Tim Walz slams ‘toxic' white men while announcing he won't run in 2028 election

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has announced he won't be running in the 2028 US presidential election. His remarks came during an interview with former DNC chair Jaime Harrison on his podcast. The podcast, named 'At Our Table' with Jaime Harrison, featured Walz as the first episode's guest. Harrison asked Walz if he would run again in 2028, to which Walz replied, saying he was 'not'. 'I am doing all I can to help build the party and make sure whoever that person is wins,' Walz said.

Tim Walz questions why Democrats come off like they're against people being successful

Former Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz wondered why the Democratic Party comes off like it's against people being successful, during a podcast interview on Thursday. Walz said that President Donald Trump was able to capture "this idea of wealth and being able to be successful," during a conversation with former DNC chair Jaime Harrison on his podcast, "At Our Table." "We, as Democrats, we want people to pay their fair share, but why are we against people being successful like that? We can't be. Why are we against? We should talk about businesses. Not all businesses exploit their workers and we get ourselves stuck in that. And I think we lose them," Walz continued. Walz and Harrison also talked about what occurred with young Black voters in 2024, citing a discussion Walz had with Gov. Wes Moore, D-Md., who said a lot of "good-hearted politicians" go into Black communities and talk about restoring voting rights to felons. "And he said, not knowing how insulting that is for these young men to say, 'Look, I'm just looking for capital because I'm an entrepreneur. I got my JD from Georgetown, and I'd like to kind of do this. I'm thinking about starting this.' Where you're missing the point about, why are we narrowing it that it's about prison reform?" Walz said. Harrison also said he had gone head-to-head with people who are judgmental based on where or who people work for. Both Harrison and Walz insisted that the Democratic Party was stronger on the economy and better for businesses. "Look, the business community is finding [out] right now how bad a businessman Donald Trump is, crapping on the economy, you know, tariffs back and forth, threatening businesses," Walz said. The Minnesota governor went on to say "shame on you" to members of the business community who continue to support the president. "Can you imagine threatening individual businesses, saying, 'you're going to do this, or I'm going to do this,' as a leader? If you're in the business community, shame on you for supporting this guy still," Walz added. Walz argued that the Democratic Party should embrace being the party of "pro-business." "We're just simply talking about all businesses. What we don't want is monopolies. We don't want corruption. We don't want the folks that are preying on the communities that are bad actors, but we have this reputation that the business community is somewhat hands-off from us," he said. At a Center for American Progress (CAP) event in June, Walz suggested China might be the voice of "moral authority" following Israel's strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and military leaders.

Dems unveil new podcaster they hope will become left-wing Joe Rogan

Democrat supporters have unveiled a new podcaster they hope will become the left-wing Joe Rogan: the party's former chair, Jaime Harrison. At Our Table, which launched on Thursday, is described on its website as a space for 'honest, unfiltered conversations about our nation's challenges and hopes'. Harrison speaks with guests at his South Carolina home, including failed VP hopeful Tim Walz, and Hunter Biden, the disgraced son of former president Joe Biden. The former DNC chair told Semafor he hopes the podcast will provide a political education ahead of the 2028 presidential primary. 'Civic education in America is at an all-time low,' said Harrison, 49. 'It's really important to start educating people about these processes that are so important in terms of determining who our leaders will be.' Harrison said he also envisages At Our Table as a platform for Democrats to open up in the same way Donald Trump did for hours on air with Joe Rogan before he was elected for a second term in the White House. The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the most popular podcasts of all time, with 14.5 million followers by the end of 2024. Trump's approval rating surged as he appeared on mainstream social media channels like Rogan's ahead of the presidential election. Harrison told Semafor he had been mulling over launching a podcast 'for a while', and his first guests also include Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn. He said the Democratic Party had toyed with launching a YouTube channel called DTV, which he would anchor, but decided they didn't have the resources. The former politician said though, that after seeing increasing numbers of Americans 'getting their news from social media channels', he felt a left-leaning podcast was 'needed'. Harrison also outlined why he decided to interview Hunter Biden, who has been found guilty of illegally owning a gun while using drugs and filing his taxes late in recent years. 'In many ways, I think Hunter Biden has become a caricature in politics,' the podcast host told Semafor. 'A lot of people don't know how smart he is, don't know his background, don't know the stuff that he's worked on. 'They only know what either his allies or his enemies have put out there, and he's been defined by that. 'I thought it would be really interesting to pull back the curtain so that people got a chance to understand who he is, and for him to get an opportunity to talk about some of the things that maybe he's only been able to talk to his family members about. Harrison said he hopes the podcast will become a platform for Democrats to open up in the same way Donald Trump did for hours on air with Joe Rogan before he was elected in 2024. 'We Democrats put ourselves in straitjackets, and we sanitize every damn thing that comes out of our mouths,' the podcast host said. 'So what does come out comes out without any soul. Republicans understand the power of emotion. It could be fear or it could be joy, but it's emotion, and they use it.' Harrison added that by contrast to Trump ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz were 'muzzled' by their press teams and did not do enough interviews.

MAGA Republicans beware — Hunter Biden, of all people, thinks your blind loyalty to Trump is the right call

Former DNC chair Jaime Harrison has a new podcast. His first guest? Hunter Biden, the man many blame for playing a major role in the downfall of the last Democratic president. If an excerpt from that chat is any indication, neither guest nor host took many lessons from 2024. Hunter Biden, whose shockingly bad behaviour (stemming from past trauma and drug addiction) evolved into a fanatical, loyalty-driven effort to insulate his father from criticism, now blames that same criticism for sinking his father's career. So did Harrison, who graduated from losing a Senate race in South Carolina as a candidate to losing multiple Senate races, a presidential race and House races as DNC chair. The younger Biden reportedly spent much of 2024 managing Democratic allies' access to his father and encouraging him to stay in the race when polling showed he was on track to deliver the party a historic defeat, much worse than the one endured by his vice president on election night. But in the interview with Harrison, he presented that tunnel vision as a virtue, not a vice, and suggested that his party emulate something it has openly condemned for five years: the refusal of Republicans to break from Donald Trump under any circumstances, including the impeachment trial in the wake of January 6. Democrats 'lost the election because we did not remain loyal to the leader of the party,' Biden summed it up. The former DNC chair couched his own feelings on the matter when asked by NBC News whether he agreed, but didn't reject Hunter Biden's analysis, either. "If the waters get a little choppy, some of the folks in our party are the fastest to abandon ship, get off in a hurry and then torch the damn ship when they get off," Harrison told NBC News. He cautioned: "Not to say that it's always the right thing that Republicans have done, but sometimes Democrats need to sit back and pause and think about the long-term ramifications of that early abandonment.' 'Because I can tell you, it did not sit well with the base of the party, particularly Black voters," Harrison continued. "I remember a rally in Georgia right after the debate and people were pissed off. These are middle-aged, older Black men and women who were so upset the party was almost shivving Joe Biden, stabbing him in the back." Democratic voters had a right to be angry in the summer of 2024. When Joe Biden revealed himself onstage as unable to follow his opponent's remarks, whispery and visibly confused, the fear that rippled through both Biden loyalists and the broader Democratic Party base was palpable. Director Rob Reiner reportedly screamed at Doug Emhoff, husband to Harris, that Biden and his team were going to hand the election to Trump. The idea that internal party hand-wringing or the hurt feelings of party loyalists caused millions of voters to stay home is not supported by evidence. Those voters who were furious with their party for supposedly 'shivving' Biden would have had the time, place and freedom from the urgency of the moment to make those arguments in favor of loyalty to the president if the Democratic Party — if Jaime Harrison — had put on a real primary. If Biden had been on the debate stage in January instead of June, the debate would have taken place over weeks, instead of a matter of hours or minutes in some households. This, of course, did not happen. Biden hid from long-form sitdowns with tough interviewers and conducted heavily managed public appearances until it was too late. Then his team's demand for 'loyalty' fell on the deaf ears of frontline representatives and senators who had their own futures and campaigns to think about. MAGA Republicans should be thrilled to hear this (though maybe they though calibrate their enthusiasm, given how unlikely anyone is to listen to this duo). The only thing more destructive for a political party than blind loyalty to a winner could be blind loyalty to a loser.
