PFF gives Broncos ‘A' grade for 2025 offseason
It's considered a great offseason when you sign Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga and draft Jahdae Barron. This is how Pro Football Focus concluded on the Denver Broncos and their stellar offseason. PFF rewarded Denver with an 'A' grade for their offseason, compared to the Indianapolis Colts, who scored a B+, and the Miami Dolphins, who received a C+. PFF detailed why they gave the Broncos their grade, citing key signings such as Greenlaw: The Broncos ranked 10th in the NFL last season in team PFF defensive grade (74.1), as well as in the top half of the league in run defense, coverage and pass rush. Now, they've added Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga and Jahdae Barron, among other depth players. That group could absolutely be the best in the NFL. Throw in some key additions on offense, such as running back RJ Harvey via the draft and tight end Evan Engram via free agency, and you have one heck of an offseason in Denver. While it's great the Broncos are winning the offseason, it's important they don't lose track of the ultimate goal: playing for another Super Bowl title in the fall. Aqib Talib Advises Broncos Rookie Jahdae Barron to Learn From Pat Surtain II
The Denver Broncos selected cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Pairing Barron with Pat Surtain II and Riley Moss creates one of the best cornerback trios in the NFL. Barron, in his rookie year, will get to learn alongside Surtain and Moss as he transitions to the NFL. With the Broncos having a strong history of elite cornerbacks, there will be plenty of former and current players willing to help Barron acclimate to the NFL. Advertisement Former Broncos All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib also provided some advice for the rookie cornerback. During his appearance on DNVR Sports with Bennie Fowler, Talib was asked what kind of advice he'd give to Barron entering the NFL. Talib gave a simple answer, "You got the cheat code, bro. Follow Surtain around, ask him questions, get his number, and see how to be a pro. He's a good dude, he's not going to stiff-arm you and mislead you on information. Get up under that dude's wing and learn how to be a pro." Talib also had advice on how to approach entering the league, with what he did when he came to the NFL. Talib said, "I'd tell my guy to reset, that's what I did, I got to the league, and it's like, 'alright, this is what I dreamed of, now I gotta set a new goal. I'm here now, what I wanna do now?'" Advertisement Coincidently, both Talib and Barron were both cornerbacks selected 20th overall. Coming into the NFL in 2008, Talib started with the Tampa bay Buccaneers before finding his way to the Broncos where he helped them win a Super Bowl in 2015. Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib (21) before the game against the Dallas Cowboys at Sports Authority Field at Mile Chenoy-Imagn Images Talib was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL when he was on the Broncos, and he was a huge reason why Denver was able to win the Super Bowl. He was a five-time Pro Bowler, with four coming in the four years he was in Denver. Taking advice from such a player makes a ton of sense. Talib's advice to 'reset' when entering the league and go under Surtain's wing is noteworthy advice for Barron to take. Advertisement With the successful career of Talib, and Surtain's immense success since joining the Broncos, there is plenty of reason for Barron to listen to Talib's advice when it comes to making it to the NFL. NFL.com projects Broncos CB Jahdae Barron as a future Pro Bowler
projects Broncos CB Jahdae Barron as a future Pro Bowler Ahead of the 2025 NFL draft earlier this year, Bucky Brooks published a list of prospects he described as future All-Pros, Pro Bowlers and overachievers in this year's class. The All-Pros were headlined by Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, who was picked second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Pro Bowlers included UNC running back Omarion Hampton (picked by the Los Angeles Chargers) and Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron, the Denver Broncos' first-round draft pick. Brooks described Michigan cornerback Will Johnson and Barron as "intriguing CB1 candidates with special skills that could help them flourish in multi-faceted roles." Johnson was picked by the Arizona Cardinals. Not even Pat Surtain, Denver's ninth overall pick in 2021, made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, so Barron would need to have an incredible year to earn all-star recognition in 2025. Following his rookie season, PS2 has earned three straight Pro Bowl nods, and he won Defensive Player of the Year last fall. Barron doesn't have to reach Surtain's level to be considered a success, but if Brooks is right, the young cornerback might be poised to join PS2 at future Pro Bowls. Former Texas Longhorns DB Jahdae Barron is making a great first impression with Broncos
Over the last week, teams across the NFL got their first look at their rookies in minicamps. That includes Jahdae Barron, who was drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos. So far, Broncos head coach Sean Payton and his coaching staff have been impressed by what they have seen from the former Longhorn. During the draft, the Broncos' plan was to take the best player available. In the first round, it was Barron when they were on the clock, and he came as advertised. Advertisement "I would say [he is] exactly what we saw on tape: smart, savvy," Payton said of Barron on Saturday. "If you're watching closely, some people transition and stop very quickly. He has really quick twitch. I'd say he's sticky in coverage." For many in Austin, Payton's assessment comes as no surprise. In four seasons as a Longhorn, Barron recorded 227 total tackles and 32 pass deflections. He also had eight interceptions, including a career-high five during the 2024 campaign. With Barron leading the secondary, Texas was a hard team for offensive coordinators to plan against. As the Texas native frustrated opposing quarterbacks, he added to his trophy case. Last year, Barron won the Jim Thorpe Award. The award is given annually to the nation's top defensive back. While that raised expectations, Barron is focusing on enjoying the process and learning as much as he can every practice. Advertisement "It's fun just to be out here. Last time I put on a helmet was a long time ago, so I'm just enjoying the process," Barron said. "It's good—just learning, learning information, taking information in from all the coaches. But I'm just blessed, truly blessed." If Barron becomes the player he is projected to be, the Broncos will have a franchise player in their secondary for years. So far, his play and work ethic have created more excitement for his future. This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Texas Ex Jahdae Barron has been everything the Broncos hoped so far
