Jamie Lever says she was asked to strip on video call during an audition: ‘Gave no script, said it was a bold character'

Actor Johnny Lever's daughter, actor-comedian Jamie Lever, recently opened up about facing an uncomfortable situation during what was supposed to be an audition for an international project. During an audition with Zoom, Jamie said she was asked to strip during a video call by the makers as part of the audition. (Also read: Jamie Lever says, 'I'm an actor's kid, not nepo kid', recalls father Johnny Lever's warning about film industry) Jamie Lever opened up about a casting couch incident. What Jamie said During the interview, Jamie recalled that she was excited when an offer for an international project landed her way. She said, "They mentioned there would be a video call. The script wasn't provided because they wanted it to be improvised. At the scheduled time, I received the link and joined. I was informed that the director would speak to me directly. The individual pretending to be the director claimed he was travelling and couldn't turn on his video. He stated, 'This is an international film we are casting for, and you fit the physical criteria perfectly, but we need to test a few things.'' 'Imagine there's a 50-year-old person in front of you' She continued, 'He informed me that I would portray a bold character and that there would be no comedy involved. I was eager to explore something new. When I inquired about what he needed me to do, he said, 'Imagine there's a 50-year-old person in front of you, and you're trying to charm him. Ultimately, there's an intimate scene between the two.' I expressed my discomfort and requested to stick to the script. He claimed there was no script and that it was all about improvisation. If you need to strip, say something, or do anything, feel free. I wasn't at ease, but he kept insisting, 'This is a major project, and we want to cast you.' I replied, 'If you expect me to strip during this video call, I am not comfortable with that. I wasn't made aware of this.' I quickly turned off my video. That's when I realised this could be a significant scam." She added that had she 'acted naively', her video 'could have been recorded, and I could have been harassed'. Jamie also said that 'so many women are deceived and trapped under the guise of casting. I feel incredibly fortunate'. She also added that she 'shouldn't have even clicked the link, but my presence of mind saved me. I was terrified because it was the first time I faced such a situation in my life'. Jamie has appeared in several Bollywood films, including Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk. Jamie is now all set to embark on her comedy tour, The Jamie Lever Show, across the United States. The tour kicks off in Seattle on August 1 and will cover 15 cities, concluding on August 31 in Boston.

Johnny Lever's Daughter Jamie Weighs In On Bollywood Nepotism: "My Journey Has Been Quite Different"

New Delhi: Actor-comedian Jonny Lever's daughter Jamie Lever has opened up about the concept of nepotism in Bollywood. She recalled her difficult journey in the film industry marked by countless auditions and rejections. The actress also revealed the reason why she doesn't consider herself a 'nepo kid'. Jamie Lever, in an interview with Zoom, revealed, 'I'm seeing this very closely now. There's a difference between being a nepo kid and being an actor's kid. I feel like I'm an actor's kid. I'm the daughter of an actor, but my journey has been very different. Nepo kids have a different path. They often enjoy a lot of privileges and are given opportunities, sometimes even without proving their talent or ability." She added, 'I've been observing this up close, my journey has been quite different. And there's a clear distinction. Even though I'm a child of the industry, I can see how big the difference is.' Recounting her challenges, the 37-year-old shared, 'There are people who get roles served to them on a silver platter, being handed lead parts in films without much effort. And then there are people like us who've had to go through countless auditions, face rejections, and still keep going.' Jamie remembered a piece of advice given to her by Johnny Lever. She said, 'If you're handed an opportunity on a silver platter, you must give it your all. Take all the training you can to become the best version of yourself. My father once warned me: 'If you want to enter this industry, be the best, or do not bother at all'.' Johnny Lever, known for his impeccable comic timing, shot to fame in the 1990s by playing memorable characters in films like Baazigar, Deewana Mastana, Dulhe Raja, and Baadshah. Meanwhile, Jamie Lever has appeared in several movies, including Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk. At present, she is ready to embark on her comedy tour, The Jamie Lever Show. It will begin on August 1 in Seattle, United States, and will cover 15 cities, finally wrapping up on August 31 in Boston.

Johnny Lever throws shade at modern-day actors and comedians for relying on vulgarity, double-meaning jokes: 'No aukat to stand before us. They copy and think...'

Johnny Lever has voiced his concerns about the increasing vulgarity and double-meaning jokes in modern Indian comedy, attributing it to Hollywood's influence. He challenges today's comedians to prove their talent by creating clean, skillful humor, emphasizing the importance of family-friendly content. Lever proudly notes his daughter, Jamie Lever, continues his legacy of clean comedy. Johnny Lever , one of India's most beloved comedians, is not mincing words when it comes to the current state of comedy. In a recent chat, the veteran performer took a sharp dig at modern-day actors and stand-up artists for leaning heavily on vulgarity and double-meaning jokes. With over 300 films to his name and a career built on clean, skillful humour, Lever's critique carries weight—and a challenge to the next generation. Hollywood's Influence on Indian Comedy In a conversation with actress Kunickaa Sadanand on her YouTube channel, Johnny pointed out that the rising use of foul language and crass humour in Indian comedy is influenced by Hollywood. He criticised today's actors and comedians for blindly imitating Western content, noting that many now consume only English films. Kunickaa too echoed Lever's concerns, adding that many young actors and comedians today lack a proper command of Hindi, further distancing themselves from traditional Indian comedic sensibilities. A Shift in Comic Sensibility The veteran comedian further explained that this shift in influence has impacted comedic sensibilities. He noted that many performers directly lift content from Hollywood, assuming it will work in the Indian context. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bristol: If You Were Born Between 1940-1975 You Could Be Eligible For This Life Cover Reassured Undo This mindset, he said, has led to the widespread use of double-meaning jokes in today's comedy. Stand-Up Under Fire Johnny also weighed in on the current wave of stand-up comedy, criticizing its frequent reliance on double-meaning content. He emphasized that his generation of comedians was trained to avoid such shortcuts, and insisted that if seasoned performers like him resorted to that style, today's newcomers wouldn't be able to match up. Yet, he added, they consciously chose to stick to clean, skillful comedy. He wrapped up his thoughts with a subtle challenge to today's comedians, urging them to prove their talent by making people laugh without relying on vulgarity. He acknowledged that audiences may enjoy the current wave of content, but emphasized the importance of clean humour, especially for those who cater to a family audience—something he continues to hold himself accountable to. Jamie Lever Carries the Torch Johnny also mentioned that his daughter, Jamie Lever, continues the legacy by performing solo shows without resorting to vulgar humour, staying true to the values he upholds. Ironically, the veteran comedian was recently seen in Housefull 5—a film that came under fire for the very elements he criticises, including crass jokes and excessive vulgarity.

Johny Lever's daughter Jamie Lever asked to strip on a video call: 'A 50-year-old man...'

There is nothing new about the shocking scams that happen in the name of auditions, but every time we hear about them, they are equally disturbing and of course, no one deserves to go through such an experience. Recently, Johny Lever's daughter, Jamie Lever, gave an interview in which she recalled a horrifying incident. She revealed that she was asked to strip on a video call by someone posing as a director. Jamie shared how she was petrified and had to abruptly end the call. Read on to find out what she said about the incident. Jamie Lever was asked to strip on a video call Jamie Lever recently opened up about a disturbing casting scam she faced early in her career. Without a manager at the time, her contact details were widely shared, leading her to receive a call from someone claiming to be casting for an international film. Excited by the opportunity, she agreed to audition over a video call. She told Zoom that, during the call, the person, posing as a director, kept their video off, claiming to be "in transit." They told Jamie the role was for a bold character and asked her to improvise a scene where she had to woo an older man. Shockingly, they suggested she should strip during the audition. Jamie refused, saying she wasn't comfortable and preferred a proper script. 'They said that you imagine there is a 50-year-old man in front of you and you are trying to woo this man, and eventually, there is an intimate scene. I said, 'I am not very comfortable with this. When there is a script I will follow that'. They said, 'There is no script, it is improvised so if you want to strip or if you want to say something or if you want to do something else, feel free to do that,' she added. Realising it was likely a scam, she ended the call immediately. She later reflected on how the incident could have been used to exploit or harass her and said it was a blessing that she had the presence of mind to walk away. What unsettled her most was that the scammers seemed aware of her identity as Johny Lever's daughter and still attempted to trap her. Who is Jamie Lever?
