Escaped fugitive arrested in Lee County after two-hour crisis negotiation
A wanted fugitive who escaped jail more than a week ago has been found in North Fort Myers.
Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies found Jamie Jenks, 33, of North Fort Myers, Monday morning, August 11. He had escaped a St. Petersburg correctional facility on August 3.
Jenks barricaded himself in an apartment on the 1330 block of Lavin Lane, where crisis negotiators and the LCSO Special Operations Unit worked for two hours to ensure the situation ended safely, deputies said.
Jenks surrendered peacefully, they said.
Deputies said Jenks has an extensive criminal history, with multiple arrests ranging in charges from fraud to felony larceny.
At the time of his escape, he was serving a two-year sentence for theft.
This is an ongoing investigation.
