Maria Shriver reveals how getting fired from CBS was the 'wake-up call' she desperately needed

Maria Shriver has reflected on the impact of her shock firing after her entire show was axed. She was anchoring CBS Morning News - pouring in early-morning energy, and, as she candidly admits, more emotion than she should have been giving to a job. On the latest episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Shriver explained that she had convinced herself the program was her 'family,' a word she now laughs at because the feeling was seemingly not mutual. When CBS pulled the plug, she felt blindsided and instantly untethered. 'It helped me realize, oh wait a minute, this is not my family. 'This place can throw me out in a second,' she told host Jamie Kern Lima. That sting, she says, was the moment her real education began. Shriver had grown up in a mission-driven Kennedy household where love sounded like 'good job - now what's next?' and nobody paused to discuss feelings. In fact, she admitted that growing up, she and her family never said 'I love you' to each other. So, as an adult, she translated approval into achievement and naturally treated the newsroom like Thanksgiving dinner. Losing the job forced her to redraw the boundary between who she is and what she does for a living. 'Had I not been fired, I probably wouldn't have had that wake-up call,' she admitted. In practical terms, the lesson was simple: a boss can like your work, but a job can't love you back. Emotionally, it was bigger. She realized she had to build the family atmosphere she craved at home, not at the anchor desk. That's why her four grown kids now hear 'I love you' on repeat - a conscious reversal of the stoic upbringing she once knew. They tease her for being strict and beg her to slow down, but they never question her affection. Looking back, she's grateful the cancellation came early, before her identity totally revolved around a corporate brand. It taught her to keep work in perspective, to measure self-worth in something sturdier than ratings. It also set the stage for future pivots - from NBC correspondent to California's First Lady to Alzheimer's advocate - none of which, she notes, define her entire being. Today, she coaches younger journalists to invest passion in their craft but loyalty in the people who'll still be there after the credits roll. 'So I need to think about my family, my real family,' she said. 'I think I need to think about my real life and put this part of my life in perspective.'

Duchess Meghan Appears Without Makeup and in Sweatpants

Duchess Meghan recently appeared on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show' podcast, where she chatted with the host about various topics. What made her appearance special was that Meghan was completely without makeup and dressed in a tracksuit. Entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima is not only the co-founder of the cosmetics brand It Cosmetics, which was sold to L'Oréal in 2016, but she was also included in Forbes' 'America's Richest Self-Made Women' list in 2017. In addition to her business ventures, she hosts her own podcast and recently had Duchess Meghan as a guest. Not only was it Meghan's first podcast interview, but she also appeared completely without makeup. Here's the story behind it. In an Instagram post, Jamie Kern Lima announced the podcast interview with the Duchess and expressed her excitement: 'Meghan opens up like never before and shares real, unfiltered, and touching stories, insights, and inspirations. I've never cried so much in an interview — and in the best way possible!' Kern Lima writes on Instagram. The two women sit together in casual clothing, wearing no makeup, and have made themselves comfortable in rocking chairs. Kern Lima explains the reasoning: 'She and I decided to do the episode the way we spend most of our time together — makeup-free, in our sweatpants, and cozy in these two rocking chairs I have at home.' The decision to conduct the interview without makeup proves to be the right one, especially when Duchess Meghan sheds her first tears while speaking lovingly about her children, Archie and Lilibet. 'That's why it's so nice not to wear makeup,' the 43-year-old says with a laugh. But Meghan is not only without makeup; she has also chosen a very casual outfit. The Duchess wears black, loose-fitting sweatpants without cuffs at the hem, a matching black sweatshirt, and white sneakers. Her hair is styled in soft waves, and she forgoes noticeable accessories. The honest, straightforward, and natural interview is well-received by social media users. One user comments, 'You both look naturally fantastic.' Another says, 'Meghan is so inspiring.' Others are thrilled to see a natural and makeup-free Meghan: 'Looks like a great interview where she can just be herself. I can't wait to see it!' Meghan using 'HRH' title but only in private

The Duchess of Sussex used the title HRH on a card sent with a personal gift but not for any public purpose, sources close to her have said. A video accompanying a podcast shows a gift basket for US cosmetics entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima, which includes a card saying: "With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex."When Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals there was an agreement to stop using HRH, which stands for Her/His Royal Highness, but they still hold the close to the California-based couple reject that this card was a breach of the agreement struck on their departure from royal duties. According to sources, the couple do not use HRH in commercial or public settings - and this was only a private use of the title and was for a gift given more than a year distinction would mean the HRH title was not being used to promote the jams and food products in Meghan's As Ever range or her Netflix cookery card was shown in a video of a podcast hosted by Jamie Kern Lima, who said that when she had been "super-stressed" that Meghan had cheered her up by dropping round some ice cream and "home made strawberry sauce".Mrs Kern Lima said the gift showed great empathy and gave something that "adds value to my life".Prince Harry and Meghan lost the use of the titles when they stopped being working royals in 2020 and left the UK for the United States."The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family," said a statement from Buckingham Palace at the also stopped receiving public funding as they embarked on "the next chapter of their lives".But this agreement did not remove the title, it restricted how it was used, with this card suggesting that it has still been used in private. Another non-working royal, Prince Andrew, also does not use HRH in any official capacity, but still has the podcast with Jamie Kern Lima also included Meghan discussing her relationship with Prince Harry: "You have to imagine at the beginning, everyone has, like, butterflies."Then we immediately went into the trenches together. Yeah, right out of the gate, like six months into dating."So now, seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way, and that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now." EXCLUSIVE Late Queen would be 'highly offended' Meghan is still using HRH title - as it emerges Duchess has sent the same card for at least six years

Meghan Markle's insistence on calling herself Her Royal Highness would have 'highly offended' the Queen as MailOnline can today reveal she has been sending the same HRH card for at least six years. The former actress, 43, has sparked controversy after her friend Jamie Kern Lima shared a picture of a food hamper with a note that said it was 'With the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex'. Meghan's spokesman has denied she is flouting the Megxit deal agreed with the late Queen and insisted the Sussexes do not use HRH titles for commercial purposes. But Meghan sometimes calls herself Her Royal Highness to friends and in private correspondence, a source close to her has said. Royal commentator and biographer Ingrid Seward, editor in Chief of Majesty Magazine, said: 'The Queen didn't remove HRH but told them not to use it. 'I think if her late grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth was still around she would be highly offended, as she was very sensitive about that. She wouldn't think it was the correct form'. MailOnline can reveal that the HRH message Meghan sent with ice cream and jam to Ms Kern Lima is the same as those used by her when she was a working royal. It exactly matches the note she sent to novelist Matt Haig from her desk at Kensington Palace six years ago after he wrote a poem she included in the issue of British Vogue she guest-edited the magazine in September 2019. It is not known how often she has sent the card with her royal cypher since then, but a source close to the Sussexes has admitted Meghan does use HRH privately with friends. Harry and Meghan's agreement with the late Queen and senior officials was that they would stop using the word 'Royal' and their HRH titles after they quit duties and emigrated to the US to become 'financially independent' from the Crown. Ingrid Seward told The Sun: 'Remember she removed the HRH titles from both Diana and Sarah Ferguson'. Jamie's hamper image suggests that Meghan does use it with friends and in personal correspondence. A spokesman for the Sussexes has insisted today that they do not use HRH titles for commercial purposes. But critics have said that the image of the note with some organic ice cream and jam, published yesterday, was a tacit plug for Meghan's As Ever lifestyle range, while also promoting her new podcast episode with her friend Jamie. A source close to the royal couple suggested that the image shared by Jamie Kern Lima was taken before the Duchess launched her As Ever brand in early March. In the podcast, Jamie Kern Lima claimed that she had been sent the jam last year. The Sussexes have never had their HRH taken away by Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles. The source close to the couple said that while Meghan and Harry do not publicly use 'HR H', their titles remain. The 'HRH, The Duchess of Sussex ' note was spotted on a card by eagle-eyed royal fans yesterday. The gift basket was sent to Meghan's friend, CEO of IT Cosmetics Jamie, when she had in-laws staying and the Duchess wanted to help out. A screenshot of the hamper has since circulated online after featuring on Jamie's podcast on Sunday - and appears to feature the Duchess' homemade strawberry jam. The basket also includes two jars of Straus organic ice cream, some flowers, mint, and the note with Meghan's royal title embellished on it. Royal fans have reacted furiously to the name on the card this evening, with one writing on X: 'I thought they couldn't use HRH?' Another said: 'She's not to [use] it per the Queen!' Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in January 2020 and embarked on a new life together in California. In a statement at the time Buckingham Palace said: 'The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.' HRH, an abbreviation of His/Her Royal Highness, is used as part of the title of some members of the royal family. Since their exit, Meghan has often appeared to make thinly veiled swipes at the Royal Family, most recently claiming in a new podcast episode that her and Harry were 'in the trenches' when they first started dating. In her first ever podcast interview, Meghan opened up to Jamie about her family life in Montecito with Harry and their children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three. Meghan revealed she was sending the youngsters an email every day to create a 'time capsule' they could revisit when they are older. The mother-of-two became emotional as she read out a letter from them which read: 'From Archie and Lili via Papa. We love your cooking. We love your pancakes and we love, love, love your hugs. You're the best mummy and we love you.' Referring to the note, Meghan said: 'So sweet. I also love that it's mummy, instead of mommy, which is very British.' Blinking back tears, she added: 'I wasn't expecting this, they're just so great. This is why it's so nice to have no make up on, thank you.' During the podcast, released on Sunday, the Duchess also spoke of her relationship with Harry, saying she was more in love than she's ever been before making a seemingly pointed remark that some have interpreted as a swipe at the royals. 'You have to imagine, at the beginning it's all butterflies - but then we immediately went into the trenches together,' she said. 'Right out of the gate, like six months into dating. So now seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.'
