One of the earliest success stories in sports video games came from a company called Jaleco, which produced a wide variety of sports games for the NES, SNES, and beyond. Now, some of its best games are coming back to modern platforms — and you can play them soon.

Jaleco Sports: Goal! features two games in Jaleco's Goal! series, the first Goal! game for the NES and its sequel, also called Goal! (or Super Goal! in Europe), for the SNES. The title will be released on both Steam and GOG on PC tomorrow, with a PS5 and Nintendo Switch version coming later this summer.
Goal! was lauded upon its release in 1989 as one of the most realistic and advanced soccer games of its time, featuring 16 international teams and 8 US teams and proper tournaments to compete in, as well as an arcade-style Shootout mode. Its SNES sequel was even better, adding a side-scrolling field, 24 international teams, instant replays, strategic options, and much more.
"Jaleco Sports: Goal! is the second in a series of great sports games from the extensive Jaleco Sports catalog," Rock It Games CEO and managing partner Michael Devine said in a press release. "These 8- and 16-bit games, now enhanced with modern features, absolutely deserve their place on today's platforms — so fans can enjoy them for generations to come."
Jaleco Sports: Goal! will feature a host of modern features, such as the option to rewind to take another shot at the goal, a toggle between modern and retro CRT-style display options, and the option to use Remote Play to play together with friends online. It also features all regional variants of both games, as well as digitized game manuals in English, French, Dutch, German, Spanish, and Japanese.
It comes as part of efforts from Rock It Games to resurrect Jaleco's library of classic sports games. Those efforts started with Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded, which was released earlier this year, and will continue well beyond Goal!, with Rock It Games intending to resurrect the entire library of classic Jaleco sports titles.
Jaleco Sports: Goal! will launch tomorrow on Steam and GOG with a 21% discount — just $10.39. Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded will also receive the same discount on Steam and GOG to celebrate the new launch, going for just $10.26.
