Four killed in two-vehicle crash on Ohio Turnpike
ELMORE – Troopers from the Milan post are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. Aug. 18. The crash occurred on the Ohio Turnpike at milepost 82 in Sandusky County.
A 2020 International tractor-trailer, operated by Rolando Torres Lebron, 27, Buffalo, New York, was traveling westbound on the Ohio Turnpike when it struck a Ford F-450, and continued off the left side of the roadway, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The commercial vehicle struck the median concrete barrier, re-entered the roadway, and continued off the right side of the roadway. It then struck a traffic sign pole before stopping. The Ford F-450, operated by Jared Cain, 38, Circleville, also traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck the median concrete barrier before stopping on the right shoulder.
Lebron and his passengers in the International, Ayeisha Morales, 23, of Rochester, New York and two children, were killed. The driver of the Ford F-450, Cain, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sandusky County Coroner's Office identified the children as Liam Cruz, 3, and Eliam Cruz, 1, both of Rochester, New York.
The four fatalities were taken to the Lucas County Coroner's Office in Toledo to determine cause of death.
The Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department, Sandusky County EMS, Madison Motors Towing, Lucas County Coroner and the Ohio Turnpike Maintenance Department assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol on scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
