See Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell's contract details, salary after extension
The full details of Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell's contract extension that keeps him with the Cyclones through 2032 have been released. Campbell initially agreed to the extension back in December. The new contract, which was made available on Aug. 1, was obtained through an open-records request. The contract was signed and dated by Campbell on July 22 and it went into effect earlier this year on Jan. 1. Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard inked his signature on July 11, and university president Dr. Wendy Wintersteen co-signed and dated the document on July 15. Campbell is entering his 10th season as head coach. Last season, he became the program's winningest coach during the Cyclones' historic 11-3 campaign. They capped the year with a 42-41 win over Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, marking the third bowl game victory since Campbell arrived in 2016. Before Campbell, Iowa State had only three bowl game victories since its first appearance in 1971. More: Iowa State football, Matt Campbell agree to contract extension through 2032 Matt Campbell's new salary Campbell's base salary plus additional compensation increased to $5 million per year. It was previously raised from an annual total compensation of $3.5 million to $4 million in 2021. It's a modest increase for Campbell, after solidifying himself as the program's winningest coach and a historic 11-win season. According to USA Today's college football head coaching salaries database released last year for the 2024 season, the Iowa State coach ranked 10th in the Big 12. This new salary would push up into the top half of the conference, behind the likes of Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy, Kansas' Lance Leipold, Utah's Kyle Whittingham, Colorado's Deion Sanders, Kansas State's Chris Klieman and TCU's Sonny Dykes. He will also be behind Arizona State's Kenny Dillingham, who also inked a contract extension during the offseason, which increased his salary to $5.8 million. If Campbell leaves and accepts a Division I college football coaching job elsewhere, Iowa State is entitled to a $2 million buyout. In the event that Campbell is fired, he is owed 100% of total financial compensation for the remainder of the contract through 2032. Iowa State rewards athletic director Jamie Pollard for program's success with a 5-year extension
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Jamie Pollard, the Iowa State athletic director since 2005, has received a five-year contract extension through 2030, the university announced Friday. The Cyclones have had unprecedented success in the major sports in 2024-25. The football team had its first 11-win season and the ninth-ranked men's basketball team has been in the top 10 all season and achieved its highest ranking since 1956-57 when it reached No. 3 in December. Terms of Pollard's contract will be announced later, the school said. 'I am humbled to have had the opportunity to lead our athletics program for the past 20 years,' said Pollard, who thanked the administration for its support. "We have an amazing culture in our athletics program, led by our talented and dedicated coaches and staff. Although our industry is undergoing transformational change, I am confident our department will successfully embrace these challenges with the same energy and urgency that has proven to be successful in the past.' Pollard, the nation's third-longest serving Power Four athletic director, has overseen $340 million in new construction and facility renovations. Since 2011-12, and excluding the 2020-21 pandemic year, ISU is the only school in the nation to have average attendances over 50,000 in football, 12,000 in men's basketball and 9,000 in women's basketball. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season.
