Ranking every Ravens defensive position group by chance of making the 53-man roster

As we await the arrival of training camp, we're ranking every Ravens defensive position group by chance of making Baltimore's 53-man roster Baltimore Ravens rookies are just days away from entering the Under Armour Performance Center for the start of training camp and a hopeful Super Bowl run. During free agency, the Ravens added Cooper Rush and DeAndre Hopkins to the passing game, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie on defense, and Jake Hummel to the special teams. The team is still in the midst of a Super Bowl window and has signed a talented and versatile 11-player NFL draft class, as well as 17 undrafted free agents. Baltimore GM Eric DeCosta made the most significant move of the off-season on the final day of minicamp, quietly coming to terms with Jaire Alexander on a one-year deal. With training camp set to kick off, we're ranking every Ravens defensive position group by chance of making the 53-man roster. Recap of the Ravens' major offseason additions after the first wave of free agency

Recap of the Ravens' major offseason additions after the first wave of free agency With the first wave of NFL free agency completed, we're recapping the Baltimore Ravens major off-season additions The Baltimore Ravens weren't overly active during the first few days of NFL free agency. Still, the team added a future Hall of Fame wide receiver to the passing game and a versatile linebacker to the special teams. The Ravens retained Ronnie Stanley, Patrick Ricard, and Tylan Wallace, while the restructure of Marlon Humphrey created $13 million in salary cap space. Even with the inactivity and loss of five key contributors or starters, the team is still in the midst of a Super Bowl window and has 11 2025 NFL draft picks to help restock. With the second wave of free agency underway, we're recapping the most significant additions through wave one. Signed free agent LB Jake Hummel After losing Malik Harrison and Chris Board, Baltimore landed Jake Hummel in free agency. Hummel had eight special teams tackles for the Los Angeles Rams in 2024 and blocked a punt that led to a touchdown. The 26-year-old Hummel, who played in every game for Los Angeles last season, spent three years with the Rams after being undrafted in 2022 out of Iowa State and making their 53-man roster. Hummel played 77% of the Rams' special teams snaps last season and 80% in 2023. Signed unrestricted free agent WR DeAndre Hopkins After a slow start to the legal tampering period, the Ravens are on the board after agreeing to a one-year, $6 million deal with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins, a five-time Pro Bowler, and Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson have previously discussed what it would be like to play together. Now, Hopkins gives the Ravens a dependable weapon to pair alongside Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. The future Hall of Famer has caught over 100 receptions in four seasons and compiled 984 catches for 12,965 yards and 83 touchdowns over 13 years.

Rams special teams star Jake Hummel signs with the Ravens

One of the Los Angeles Rams' top special teams contributors won't be returning to the team in 2025. Linebacker Jake Hummel signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini. Full terms of the deal were not immediately reported. It's unclear what the Ravens deal is and/or if the Rams tried to retain Hummel, but there is a connection to Baltimore. Hummel played with Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar in college at Iowa State and the two reportedly remained friends. Jake Hummel & Charlie Kolar were teammates at Iowa State. Their good buddies & Kolar actually sealed Hummel on Tylan Wallace's Punt return TD vs the Rams in 2023.😂The boys are reunited in Baltimore💜 — hezzo🧃 (@hezzosmith) March 13, 2025 Hummel, a former undrafted player in 2022, played almost exclusively on special teams over the past three seasons. He played more than 300 special teams snaps in each of the past two seasons and only combined for 117 defensive snaps over that span. The 26-year-old tallied eight special teams tackles in 2024 and blocked a punt against the Buffalo Bills in Week 14, which was returned for a touchdown by Hunter Long (who recently left for the Jaguars). The Rams will also need to figure out their linebacker issue soon, too, after losing Christian Rozeboom and Michael Hoecht in free agency.
