Eyeing farmers, Vijay to hold roadshow from delta in Aug

Chennai: To woo the electorally significant farming community, TVK leader and actor Vijay will start his state-wide tour in August from the Cauvery delta. Also on his agenda is wooing some of the DMK allies after ruling out a tie-up with AIADMK, which has joined hands with BJP again, multiple sources told TOI. The actor wrapped up his shoot for 'Jana Nayakan', reportedly his last film, scheduled for release in Jan. Following a meeting with booth-level agents in Coimbatore, Vijay is planning a second roadshow in another region. The party is considering a district unit meeting led by the actor, along with a second phase of enrolment drive, aiming for two crore members. The party says it has enrolled 1.1 crore members across the state. An associate of Vijay said, "The delta has been chosen for his campaign launch with farmers and land as the focus." The state-wide tour will likely involve a campaign vehicle, similar to his event in Parandur, where he protested the destruction of farmland for the proposed greenfield airport. In 2011 the actor addressed his first public rally in Nagapattinam (in the delta), organised by Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, to condemn attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo You Can Also Check: Chennai AQI | Weather in Chennai | Bank Holidays in Chennai | Public Holidays in Chennai Sources indicate that Vijay aims to lead an alliance and share power with allies. While AIADMK's attempts to bring him on board were unsuccessful, the BJP camp has been showing interest in aligning with the actor to unseat the DMK govt. Leaders of the state BJP unit, including its president Nainar Nagenthran and K Annamalai, had recently extended birthday wishes to Vijay. Former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan referred to Vijay's films in her greeting, encouraging him to "support good deeds against evil forces". A senior TVK functionary dismissed the possibility of an alliance with BJP. He said, "Vijay is not interested in aligning with BJP. Let them do anything. But alliance with BJP is 100% ruled out." AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who greeted Vijay on X last year, chose to remain silent this year. This comes against the backdrop of talks with TVK stalling due to Vijay's demand for 50% seats and CM candidature for the first half of the tenure.
