Morocco Take Top Awards After Winning Women's Futsal AFCON
Morocco were crowned champions of the first-ever CAF Women's Futsal Africa Cup of Nations after a 3-2 comeback win over Tanzania in the final in Rabat.
It was a perfect end to a perfect tournament for the hosts, who also saw Jasmine Damraoui named Player of the Tournament, while Dhouha Madani finished as top scorer with five goals.
Tanzania made a fast start and were 2-0 up inside 16 minutes thanks to goals from Katunzi and Rajabu. But Morocco pulled one back just before half-time, with Madani scoring from a Sihem Tadlaoui assist.
After the break, Morocco pushed forward and got their reward. Idrissiya Krich levelled the score in the 34th minute, before Damraoui netted the winner in the final seconds of the game to seal the title.
Madani scored in every match, with goals against Namibia, Cameroon, Angola, and Tanzania. Her five goals helped Morocco reach the final and played a key part in their success.
Tanzania goalkeeper Najaty Idrissa won the Best Goalkeeper award, while Namibia picked up the Fair Play trophy.
Morocco dominated the tournament from start to finish. They topped their group with big wins over Namibia (8-1) and Cameroon (7-1), eased past Angola 5-1 in the semi-final, and came from behind to beat Tanzania in the final.
The win means Morocco's women join the men's team in dominating African futsal. They also book their place at the Women's Futsal World Cup in the Philippines later this year.
