Newcastle United seek a win that would all but guarantee a place in next season's UEFA Champions League when they close their Premier League slate with a visit from Everton at St. James' Park on Sunday. When we say "all but guarantee," a Newcastle win would give them 69 points and ensure they'd finish the season with at-worst the fourth-best point total. Their +22 goal differential would be at least +23. Advertisement WATCH — Newcastle v Everton Chelsea and Aston Villa could also reach 69 points with Week 38 wins, but the Blues would have to beat Nottingham Forest by three more goals than Newcastle's margin of victory over Everton. Aston Villa would also have to beat Manchester United by — looks at table — 14 more goals than the Magpies' winning advantage. There are some old rivals on the other side, where former Sunderland boss David Moyes and fellow Black Cats export Jordan Pickford will be fueled up to spoil the Magpies' plans. Everton will finish 13th on the Premier League table regardless of the outcome, and will not have James Tarkowski and could also be missing Jarrad Branthwaite. Goodison Park is unique and beautiful, you will never find a ground like this again... says lifelong Everton fan

This place means everything to us. I first came to Goodison Park in 1979 with my dad and I come now with my brothers and our families. He passed Everton on to us and we've passed it on to the next generation. This place brings the family together and brings friends together. We've come here every two weeks for decades and I can assure you that you will never find a football ground like this again. It's unique and beautiful. There's a reason why we call her the 'Grand Old Lady' because it's everything a football ground should be. I know everybody says it, but my favourite memory was that night against Bayern Munich in 1985, when the Gwladys Street stand literally sucked the ball into the net. Nights like those showed you the power of Goodison and even this season, in the draw with Liverpool when James Tarkowski scored a late equaliser, it was a reminder of what we are capable of. Of course, we are all emotional. I cried three times before and during the game and I'm sure I'll cry again, because this place is a part of my life, where so many memories have been made. If you're not a football fan, you'll never understand it. My dad taught us to support Everton, but it wasn't just that. It's about values and principles and looking after one another. It's up to each of us now to make sure we don't lose any of our tradition and passion with the move. We must take everything out of here, bottle it and take it to the Mersey, because it's time for Everton to move forward.

Everton vs Southampton – Predicted lineup and team news

Everton take on Southampton in the Premier League today in the final fixture at Goodison Park. The Toffees wave farewell to the famous ground this afternoon, before their move to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. Everton leave Goodison Park after 133 years, though the club have announced the ground will become the permanent home of their women's side in 2025/26. The last dance. 😢#EVESOU — Everton (@Everton) May 18, 2025 David Moyes will be determined to lead his side to victory on what will be an emotional occasion for the Blues. Already-relegated Southampton are perhaps the perfect opponent for the send-off. The Saints were relegated with a record seven games to spare last month. However, Southampton earned a goalless draw with Manchester City last weekend, avoiding joining 2007/08 Derby County as the team with the lowest-ever Premier League points total. David Moyes continues to be without James Tarkowski, whose season is over due to a hamstring injury. Fellow defender Jake O'Brien missed last weekend's win at Fulham, though replacement Michael Keane scored in that victory in West London. Orel Mangala and Jesper Lindstrom also remain sidelined, with the injured loanees likely to have played their last games for Everton. Moyes may opt to hand Seamus Coleman some minutes in what could be the club captain's final home game for the Toffees, after 427 appearances. Everton predicted XI: Pickford; Young, Keane, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Alcaraz, Gueye, Garner, Doucoure, McNeil; Beto Everton host Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday May 18th 2025. Sky Sports are forced to apologise after broadcasting Everton legend Peter Reid's x-rated description of James Tarkowski's late Merseyside derby equaliser

Sky Sports have been forced to apologise after broadcasting Everton legend Peter Reid dropping the 'f' bomb during a pre-recorded tribute show to Goodison Park. The club's former midfielder and captain was recalling James Tarkowski's dramatic late goal to salvage a draw in the final Merseyside derby to be played at the stadium before it closes at the end of this season. Tarkowski's thundering late strike was subject to a VAR check. 'Someone said you had two chances (to celebrate),' said Reid, in the Goodbye Goodison show on Sky Sports News. 'You could celebrate there and then four minutes later you had the celebration. I said: 'Yes, but what about the f***ing three heart attacks I had in-between?! 'I'm sorry about my French!' Within minutes a message reading: 'We apologise for any bad language broadcast' appeared on the yellow ticker.
