‘Woh decision apne hisab se lungi,' says Jasmin Bhasin on her interfaith relationship with Aly Goni; expert on setting boundaries

Actor Jasmin Bhasin, known for her appearance in Bigg Boss 14, recently opened up about the religious comments and trolling she faces for dating Aly Goni. Despite coming from different religious backgrounds, the couple has built a strong and loving relationship. In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, she spoke about how she chooses her partner based on personal values rather than societal expectations. 'I feel that you should have a set criteria for choosing your partner based on the things you need in life — basic respect, love, and a support system. I look at those criteria first. After that, the criteria that society has conditioned us to value are also important to me — family, upbringing, and the values I was raised with. I don't want to let go of them. But if, because of those criteria, I have to let go of my dream partner, am I being smart or am I being stupid?' She also reflected on how cultural and religious expectations often shape relationships, but she refuses to let go of someone who truly makes her happy. 'If I meet somebody who fits all the criteria and makes me feel complete, I am not going to let go of that person. Ab duniya kuch bhi likhe, kitna bhi galat lage, jeena maine hai toh main woh decision apne hisab se lungi, chahe aapko galat lage (Now, no matter what the world writes or how wrong it may seem, I have to live my life, so I will make the decision according to what feels right to me, even if you think it's wrong), that's about it). Addressing rumours about issues between their families, Jasmin clarified that while she prefers to keep things private, both families are supportive. 'Many people think our family has issues, or our parents are not okay with us. But it's not like that.' Sonal Khangarot, a licensed rehabilitation counsellor and psychotherapist, tells 'Families and society often emphasise maintaining cultural or religious continuity, which can create pressure to conform. With the pressure to confirm comes the need to explore our diversity, we know that South Asian settings like India are multicultural in nature. Individuals are bound to meet other individuals of a different caste/community/ethnicity.' According to the expert, here are few ways in which couples can navigate this pressure: Acknowledge the pressure: It's natural to want approval from loved ones, but it's important to recognise when societal norms become a burden rather than guidance. Educate and set boundaries: Helping families understand the relationship rather than reacting defensively can ease resistance. If opposition remains, setting firm yet respectful boundaries protects mental well-being. Seek support: A support system of like-minded friends or even a therapist can help couples navigate the emotional toll of societal expectations. People often assume that keeping a relationship private means there is family disapproval. 'This assumption comes from the belief that relationships, especially serious ones, should be celebrated openly—so secrecy is seen as a sign of conflict,' states Khangarot. She suggests, 'Privacy is about protecting the relationship from unnecessary interference, while secrecy is about hiding something. Couples should clarify their reasons for privacy. If couples don't want unwanted speculation, they can share selective details to reduce curiosity without overexposing their relationship. Mixed signals fuel assumptions. If a couple maintains a low profile consistently, rather than hiding or revealing things selectively, it becomes the norm rather than a cause for gossip.'

Taking Grandparents Along On Honeymoon? Internet Says It's More Common Than You Think

While many found the idea of taking family on a honeymoon unusual, a psychologist thinks bringing family on a honeymoon is an "interesting concept." Remember Gippy Grewal and Jasmin Bhasin's Punjabi film Honeymoon, where a family tags along with a newlywed couple on their honeymoon? Ever wondered what it would be like if that happened in real life? A Reddit user recently shared an article from The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) titled 'Why Mom is Coming on the Honeymoon?" This post quickly garnered attention, with many people chiming in with their personal experiences. A cinematic chaos isn't too far from reality. One person shared that their neighbour, whose Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law went on their honeymoon with them. 'They felt they could because they gifted the couple their honeymoon to Hawaii." The post soon became a hub for bizarre and hilarious stories where several people shared the stories of their 'not-so-alone" romantic vacations. One recalled, 'My neighbours took their grandparents along on their honeymoon." 'My sister-in-law and her husband tagged along on my wife's and my honeymoon—I was NOT ok with it and it got our marriage off to a rough start," wrote the next. Another Redditor shared, 'My first wedding was in Vegas and I kid you not, at the hotel, my MIL was somehow assigned not only the room next door but also an adjoining room—as in there was direct access from one room to the other." While many found the idea of taking family on a honeymoon unusual, Thea Gallagher, a psychologist and the wellness programs director at NYU Langone Health in New York City, told Fox News Digital that she thinks bringing family on a honeymoon is an 'interesting concept." She mentioned that bringing family on a honeymoon can be a good idea, but only if both you and your partner agree on it. She advised against it if the couple feels like they can't enjoy the time alone together. The relationship expert told Fox News, 'I think it probably depends on your relationship with your parents and your agreement with your partner. It would be important for both of you to agree that this is a good choice." She further recommended that couples set clear boundaries and plan time alone together if the family is joining them. She shared that in-laws sometimes could create problems in marriage, such as crossing boundaries by interfering in their decision, giving unsolicited advice or being judgmental. Gallagher advised couples to practice empathy if the family joins them on their honeymoon. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Jasmin Bhasin's Sassy Response To Netizen Asking If She Uses Lip Injections

Television actor Jasmin Bhasin has often voiced her thoughts on getting a lip job. Recently, an Internet user commented on her lips in her latest video. The actor ensured she didn't let the comment slide and had the sassiest reaction to it. For the unversed, Jasmin had once clarified that she hadn't undergone a lip job yet, adding that there's no harm in enhancing one's beauty through external means, as long as it's a personal choice and one feels comfortable doing so. Jasmin Bhasin, on June 18, posted a video of herself lip-syncing to a popular portion from Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada's Intaha Ho Gai Intezar Ki. Her fans reacted to the video with a lot of love. However, a social media user commented on her lips, stating: 'Jesmin ne uper lips me injection lagaya hai (Jasmin has undergone lip injections)." While the actor's fans sprung to action and defended her, Jasmin, too, couldn't stop herself from responding. Giving it back, she wrote, 'Injection nahi filter", with a laughing emoji. Take a look at the video first, and then the comment: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jasmine Bhasin (@jasminbhasin2806) Jasmin enjoys a massive fan following. They trolled the one commenting about her lip injection, stating, 'Either you don't know or you're blind, it's a lip pencil, my dear", 'Ap Jasmin ki ghar kam krti ho kya jo sab pata h apko", 'Aunty ye apki Umar nahi h itna phone use karke kisi actor actress ki post m faltu comment karne ka , jake apna ghar sambhalo." The Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji actor was recently trolled online after netizens claimed she had undergone a lip job. 'Usmein galat kya hai?", she told Bollywood Bubble. She continued, 'Everyone has their own body, their own face, their own needs. Whoever wants to get something done, should be free to do so. Recently, my name got linked to this topic too. I received a lot of messages on Instagram under one of my photos and videos, saying things like, 'Jasmin has done her lips," 'Jasmin has had something done," and so on. But there was nothing like that. Actually, I had swelling from an incident, and that day the makeup artist had overlined my lips a lot. Which I actually liked at the time, because even on Instagram filters, lips tend to look slightly plumper. But later I realized that look didn't suit my face. It was just the over-lining, and that's why everyone assumed I had something done." On the work front, Jasmin Bhasin was last seen in Badnaam with Jayy Randhawa. First Published:
