A mother and a one-year-old baby were among the dead, according to the local authorities. A group of three gunmen attacked a courthouse in the Islamic Republic's Sistan and Baluchestan province on Saturday morning, killing and injuring the building's staff and clients, the IRGC said in a statement published later in the day. The gunmen started a shootout with the police after failing to sneak into the building dressed as clients, Mehr News said, citing the local authorities. Before being killed, one reportedly threw a grenade into the building, killing and injuring a number of civilians. The other two gunmen were killed in the ensuing firefight on the street. Footage shows the first moments of clashes between IRGC Quds forces and terrorists attacking the courthouse in According to the IRGC, the attackers were found to have been wearing suicide vests. The Jaish al-Adl Baloch jihadist group – headquartered in neighboring Pakistan but also operating in Iran – has taken responsibility for the deadly attack. In a statement earlier in the day, the group urged civilians to flee the area. Last January, Tehran launched strikes on the Jaish al-Adl headquarters in southwestern Pakistan, after the jihadist group declared responsibility for a suicide bombing that killed nearly a dozen Iranian police officers the previous month.

At least 6 people, 3 gunmen Killed in 'terrorist' attack in Southeast Iran
TEHRAN — At least six people, including law enforcement, were killed Saturday during a "terrorist attack" on a judicial building in southeast Iran, the judiciary said. "The number of martyrs increased to six," the judiciary's Mizan online said following earlier reports of a death toll of five, with 13 injured. Provincial chief justice Ali Movahedi-Rad, cited by Mizan, later announced the injured count had reached 22,"most of whom were civilians". All three of the gunmen, who had tried to enter the building disguised as visitors and were wearing explosive vests, were killed, he added. "Three of the terrorists have been killed according to the announcement of the Quds Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps," Movahedi-Rad said. The death toll also included three law enforcement members who were protecting the courthouse. According to Alireza Daliri, deputy police commander of Sistan-Baluchistan province, the assailants threw a grenade into the building, killing several people inside. Iranian media said shortly after the attack that Jaish al Adl a Baloch jihadist group based in Pakistan but active in Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack. Located about 1,200 kilometres southeast of the capital Tehran, the restive province shares a long border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. The area has been the scene of recurring clashes between Iranian security forces, including the IRGC, and rebels from the Baluch minority, radical Sunni groups, and drug traffickers. In one of the deadliest incidents in the region, ten police officers were killed in October in what authorities also described as a "terrorist" attack.

Nine killed in courthouse attack in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province: Iranian media
At least nine people were killed in an armed attack by the Sunni Jaish al-Adl Baluch group on a courthouse in Iran's restive Sistan-Baluchestan province on Saturday, including three of the assailants, state media reported. Another 22 were injured, according to the report. Jaish al-Adl confirmed the deaths of its three members in the clashes with security forces in Zahedan, the capital of the far southeastern province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. Sistan-Baluchestan is home to Iran's Sunni Muslim Baluch minority, who have long complained of economic marginalisation and political exclusion. A toddler and a 60-year-old woman were among those killed, as well as three soldiers and law enforcement personnel assigned to the courthouse, the head of the province's judiciary told IRNA. He did not identify the sixth dead person. He said the attackers wore explosive vests and carried grenades. It was not clear if they had detonated them. Jaish al-Adl, which claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its Telegram account, said it had killed at least 30 members of the judiciary and security forces. It said it targeted judges and court personnel, whom it accused of issuing death sentences and house demolition orders to Baluch citizens.

At least six civilians killed in militant attack on courthouse in south-east Iran
An attack by the jihadist separatist group Jaish al-Adl on a courthouse in Iran's south-eastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan has killed at least six civilians, including a mother and child, and wounded 22, Iranian media reported on Saturday. Attackers stormed the building, shooting a number of people inside. They then launched a second attack with mortars and grenade launchers on the courthouse, where a clash began with security forces that lasted three hours, according to the Baluch human rights group Haalvsh. Three gunmen were killed in the clash, Iran's state news agency said. State media said several people injured in the attack were in critical condition and had been transferred to local hospitals. Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on Telegram and told civilians to evacuate the area 'for their safety'. Residents reported hearing several explosions and gunfire, while some roads that led to the courthouse were closed, Haalvsh reported. Sistan-Baluchestan province, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has had an ongoing insurgency for the past two decades. It is home to Iran's Sunni Baluch minority, who have advocated for autonomy and have long maintained that they experience marginalisation and exclusion under the Iranian government. The insurgency is part of a greater insurgency in Balochistan, which includes the Pakistani province of Balochistan. It is waged by Islamic militant groups and separatists and has included attacks which have wounded civilians as well as state security personnel in both countries. Jaish al-Adl is one of the Islamist militant groups in the province, and has been fighting Iranian security forces since 2014. Iranian authorities have designated the organisation a terrorist group and have accused Pakistan and Israel of backing the group. The group carried out an attack on a police station in Sistan-Baluchestan province in December 2023, killing 11 people. An attack by the group on Iranian border guards in January 2024 led to Iran striking Pakistan, saying it was targeting a Jaish al-Adl cell in the country. The Iranian government has accused the insurgency movement of being funded by foreign actors and of engaging in illegal smuggling operations. The deputy police chief of Sistan-Baluchestan province, Sardar Alireza Deliri, described Jaish al-Adl on Saturday as being affiliated with 'Zionists', referring to Israel. He said the three militants killed were the only ones involved in the attack and claimed they were wearing undetonated suicide belts.
