Why didn't Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White make an All-Defense team?
Why didn't Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White make an All-Defense team for the 2024-25 NBA season? The University of Colorado alum was a top defender on both the perimeter and at the rim, and was a key cog in one of the league's best defenses all season long on the way to the Celtics winning 61 games in the regular season. Add in the eye test, and it can be hard to understand what the logic was for leaving off White for any of the All-Defensive teams for this season, yet the Colorado native finds himself on the outside looking in. The Boston Celtics have a way to beat every team in the NBA
The Boston Celtics have a way to beat every team in the NBA The Boston Celtics have a way to beat every team in the NBA. They can play with double bigs with an oversized backcourt against teams with beefier frontcourt players and larger guards. They can play small and fast when that approach to a scoring-first lineup is the way to go to secure a win. And they have a plethora of options to attack opponents with on offense, from a slower, halfcourt style that tends to be most effective in postseason play, to a transition-heavy approach to keep pace with younger ball clubs with fewer tools to attack the Celtics with. We of course know they can also simply bury opposing teams with an attack from beyond the arc. And when it comes to defense, man-to-man can be the primary approach, as can a switching defense, zones, or pretty much anything else you can think of. The Boston Celtics might be all the way back
The Boston Celtics might be back to their usual, championship-caliber selves after a rough patch of play in the middle of the NBA's 2024-25 regular season. As might be expected from a team that just won a title, the Celtics have had a bit of a championship hangover, looking for ways to motivate their play in the middle of the season they all want to be over so they can have a crack at repeating. But in recent games, Boston has been beating a lot of quality opponents -- and have been doing so in convincing fashion as well. Have they turned the corner to begin to round into elite contender status now that they are in the home stretch of the current campaign?
