Jaipur jail warder held for taking bribe
Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Wednesday arrested a warder of Jaipur district Jail after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 26,000. The accused, identified as Jagveer Singh, was posted at the district jail and was allegedly demanding money to ensure an inmate was not harassed.
According to ACB ADG Smita Srivastava, a complaint was received stating that the warder demanded Rs 70,000 from a man whose brother was lodged in Jaipur District Jail for the past eight days in connection with a kidnapping for ransom case. The complainant alleged that the warder repeatedly pressured him to pay the bribe, warning that non-payment could lead to mistreatment of the inmate.
An ACB official said the agency verified the complaint.
During the verification process, there was a negotiation regarding the bribe amount. The complainant told the ACB that he was unable to arrange such a large sum at short notice.
The warder then allegedly told him to arrange whatever amount he could manage but insisted on at least Rs 40,000. "The complainant was asked to come to a place outside the district jail premises. The warder asked how much he brought, to which the ACB complainant replied that he managed only Rs 26,000," the official said.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB carried out a trap operation. "A team led by additional SP Gyan Prakash Naval caught the warder taking Rs 26,000 from the complainant," said DIG Rahul Katakey.
ACB officials said further questioning and legal procedures are underway. A case was filed against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the investigation is continuing.
