Former McDonald's employee reveals ‘incredible' secret menu hack most customers don't even know about

He's lovin' it. An ex-McDonald's employee revealed a secret menu item — and what not to do to avoid pissing off the fast food chain's employees. During Jamie Calder's one year working at Mickey D's — he discovered that the seasoning the fast food giant puts on its burgers is also delicious on other food items. 'The seasoning for the burger patties is incredible on nuggets or Chicken Selects,' he told NeedToKnow. 3 The ex-employee said the burger seasoning, on other food items such as nuggets, is superb. Jam Press 'If it's quiet enough not to be an annoying request, I would highly recommend [asking for it].' Ordering ahead on the app is another helpful hack shared by Calder that can save you both time and money. '[And if you order on the app to collect, you can usually save some time as they'll start preparing your order before you get to the restaurant (as long as you check in when nearby),' he told the outlet. 3 Calder worked at the fast food giant for a year. Jam Press/Jamie Calder Now, before you go wild with your app ordering or special requests — there are specific customer behaviors that easily piss off employees, according to Calder. '[My biggest pet peeve is someone] ordering 'no salt' fries (just to get fresh ones),' the ex-employee told NeedToKnow. '[We'll be] in a rhythm of stacking fries and then have to wipe all the salt off the fry station and fry a new portion just for a customer who is [probably] going to dump two packs of salt on them as soon as you hand them.' 'It ruins the flow and slows down the process,' he admitted. 3 He said some of his pet peeves as an employee were fry requests and rowdy young customers. Jam Press/Jamie Calder Aside from this annoying ask — rambunctious youngsters also cause workers to roll their eyes while on the job. 'The worst 'customers' are the school-age kids who cause havoc in the dining area. Spraying water guns at customers and tossing tubs of sauce everywhere,' Calder explained. 'The worst [experience I've had] was when someone blocked the bathroom sink with a plastic bag and flooded the bathroom.' Maybe one of the reasons why customers get rowdy at Mickey D's is because of their late-night hours. The majority of U.S. locations stay open until midnight or later in the summer, a company spokesperson told the Independent. While many of the Golden Arches locations in the country follow this rule, non-traditional restaurants such as the ones in airports or malls are exempt from this change and reopen during normal breakfast hours.'

More info A former McDonald's employee has spilled the beans on a nifty trick to jazz up your chicken meal. Jamie Calder, 20, who clocked in at the fast-food behemoth for just over a year, has some insider advice for nugget and chicken selects aficionados. During his stint, he picked up a few hacks that he reckons punters should be privy to when they're ordering their grub. For those partial to a chicken nugget or select, Jamie suggests a dash of the burger patty seasoning could elevate your meal to new heights, as he revealed to NeedToKnow. "The seasoning for the burger patties is incredible on nuggets or chicken selects," he divulged, adding that if the joint isn't too hectic, it's well worth popping the question. However, Jamie isn't keen on customers asking for salt-free fries, which are typically served pre-salted, reports the Mirror. He explained that such a request can throw a spanner in the works, disrupting the crew's slick routine. "[We'll be] in a rhythm of stacking fries and then have to wipe all the salt off the fry station and fry a new portion just for a customer, who is [probably] going to dump two packs of salt on them as soon as you hand them. It ruins the flow and slows down the process." Jamie also dished out a savvy tip for using the restaurant's app to order your feast. "And if you order on the app to collect, you can usually save some time as they'll start preparing your order before you get to the restaurant (as long as you check in when nearby)," he imparted. The student, who studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, also divulged what various sounds from the kitchen signify. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages "The infamous McDonald's beeping originates from virtually every machine in the kitchen," he added. "Different beeps indicate when you receive an order, when chips are half-cooked or fully cooked, for the grills, fryers, drive-through, etc - everything beeps and it's a nightmare. Moreover, Jamie revealed which customers he considers to be the worst, based on his experience." The worst customers are the school-age children who wreak havoc in the dining area," he asserted." Spraying water pistols at customers and flinging tubs of sauce everywhere. "The worst [experience I've had] was when someone blocked the bathroom sink with a plastic bag and flooded the bathroom." Jamie's insights follow another McDonald's employee's revelation about three aspects of the restaurant's drive-thru process. TikTok user @charlton.a claims that ordering at the drive-thru is not as private as one might think. According to him, those working in that area can "hear everything" customers are saying "even when our mic is off". He further stated that cameras also take "mugshot photos" of those ordering food, so they know which order belongs to whom. Additionally, the McDonald's worker alleged that customers can order a recipe book, although another employee said they didn't have these at a different store.
