Happy Yappers brings tails and hearts together every Saturday
Barks, wagging tails, and excited paws greet visitors every Saturday at the Happy Yappers Hub in Parktown North, where dogs of all ages meet potential families for adoption. 'Just because a dog doesn't come to an adoption day, it doesn't mean the dog isn't home ready,' the team explains, emphasising the care taken to match each dog with the right family.

Happy Yappers, based in Magaliesburg, cares for over 160 dogs and supports surrounding informal areas with continuous feeding, vaccination, and sterilisation programmes. The sanctuary was revitalised by founder Janet Diack, who turned a failing organisation into a place where every decision is guided by one principle: It's all about the dogs. Volunteers, vets, and suppliers all share the same focus… Ensuring the animals' best interests are always put first.
The adoption process begins with families choosing a dog from social media posts, or at the hub. An application is submitted, along with a pre-approval home video showing the yard, shelter, and sleeping area. A home check follows, and once approved, the adoption fee covers vaccinations, sterilisation, and microchipping. Volunteers remain available to offer guidance as dogs settle into their new homes.
The sanctuary faces challenges, from rising abandonment to finding homes for special-needs dogs, but success stories keep the team going. 'Jack came to us as a puppy and spent ten long years in the shelter before being chosen,' the team recalls. 'This day made every volunteer cry happy tears.'
Every Saturday, at the Parktown North Hub, Happy Yappers brings dogs and families together, transforming lives one wagging tail at a time.
