Encounter between terrorists & security forces under way in J&K's Kishtwar
(ANI photo) NEW DELHI: An exchange of fire on Thursday morning broken out between security forces and terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district, according to the Jammu & Kashmir Police. The incident comes nearly two weeks after India launched Operation Sindoor , a major counterterror campaign targeting terror bases in Pakistan and PoK. Although hostilities between the two countries de-escalated following a ceasefire agreement on May 10, India has clarified that the operation, initiated on May 7 is 'paused, not over,' signalling continued vigilance in its fight against crossborder terrorism.

42 unexploded Pak shells destroyed in J&K's Poonch
The Army and the Jammu & Kashmir Police Sunday carried out a 'controlled operation' to safely destroy 42 unexploded Pakistani shells in the border district of Poonch. These unexploded shells were destroyed in border areas of Jhullas, Salotri, Dharati and Salani, said a statement issued Sunday by the Defence Public Relations Officer, Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal. 'These shells, remnants of recent cross-border shelling, posed a serious threat to the lives and safety of local residents,' he said, adding that the operation was carried out with 'utmost precision, adhering to all standard safety protocols to prevent any risk to civilian life or property'. Bomb disposal teams from the Army, in coordination with police, ensured the complete neutralisation of all explosive remnants, the statement said. Army engineers have launched a sweeping clearance operation across border districts, defusing over 80 unexploded shells in the past five days — including 6 in Pargwal, 19 in Rajouri, 42 in Poonch, and 12 along the IB. Meanwhile, Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar Sunday visited the Mendhar subdivision to take stock of the situation in areas affected by the cross-border shelling. He promised swift relief and compensation measures. Kumar was accompanied by Poonch Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal and other senior district administration officers. The Divisional Commissioner inspected several affected locations and spoke with residents. He also visited the residence of the family where a woman lost her life due to the shelling.

'We are Muslims, we say Allahu Akbar even in storms': Father of zipline operator on viral Pahalgam attack video
NEW DELHI: The father of zipline operator Muzammil, who was heard shouting " Allahu Akbar " in a viral video moments before the April 22 began responded to the growing controversy and said that the phrase is a natural expression of faith among Muslims. Muzammil, who was operating the zipline at Baisaran meadow when terrorists opened fire on tourists, has since been detained and questioned by the NIA and Jammu & Kashmir Police. The remarks came after a tourist from Gujarat, Rishi Bhatt, alleged that Muzammil shouted "Allahu Akbar" thrice just before the firing began. 'Nine people ziplined before me, but the operator did not utter a word. When I was sliding, he spoke, and then the firing started... He said 'Allahu Akbar' thrice and then the firing started,' Bhatt told ANI. The video, filmed by Bhatt during his zipline ride, captured the chaos as gunshots rang out in the background. It has since gone viral on social media and added a controversial layer to the ongoing investigation into the terror attack that killed 26 tourists, including one Nepalese citizen. Meanwhile, authorities have summoned all witnesses present at the site and are continuing to probe whether there was any local facilitation of the attack. The Central government has vowed to punish the perpetrators and their collaborators. In the wake of the incident, it suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, revoked visas for Pakistani citizens (barring diplomatic categories), and closed the Attari border checkpoint. This has been the deadliest attack on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing and has sent shockwaves through the tourism sector and local communities in the Valley.
