women devotees from early hours, marking the beginning of the sacred month with devotion and celebration.

Rath Yatra celebrated with devotion in Vizianagaram, Parvatipuram
PARVATIPURAM Hundreds of devotees offered special prayers to Lord Jagannath Swamy and participated in the celestial annual Rath Yatra in Vizianagaram on Friday. Devotees pulled the chariot from Lord Jagannath Swamy temple to Sri Kanyakaparameswari temple where it was stationed for devotees to offer prayers till evening.. Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and the Goddess Subhadra's wooden idols were decorated with flowers. The Lord Jagannath Swamy temple which is said to be over 800 years old witnessed a huge rush of devotees. Representatives of the Jagannath Seva Samithi including Kapuganti Prakash, Dadi Bhaskara Rao, priest Phaniram Pawan Kalyan Manikantha and others made elaborate arrangements to ensure devotees could have smooth darshan. In Parvatipuram, the Ratha Yatra organised was equally grand and drew a large number of pilgrims on Friday. Minister for Agriculture K. Atchannaidu, Parvatipuram MLA Bonela Vijaya Chandra pulled the celestial chariot and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath Swamy. Mr. Vijaya Chandra said that Parvatipuram which is the gateway for Odisha would celebrate the festival as per the traditions and culture of the Puri Jagannath Swamy temple.

Special prayers offered to Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy on Akshaya Tritiya
On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, women devotees offered prayers at the Sri Jagannatha Swamy temple on Wednesday. A special 'Ksheerabhisekham' was performed to the idols of Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy. The temple, believed to be constructed in 13th Century wore a festive look as devotees arrived to offer prayers to the presiding deities. To ensure a hassle free darshan for devotees, members of the Jagannath Seva Samithi, along with priest Manikantha made elaborate arrangements.
