Nagara Panchami celebrated with pomp and gaiety in coastal belt
Nagara Panchami was celebrated with pomp and gaiety across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday. Devotees thronged Kukke Subrahmanya temple in Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kannada and Kudupu Ananthapadmanabha temple in Mangaluru, well known places for serpent worship, in large numbers. After the Maha Pooja at the main temple in Kukke Subrahmanya in the noon, priests performed Panchamrutha abhishekha, Ksheerabhishekha, Jalabhisheka, and Seeyalabhishekha, and special pujas in the Nagaprathistha Mantapa. Earlier in the morning, prasanna pooja and special panchamrutha abhishekha were performed at the main temple. People offered 'tanu' to the Serpent God at the Nagaprathistha Mantapa. Devotees in large numbers offered tender coconuts to the Serpent God at Kudupu Ananthapadmanabha temple. Nagara Panchami was also celebrated in Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi. Elsewhere in the twin districts, people offered milk and tender coconuts to the Serpent God in many temples and 'naga banas'.
