Target Confirms Launch Day Switch 2 Stock, But Prepare to Line Up Early

Just days after YouTuber Jake Randall tipped a restock of Nintendo Switch 2 at Target, the retailer has officially confirmed availability. When preorders went live for Target's online store on April 24, the stock sold out in just two hours, according to a press release. Now, a new batch of standalone Switch 2 consoles and the Switch 2 + Mario Kart bundle will be available at physical stores on June 5 and on on June 6. At select stores, Target will also create a dedicated Nintendo-themed space within the electronics section. But don't expect to just wander in. Target requests that customers line up outside local stores before business hours begin on June 5. The team at the store will distribute a limited number of tickets, either physical or digital, to reserve your purchase. When it's your turn, you'll be directed to the electronics section, where you can purchase just one item—either the standalone Switch 2 or the Mario Kart bundle. Online sales will begin early morning on June 6, and will continue until Target sells out. Target hasn't confirmed how many units it has available, but Randall's leak suggested there would be 40-60 units at each store. So, if you want one, plan to line up early. The dedicated Nintendo area in-store will also be selling additional Nintendo software, amiibo, accessories, and merchandise. The merch starts at $20, and it includes Nintendo-themed stainless steel tumblers, apparel, toys, collectibles, and more. 'At Target, we don't just launch products — we create moments,' says Cassandra Jones, Target's SVP of merchandising. 'The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated gaming releases in years, and we're making it unforgettable for our guests in a uniquely Target way.' If you can't get a Switch 2 from Target on launch day, Staples, GameStop, Best Buy, and Costco are expected to have additional stock. Also, if you have preordered a Switch 2, you need to recheck your order. Some users are seeing their purchases get canceled without reason.

Got a Nintendo Switch 2 Coming Next Week? Check Your Preorder ASAP

PCMag editors select and review products independently. If you buy through affiliate links, we may earn commissions, which help support our testing. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be in people's hands by the end of next week, but some users who thought they'd be playing Mario Kart World on June 5 are surprised to find their preorder was canceled without a clear reason why. First spotted by Vice, the Switch subreddit is full of posts from users sharing that their preorders for the console have been canceled. This happened to some users as far back as May 22, but it has continued for the last week, with more reports arriving each day. Reddit If you have a Switch 2 preordered, it's worth checking in with your chosen retailer to ensure it's still going ahead. In most of these reports, the retailer didn't contact the person who had preordered. Many people found out about the cancellation when checking their order themselves on the retailer's tracking tools. There are reports of this happening to orders from Target and Walmart. PCMag has contacted the retailers for clarification on why the cancellations are happening. A spokesperson for GameStop told PCMag, "We haven't been cancelling Nintendo Switch 2 preorders in any meaningful way." That suggests most orders at GameStop are safe from these cancelations. Some have speculated the orders were canceled because of the payment method they used, but more recent reports show that even those who paid for the console outright are also affected. It may be that the retailers overextended preorders, and Nintendo hasn't provided enough units to fulfill them. One Reddit user, Iceman_TK, shared that they spoke to Walmart customer service after spotting a cancellation and were offered a $50 gift card as compensation. If you're still looking to buy a Switch 2, you may have luck in person next week. It's thought that some retailers will have products available in stores. Earlier this week, a Reddit user who claimed to be a Target employee shared a photo of around 40 consoles ready to hit shelves. The post has since been deleted, but this matches a report from YouTuber Jake Randall, who says each Target store is set to have between 40 to 60 consoles ready to buy on launch day. Randall also said the stock will be evenly split between Mario Kart World bundles and standard editions of the console.

Target Leaves Dozens Of Switch 2 Consoles Locked In A Cage On The Store Floor

Nintendo's next big console, the Switch 2, is set to arrive on store shelves in just 10 days. So it's not surprising to see photos showing dozens of Switch 2 consoles sitting in store warehouses and back areas. However, I wasn't expecting a bunch of Switch 2 consoles to be sitting in a metal cage in the middle of a Target already. The $450 Nintendo Switch 2 launches next week on June 5. After years of rumors and leaks and more rumors, it's nearly time to actually buy one of these consoles and start playing around with $80 games like Mario Kart World. So, with launch right around the corner, the consoles themselves have to be making their way to stores in time for players to pick them up next week. Thanks to Redditors and retail employees, we now have photo evidence that Switch 2 consoles are indeed arriving at big-box stores. And apparently, at least one Target has left some Switch 2 consoles sitting in a cage in the middle of the store. On May 26, YouTuber Jake Randall posted a photo that appears to show 20 or more Switch 2 consoles sitting inside a metal cage on wheels inside a Target. Based on the items near the cage, it seems this Target has left the consoles locked up in the electronics department between some phones and TVs. This Target seems to be begging someone brave (and stupid) with wire cutters to show up and snag a few Switch 2 consoles. Or just push the whole cart, which is on wheels, out of the store. Throw on a red shirt, name badge, and khaki pants, and you might be able to pull off an Ocean's 11-like heist. Elsewhere, someone on Reddit allegedly shared some photos of Switch 2 consoles and games located in the back storage area of a Target. There are quite a few Switch 2 consoles back there, but I bet they'll be gone in minutes on June 5. Another post showed Switch 2 consoles in a metal cage, similar to the one mentioned above, but was later deleted. So yeah, Switch 2 consoles and games are now sitting inside retail stores like Target and Walmart. That means it's very likely that a few of these have probably already been swiped by people or have 'accidentally' gone missing. I wouldn't be shocked if, in the next few days or so, we see some leaked footage of Switch 2 games running on consoles that slipped out the door before June 5. . Nintendo Switch 2 already in shops ahead of incoming launch

Proof of retailers receiving Nintendo Switch 2 stock has emerged online and it wouldn't be surprising if the console leaked ahead of release. Since the proper unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 last month, Nintendo has gone all in on marketing the new console through hands-on events, developer interviews, and advertisements on its Nintendo Today! app. That's not enough for the most avid fans though, who are hungry for more glimpses of the new hardware, as its launch date inches ever nearer. We're talking about the kind of fans who started queuing up to buy one in early April. Now, fans have leapt onto a photo of a shipment of consoles that recently arrived at US retailer Target, further reinforcing how close the Switch 2 is to be released. The photo was taken by someone claiming to be a Target employee, who shared it on Reddit. Although it only shows featureless cardboard boxes in a cage, they said the store had received 40 units; a 50:50 split between the Switch 2 on its own and the Mario Kart World bundle. They shared a second photo to prove the boxes did contain Switch 2s, but both pics have since been deleted, along with the poster's Reddit account. Probably because snapping pics of stock before it's gone on the shelves would have, or already has, landed them in trouble. Unsurprisingly, at least one of the photos can still be found on X, with YouTuber Jake Randall sharing their own photo of Switch 2 stock he spotted at a Target store. Surprisingly, some of the Switch 2 boxes weren't sealed in a separate cardboard box to hide what they are and while the stock was secured in a cage, the cage was left on the shop floor, which is why Randall was able to grab a picture. Target stores are receiving their Switch 2 stock and apparently as long as it's locked in a cage they don't mind leaving it in the middle of the floor! 🤣 — Jake Randall (@Jake_Randall_YT) May 26, 2025 We've already seen a few people crack jokes about stealing one, but you know someone has genuinely considered it. However, they're unlikely to work well out of the box, as the console is expected to have a large day one patch, just like the Wii U did, and it probably won't work online at all at launch. Nevertheless, knowing what people are like, it wouldn't be shocking if the Switch 2 broke its street date and people began sharing pictures and videos of it earlier than they should. That would be in keeping with how the Switch 2 has been handled. While rumours of a Switch successor had made rounds for years, genuine leaks ratcheted up towards the end of 2024. By the time Nintendo formally showed the console off in January, its design was already widely known, with accessory company Genki showing off a 3D replica of the Switch 2 beforehand. More Trending That's, unsurprisingly, come back to bite Genki since Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing it of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising. Even without the photos, though, it was safe to assume retailers would be receiving Switch 2 stock this week, since the console launches next Thursday on June 5. Stock is almost certainly already in the UK but Nintendo tried to get as much into the US as possible early on, so it would arrive before Trump started imposing tariffs. So far, though, the signs are that most countries will have plenty of stock, although pre-orders did sell out in Japan, with Nintendo issuing an apology for failing to meet demand. Target tipped for huge Nintendo Switch 2 restock on launch day — but there's a catch

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders kicked off last month (after an unexpected delay), and the hybrid console is on course to be one of the year's hottest tech items. Getting hold of a Switch 2 pre-order has proven tricky with all major retailers selling out of inventory in minutes, and only sporadic restocks for those who missed out in the initial wave. However, all hope is not lost, as Target may be gearing up to offer a huge restock at launch. According to Jake Randall, a very reliable (and extremely friendly) stock tracker, Target will hold a Nintendo Switch 2 restock on launch day, June 5. Randall claims this restock is '100% guaranteed,' and while the YouTuber has a strong track record of reliable information, until Target itself confirms, I would advise a degree of caution. Nevertheless, Randall's tip-off is certainly not one to be ignored. Per Randall's reporting, Target will offer stock of the standalone Nintendo Switch 2 console for $449 and the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle for $499 on launch day. I recommend opting for the Mario Kart World bundle, as you're getting a Switch 2 console alongside the most high-profile launch game, and saving $30 compared to purchasing the hardware and software separately. One of the key pieces of information Randall offers about this Target restock is that it will be in-store only. There will be no opportunities to purchase the Switch 2 online from Target on launch day. However, Randall does suggest that Target may restock online on Friday, June 6. This won't be a midnight restock either. According to Randall's sources within the retailer, this Target in-store restock will begin at local opening hours rather than in the early hours of the morning. Randall suggests that each Target store will have between 40 and 60 units, with a roughly 50/50 split between the standalone Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World Bundle. However, he does note that 'some stores will have more, some will have less,' so your mileage is likely to vary based on your nearest Target location. Assuming this restock does come to fruition, and again based on Randall's track record of accurate information, I'd certainly be confident in suggesting it will, the odds are you'll want to arrive at your nearest Target store well in advance of opening time on launch day. The Switch 2 is going to be one of the best-selling tech items of 2025 (maybe the best-selling tech item, full stop), so gamers (and unfortunately, probably some resellers) are likely to flock to Target locations on June 5 in the hopes of getting their hands on a console. Fortunately, Target will not be the only game in town on Switch 2 launch day. GameStop and Best Buy will also be restocking Switch 2, though these will require you to miss some sleep, as both retailers are holding midnight launches.
