Notorious criminal injured while trying to escape police custody, hospitalised
A hardcore criminal was injured after the police opened fire at him following his escape bid here late Monday, said officials. He was leading the police team for recovery of weapons. 'In a major breakthrough, Jammu Police had recently arrested a notorious history-sheeter Bagh Hussain, alias Baghu, alias Sunny, son of Mangat Ali of Balol Nallah near Kikri Morh, Bari Brahmana from Haryana', said a police officer. He was involved in case FIR number 53/2025 under sections 109, 111, 132, 191(2) BNS, 3/25 Arms Act registered at Miran Sahib police station, officials added. During interrogation, the accused disclosed having concealed the weapon of offence—a loaded pistol along with an axe—in Banachak village in Bishnah. 'The accused was being taken to the place where he hid the weapons. However, he attempted to snatch the service weapon of a constable Arun Sharma, leading to a violent scuffle that caused injuries to the constable,' he said. In line of duty, self-defence and retaliatory action, the police party was forced to open fire on the accused, who sustained injuries during the incident, he added. He has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. It is pertinent to mention here that Bagh Hussain, is a notorious criminal with a long history of violent and heinous crimes, with 27 FIRs registered against him across multiple police stations in Jammu, Samba, and even Himachal Pradesh, out of which eight FIRs were registered for assault on police parties including recent attack on SHO PS Bari Brahmana. His criminal record includes charges under attempt to murder, murder, dacoity, illegal arms possession, kidnapping, rioting, criminal conspiracy, obstruction of government duties, and several serious provisions of law, said the officer.

Pakistan continues hostilities, attack on places of worship in Jammu: Ministry of Defence
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 10 (ANI): Pakistan continued its hostilities on Saturday and targeted places of worship including the Shambhu temple in Jammu and other residential areas of the region, as per a statement by the Ministry of Defence. Multiple armed drones were sent through the night and which endanged civilians and religious sites, the statement further said. 'Pakistan continued its hostilities on 10 May 2025 by targeting places of worship like the famous Shambhu Temple and residential areas in Jammu. Multiple armed drones have been sent through the night, endangering civilians and religious sites. The Indian armed forces remain vigilant and are committed to defending the sovereignty of the nation,' as per the official 'X' post by Ministry of Defence. Meanwhile, heavy cross-border shelling by Pakistan caused damage to homes and religious sites in J&K's Kupwara, Uri, and Poonch. Locals vowed to stand with the Indian army despite the attacks. In Poonch, houses and water tanks in civilian areas suffered extensive damage. Balbir Singh, a resident in Poonch, said, 'The entire house is damaged. The adjacent houses have also suffered damage. Pakistan is targeting civilian areas. They are deliberately targeting Poonch. Gurdwara, temples and mosques - they have not spared anything. This is all the nefarious design of Pakistan that it is targeting civilians. People are scared but they have the spirit that they will continue to live here and stand with the Indian army.' Meanwhile, Jammu Police and other agencies are working to retrieve projectile fragments from the site. Projectiles were recovered in Jammu's Bishnah and Lasjan areas, while splinters and debris were also found in Akhnoor, though no major structural damage was reported. Four airbases in Pakistan were hit by Indian strikes in the early hours of Saturday, sources told ANI as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate. India launched the retaliatory strikes immediately after Pakistan attacked 26 locations across India, sources said. Intermittent firing is still going on at several places along the Line of Control (LoC). (ANI)

J-K: Pakistani shelling damages civilian homes in Rajouri
Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 10 (ANI): Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Pakistan carried out cross-border shelling on Saturday, causing significant damage to civilian areas in Jammu's Rajouri district and heightening fears among residents. A series of explosions damaged several houses and properties across the region, triggering panic among residents. According to locals, smoke rose after loud explosions were reported in Rajouri. 'One injured person has been brought here. Doctors and the entire team are ready. His treatment began immediately,' said Farukh Ahmed Wani, the security in-charge at the hospital. Authorities confirmed that the injured civilian was transported to the hospital shortly after the shelling. Strikes occurred near the Aap Shambhu Temple in Rajouri, prompting Jammu Police and other agencies to recover projectile fragments from the site. Meanwhile, in Punjab, a drone-related explosion damaged a house in Kanganiwal village in rural Jalandhar. Surjeet Kaur, a local resident, described the moment of the attack: 'A red coloured flash came above our house and there was a huge explosion. We got scared. Everything was dark. We came out of our houses after a short while and saw that the water tank above our houses and our neighbours' houses had exploded. There was a blackout at that time, and all the lights were off.' At least four airbases in Pakistan were hit by Indian strikes in the early hours of Saturday, top government sources said, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate. India launched the retaliatory strikes immediately after Pakistan attacked 26 locations across India on Saturday, the sources told ANI. Intermittent firing is still going on at several places along the Line of Control (LoC). 'Drones have been sighted at 26 locations along the International Border and LoC with Pakistan. These include suspected armed drones. The locations include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet and Lakhi Nala. Regrettably, an armed drone targeted a civilian area in Ferozpur, resulting in injuries to members of a local family. The injured have been provided medical assistance, and security forces have sanitised the area. The Indian Armed Forces are maintaining a high state of alert, and all such aerial threats are being tracked and engaged using counter-drone systems. The situation is under close and constant watch & prompt action is being taken wherever necessary. Citizens, especially in border areas, are advised to remain indoors, limit unnecessary movement, and strictly follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. While there is no need for panic, heightened vigilance and precaution are essential,' the Ministry of Defence said in its statement. On the night of May 7-8, Indian forces also successfully neutralised Pakistan's large-scale drone and missile attack aimed at several Indian military bases in northern and western parts of the country. An air defence system in Lahore was also taken out during those operations. (ANI)

J-K CM Omar Abdullah expresses grief after administrative officer Raj Kumar Thappa killed in Pakistani shelling

The J-K CM offered his condolences to Thappa who lost his life aftern his home was targeted due to shelling from Pakistan in Rajouri. 'Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district & attended the online meeting I chaired. Today the residence of the officer was hit by Pak shelling as they targeted Rajouri town killing our Additional District Development Commissioner Sh Raj Kumar Thappa. I've no words to express my shock & sadness at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace', Omar Abdiullah's official 'X' post read.
