Tresind Studio Dubai's three Michelin stars are a 'wake-up call for Indian chefs'

Dubai restaurant Tresind Studio's three-star Michelin rating should serve as a 'wake-up call for Indian chefs' around the world, according to Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide. 'It will be a matter of national pride. And a lot more people will now be willing to explore Indian food cultures. I say cultures because it is a subcontinent with a lot of diversity,' he said. Calling Tresind Studio chef Himanshu Saini a 'pioneer', Poullennec praised him for pushing culinary boundaries. 'Himanshu Saini and all the team members have been putting Indian food on the world culinary map. I think he has opened the floor for many more talents to join the industry in India,' he said. Poullennec was in the UAE on Thursday night at the launch of the 2025 Michelin Guide Dubai where, for the first time since Michelin came to the UAE in 2022, two restaurants earned the coveted three stars – Tresind Studio, which earned its first star in 2022, and European eatery FZN by Bjorn Frantzen. The lauded Michelin Guide has been turned to for more than 100 years, directing diners and gastro-tourists to the finest restaurants in destinations around the world. Poullenec called the three-star honour 'an extraordinary achievement'. 'There are just about 140 restaurants with three stars worldwide – so it's the creme de la creme of world gastronomy,' he said. Another Indian restaurant also made it to the Dubai list, London import Jamavar, which earned one Michelin star. Thai restaurant Manao, whose head chef Abhiraj Khatwani is Indian, also got one star. They are among the 14 restaurants with a star each in Dubai, and join three restaurants that retained their two stars from last year – Jason Atherton's Row on 45, Il Ristorante – Niko Romito and Stay by Yannick Alleno. Five new venues were also added to the Bib Gourmand category – which recognises 'just-as-esteemed and friendly' establishments that serve good food at reasonable rates – bringing the total number of restaurants in that category to 22. To make it to the guide, anonymous food inspectors visit restaurants, and apply the same five criteria around the world – quality of ingredients; mastery of cooking techniques; harmony of flavours; expression of the chef's personality in the cuisine; and consistency, both over time and across the menu. Speaking at the event, Poullennec said Dubai has emerged as 'a real gastronomic hub in just a few years'. 'It is definitely one of the frontrunners on the global culinary stage. If you go around Dubai, you will be able to get a taste of the world. You will be able to travel just by visiting the restaurants.'

This Indian Restaurant In Dubai Was Just Awarded A 3rd Michelin Star

An Indian restaurant in Dubai has just won what is considered the highest honour in the culinary world. Tresind Studio, helmed by Chef Himanshu Saini, has been awarded a third Michelin Star. This is a historic win as it is the first ever Indian food establishment to be given this coveted accolade. Over the years, one and two Michelin stars have been bestowed on Indian restaurants abroad (There is no Indian edition of the Michelin Guide, so domestic restaurants cannot win). However, till now, none had received the third star, which signifies "Exceptional cuisine" and the highest standards. Tresind Studio's win was announced at the fourth edition of the MICHELIN Guide Dubai, which took place on May 22, 2025. It is one of only two restaurants in Dubai that have been awarded three Michelin stars. FZN by Bjorn Frantzen is the other winner of this accolade. The Dubai outpost of Jamavar, which is a celebrated Indian restaurant, has been given a single Michelin star this year. View this post on Instagram A post shared by MICHELIN Guide (official) (@michelinguide) More About Tresind Studio Tresind Studio serves a multi-course tasting menu spotlighting seasonal ingredients and flavours from across India. Chef Himanshu Saini opened Tresind Studio in 2018, conceptualised as a more experimental version of the earlier Tresind. It was later moved to a separate premises, which is its current 20-seater rooftop space at The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. It received its second Michelin star in 2023. The Michelin Guide notes, "This immersive Indian concept highlights Chef Himanshu Saini's limitless levels of imagination and creativity. The tasting menu showcases traditional Indian dishes from various regions, re-imagined and superbly crafted into vibrant, eye-catching, and flavoursome creations." Over the years, Tresind Studio has won several international culinary accolades. Most recently, it was named the 2nd best restaurant in the Middle East and North Africa by the World's 50 Best rankings. The same organisation has featured Tresind Studio among the top 50 restaurants worldwide multiple times. Click here to find out more.

Review: This Dubai restaurant's Indian brunch is a fine dining bargain

One of Dubai's best hacks for saving money is to seek out quality lunch menus. Select wisely, and it means you can dine at world-class restaurants for modest prices, without compromising on quality. Jamavar's Royal Brunch might just offer the best case study in town right now. Imported from its Michelin-starred Mayfair London branch, Jamavar opened in August last year. It sits in the Address Residences Opera District, and is the third of its international outposts (the originals being in India). I arrive to an empty venue on a sunny Saturday afternoon (its runs from 12.30pm to 4pm at weekends). Four giant, crystal chandeliers hang above us with large (like, massive) artwork towering over diners at either side of the room. It's fancy but cosy, with dark furniture and cream chairs. Friendly staff hand me a menu, and the price needs to be seen to be believed. For Dhs395, you can work your way through a Starter, South Indian Sampler, Main and a Dessert. All this comes with unlimited drinks, too, spread across cocktails, wines, beer and spirits. The non-alcoholic options costs Dhs295. Karare Aloo Chat at Jamavar Dubai My two friends and I start with the Panipuri, Bambaiya Bhelpuri and Karare Aloo Chat. Of these, the latter steals the show. Cool yoghurt smooths over the potato tikki, with spiced white peas and mint chutney. The waiter fills my glass without me even asking, in my case a glass of the Chenin Blanc, Simonsig Stellenbosch. Up next, we share everything on the South Indian Sampler menu. The eye-catcher here is the Butter Sada Dosa, a tent-shaped crepe with VIP access to your Instagram story, served with chutneys and bites. This is where value for money really comes in, because we haven't even reached our Mains yet and we're close to full already. If, like us, you have room then great. But if it's a light lunch you're after, with one eye on dinner later, then this is a place to swerve. Anyway, there's only one dish three Brits could possibly order which is the Butter Chicken (they didn't have Vindaloo). My experience of Butter Chicken has mostly been consigned to the boxes of a takeaway in my native England (I'm sorry, that is changing), but here lies an outstanding example of why fine dining Indian really is worth paying for. The Butter Sada Dosa will make its way straight to your Insta story By now, it's time for dessert, the Rhubarb Chuski Falooda, but not after leaning back in my chair for a good few minutes to savor the splendid variety of flavours that leave me feeling like I won't need to eat for the rest of the weekend. The verdict Given Jamavar hails from Michelin history, has an interior that rivals any swanky restuarant and offers fine dining food (and lots of it) at just Dhs395 with unlimited drinks, this has to be one of the best value lunch deals in the city right now.
