Giant gun names new Super Netball home move for love
The Melbourne Mavericks have confirmed the signing of star Diamonds midcourter Jamie-Lee Price, who joins the Victorian Super Netball club from the Giants. The newest Super side locked in Price after she announced her plans to move from Sydney to Melbourne to be with her partner, Collingwood AFL player Harry Perryman. The departure is a blow for the Giants, with former co-captain Price winning their past three player-of-the-year gongs. The 29-year-old, known for her physicality, has been a regular in the Australian squad for the past eight years, part of the line-up that won the last World Cup in Cape Town in 2023. Price said she already felt at home with the Mavericks, linking up with former Giant and now Melbourne skipper Amy Parmenter. "I have been so warmly welcomed by the Mavs already," Price said in a statement on Monday. "The work this group has achieved in their first two years as a brand new club has been truly remarkable, and I feel super honoured to be able to become part of it. "Hopefully we can continue to build and continue to become a force to be reckoned with in 2026 and beyond." Mavs general manager Shae Bolton-Brown said the club, which finished second last in their second season, were determined not to miss out on signing Price once they heard she was moving south. "When we heard that Jamie-Lee was keen to move to Melbourne, we knew this was a signature we had to get," Bolton-Brown said. "Obviously she is a world-class talent, but with a relatively young squad we think her leadership on and off the court is a really valuable asset as well.'' Price is the sixth player the Mavs have confirmed on their 2026 roster, alongside ex-Lightning shooter Reilley Batcheldor, Kim Brown, Shimona Jok, Molly Jovic and Parmenter. Goaler Sasha Glasgow, who returned after a horror leg break, is set for a fresh start, the club confirming she was on the move. In other signing news, the Giants have secured dual premiership player Lucy Austin for 2026, the shooter shifting from the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Mavs joins Vixens on hunt for new Super Netball coach
Melbourne Mavericks are on the hunt for a new Super Netball coach after Tracey Neville's announcement she intends to return home to England. In their second season in the competition, the Mavericks finished second last on the ladder, with four wins, but are tipped to be bolstered by star Jamie-Lee Price. The star Diamonds midcourter has quit the Giants and is relocating to Melbourne to join her Collingwood AFL-playing partner Harry Perryman. With the 2025 champion Melbourne Vixens already re-signing their grand final squad, it's now likely Price will link with her former Giants teammate Amy Parmenter, who captains the Mavs. The newcomers have also lost defender Olivia Lewis has announced she will not be returning to the Mavericks, as she intends to pursue a career in Neville, who coached England to a Commonwealth Games gold medal, informed the club that she won't look to renew her contract for a third season in 2026. "It has been a whirlwind two years and I've really enjoyed establishing this program from then ground up and setting it up for the years ahead," Neville said in a statement. "I've done everything I can to establish the foundation at this club but after long discussions with the franchise, it became apparent it was the right time for me to move on." The Vixens are set to announce their new coach in the coming weeks after Simone McKinnis declared her intentions back in round six. They announced on Wednesday that they had locked in their entire 2026 squad, with captain Kate Moloney and star defenders Jo Weston and Kate Eddy, completing the roster. Defender Emily Mannix, who sat out the 2025 season following the birth of her daughter Mabel in January, returns in the only change to the team that claimed a thrilling one-goal grand final win. In other signing news, Thunderbirds goaler Lucy Austin is on the move after turning down a contract to remain in Adelaide for the 2026 season. Austin advised the club that after three seasons she'll be taking up an opportunity to play elsewhere in 2026, although where that is hasn't been made public. South African Sanmarie Visser is also departing the T-Birds after covering the pregnant Shamera Sterling Humphrey, who is returning to play. Record start continues for Super Netball pacesetters
The NSW Swifts have survived a first-half scare in their Sydney derby clash with the Giants before extending their record-setting start to the Super Netball season. Sunday's contest at Ken Rosewall Arena drew together two teams at different ends of the ladder, but the Giants threw everything they had at their unbeaten rivals before falling to an 82-69 defeat. While the Swifts remain unbeaten after six rounds - continuing their best start to a season - the Giants remain at the bottom of the ladder with just one win. The Swifts got off to a sluggish start that has typified their recent matches. They still managed to hold a three-goal lead at the main break after a feisty first half featuring a physical battle between Swifts centre Paige Hadley and her Giants counterpart and fellow Diamond Jamie-Lee Price. But the third quarter proved crucial as the competition front-runners streaked away with the match, extending their lead to 60-48 with sharp-shooter Grace Nweke almost unstoppable. Down the other end, Swifts keeper Teigan O'Shannassy also kept a tight lid on the Giants and was named player of the match. The Giants lost Jo Harten with a mystery injury. The veteran shooter made her way off court and down the tunnel midway through the third quarter and was unable to return. Harten had been in blistering form, with 25 goals from 25 attempts and two from four from the two-point range. Matisse Leatherbarrow took over the GS bib and was also on target with 16 goals from 19 attempts, including five super shots. The Giants tried to claw their way back into the match in the final term but the deficit proved too much, with the Swifts' Kiwi ace Nweke finishing with a mammoth haul of 64 goals from 67 attempts. Briony Akle's troops extended their dominance over the Giants, now winning their past six clashes. "We wanted to start each quarter hard, we wanted to come out and lay a mark and I think we did that," said ex-Giant O'Shannassy. "We got told by Briony to go out and do what we do best, individually and as a team, and getting that freedom from the coach is something that lifts everyone up. "It's the battle of NSW and no matter where they (Giants) are on the ladder they bring out the best in us and no matter where we are in the ladder it's always going to be a great game."
