Dolphins to sign RB Aaron Shampklin

The Dolphins are adding running back Aaron Shampklin to their roster. Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the team will sign Shampklin after working him out on Monday. They also worked out former Packers and Saints running back Jamaal Williams. The move comes after the Dolphins lost Alexander Mattison for the season with a neck injury. De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and sixth-round pick Ollie Gordon are their other backs. Shampklin ran six times for 17 yards in three games for the Steelers last season. He also worked out for the Bears and Jets recently, but his bid for more regular season action will unfold in Miami.

Dolphins running back out for season after neck surgery; team works out veteran ball carrier

Miami Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison will miss the entirety of the 2025 NFL season due to a scary neck injury the veteran suffered against the Chicago Bears in the team's first preseason contest on Sunday. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mattison underwent emergency surgery yesterday following the game. As a result of the season-ending injury, the Dolphins are reportedly working out 30-year-old veteran tailback Jamaal Williams — formerly of the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints. Williams, a physical power back, led the league in rushing scores in 2022 — reaching the endzone a whopping 17 times. He parlayed that season into a 3-year, $12 million deal with the Saints, but failed to live up to his contract in New Orleans — tallying just 470 yards rushing and two touchdowns in two seasons with the club. We will continue to monitor the running back situation in Miami and update all of our readers with more information as it becomes available.

Dolphins bring in 2022 NFL rushing touchdowns leader for visit

The Miami Dolphins brought in free agent running back Jamaal Williams for a workout Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Williams, 30, led the NFL in rushing touchdowns in 2022 with 17 and became the first Detroit Lions running back in nearly a decade to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season. But after parlaying that success into a three-year, $12 million deal with the New Orleans Saints in free agency, Williams struggled to produce with his new squad. In the last two seasons, Williams recorded only 470 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 3.1 yards per carry. But the 224-pound power back could be a logical fit for the Dolphins, who are still struggling to get the job done in short-yardage situations. During a preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, three straight Jaylen Wright runs near the goal line were stuffed, resulting in a turnover on downs. Ollie Gordon II and Alexander Mattison found more success in those situations, but the latter suffered an injury after landing on his head. Williams worked out for the Bears a day prior to the Sunday preseason matchup. This article originally appeared on Dolphins Wire: Dolphins bring in former Lions, Saints RB Jamaal Williams for visit

Bears work out RB Jamaal Williams

The Chicago Bears could be interested in adding to their running back room and are looking at someone who is very familiar with the coaching staff. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears brought in veteran running back Jamaal Williams for a workout on Saturday. Williams is one of the more notable running backs who is still available and has familiarity with the Bears' coaching staff. After breaking in with the Green Bay Packers in 2017 and serving as a backup to Aaron Jones, Williams had the best seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions when he signed there in 2021, splitting time with D'Andre Swift, who now plays for the Bears. His career year came in 2022 when he rushed for 1,066 yards and led the league with 17 touchdowns while playing under Ben Johnson. Following that season, Williams signed a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints and coach Dennis Allen, now the Bears' defensive coordinator. Williams didn't enjoy the same type of success he had in Detroit and totaled just 470 rushing yards and two touchdowns in two seasons. He was released earlier this offseason. Williams was effective with Swift and Johnson, and a reunion could be in the works. The Bears are still searching for a goal-line running back, and Williams fits the mold. He's a player who has long been connected to the Bears ever since Johnson became the head coach. We'll see if a deal winds up happening. BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff is anticipating a seven-game suspension from the school for an honor code violation in the wake of a sexual assault allegation against him, the Salt Lake Tribune reports. Advertisement Per ESPN's Pete Thamel, Retzlaff intends to transfer in anticipation of the suspension. Retzlaff is a graduate student and has a single year of eligibility remaining. Retzlaff has denied the allegation that was made in a lawsuit filed in May. He contends that he had consensual sex with his accuser, which appears to the the reason that he's facing a suspension from BYU, rather than the sexual assault allegation. Per the SLT, engaging in consensual premarital sex is a violation of the honor code at BYU, which is run by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Students at BYU are subject to a strict honor code that prohibits premarital sex and instructs students to 'live a chaste and virtuous life." Retzlaff is not Mormon, but the honor code rules apply to all BYU students. Other BYU athletes have faced lengthy honor code suspensions, including NFL running back Jamaal Williams, who missed the entire 2015 season when he was at BYU. Williams said said he told the Green Bay Packers in his pre-draft interview that "I had a girl in my room" when asked about why he missed 2015. What Retzlaff is accused of A Salt Lake County woman referred to as Jane Doe A.G. accused Retzlaff of sexual assault in a lawsuit that was filed in May. Per the lawsuit, Retzlaff's accuser alleges that Retzlaff sexually assaulted her in 2023 in his home. The lawsuit states that she consented to kissing while in Retzlaff's room but "did not want to do anything more." She accuses Retzlaff of forcibly raping her after she repeatedly told him "no" and to "stop." Advertisement Per the lawsuit, Retzlaff's accuser reported the alleged sexual assault to police and underwent a rape kit. According to the lawsuit, she did not initially identify Retzlaff to police. Retzlaff does not face criminal charges. The lawsuit seeks damages of at least $300,000 for alleged battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Retzlaff denied that he assaulted his accuser in a legal response filed Friday in Utah's 3rd District Court. He acknowledges that he had sex with his accuser as part of a 'normal evening of consensual sexual interaction.' His filing alleges that the accuser intends to "extort money from him" now that he's an NFL prospect. News of Retzlaff's pending suspension arrives two days after he issued his court filing stating that he engaged in consensual sex. Retzlaff transferred to BYU from Riverside City College in 2023 and was BYU's starting quarterback in 2024. He led the Cougars to an 11-2 season that concluded with an Alamo Bowl victory over Colorado. Retzlaff completed 57.9% of his passes for 2,947 yards (226.7 yards per game) on 8 yards per attempt with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
