How Can A Dentist Help Her Hear Again? Surat Woman's Case Baffles Everyone

Last Updated: A 63-year-old woman in Surat, deaf for nearly two decades, unexpectedly regained her hearing after a dental procedure. For nearly 20 years, 63-year-old Jaibunnisha M from Kosamba in Surat district could barely hear. Even the best hearing aids didn't work for her, leaving her cut off from the world. She stopped attending weddings and social gatherings. Many thought she had become distant because her children lived abroad. But in truth, she simply couldn't hear them. Everything changed in July this year. A cochlear implant surgery was planned to help her hear again. Her daughter, a radiologist, flew in from Dubai, and her other daughter, a dentist, stayed ready to help from the US. But something unexpected happened just before the surgery. 'I was sitting at home when I suddenly began hearing sounds," said Jaibunnisha as quoted by The Times of India. 'I ran to tell my husband. We even went to our neighbour's house to confirm it wasn't just us." Her hearing came back after she underwent dental treatments like full-mouth reconstruction, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) rehabilitation, and nerve decompression. According to the report, Dr Rishi Bhatt, a dental implant specialist, said, 'Her hearing improved after the dental work. It's possible that decompressing the nerve connected to the ear had an effect." Once unable to have a proper phone conversation, Jaibunnisha can now talk freely and is looking forward to joining family events again. Her daughter Tehzeeb said, 'My calls used to be one-way – she'd talk, we'd listen. Now she's back." Even her husband Abbas, who is a doctor, was surprised. 'At first, I didn't believe her," he told Times of India. 'But we thank the Almighty. The dental implant helped her hear again." Doctors say this may be a mix of science and miracle. For Jaibunnisha, what matters most is being able to hear again and reconnect with life. What was once a long silence has now turned into meaningful conversations, laughter, and new hope.
