China's military calls for post-war order to be upheld, not ‘law of the jungle'
China's military is a strong force for safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining world peace, its mouthpiece said on Friday, calling for the global order against hegemony to be upheld. Advertisement PLA Daily made the comments in an editorial marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. It pointed to China's long fight in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, which started in 1931 and ended in 1945. 'For a long time, the Chinese battlefield pinned down and fought against the main forces of Japanese militarism, playing a decisive role in the complete destruction of the Japanese invaders,' the editorial said. It said that, strategically, Chinese had supported the operations of the Allied Forces and complemented the actions on the European and Pacific battlefields, and made contributions to victory in the anti-fascist war and world peace. Officials commemorate May 4 Movement anniversary Officials on Sunday took part in a flag-raising ceremony to mark the 106th anniversary of the May 4 Movement and this year's 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Guests included Chief Secretary Eric Chan, deputy director of Beijing's liaison office, Liu Guangyuan, and deputy commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, Pan Yundong. Three veterans, along with 1,200 young people from uniformed groups and primary and secondary schools, attended the ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. The May 4 Movement began in Beijing in 1919. It involved student-driven protests against the transfer of Chinese territories, previously controlled by Germany, to Japan.

Zhou Liwen, former head of the News Department at Guangming Daily, China's premier intellectual-focused newspaper, also presented his documentary writing "Heroes of the Land--The 1942 Quzhou Promise." The Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation designated Quzhou Senior High School as a "Flying Tigers Friendship School", marking the institution's official inclusion in the "Flying Tigers Friendship School and Youth Leaders Program". Following the presentation of a replication of Liberation Daily featuring the Doolittle Raid to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Quzhou Memorial Hall to the Doolittle Raid and WWII Pacific War Memorial Hall established a sister museum partnership. Additionally, the Quzhou Doolittle Raid Historical Research Association and the USS Hornet Museum exchanged their collections, further strengthening ties between the two nations. During the dialogue session themed on "Let History Illuminate the Future," Chinese and American participants engaged in in-depth discussions centered on "Honoring History and Fostering Friendship." On the same day, the Chinese and American delegates walked through Quzhou's ancient streets and experienced the cultural charm of the Southern Sanctuary of Confucianism.
