Eager for KFC, Jasmine Koo is feasting on competition again at the Chevron Championship
Eager for KFC, Jasmine Koo is feasting on competition again at the Chevron Championship THE WOODLANDS, Tex. — On Wednesday, Jasmine Koo's focus was squarely on fast food chicken. After learning that her college golf team had been selected for the Lexington Regional in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the USC freshman came up with dinner plans that you might expect from a college student. "We're going to Kentucky for regionals, and when that regionals got picked I texted into our team group chat and I was like, 'We have to go to KFC. We have to go to KFC,'" Koo said. "So that's basically it. Course looks good. Fits our team." On Thursday, however, Koo wasn't worrying about chicken, but instead made her second start at the 2025 Chevron Championship, the first LPGA major of the 2025 schedule. It's a tournament the funny phenom has had success in — a year ago, she was the low amateur at the Club at Carlton Woods when she got a bounce for the ages off some sponsor signage on the finishing hole. Although the sign she hit has since been removed, Koo didn't need it in the first round, firing an impressive 2-under 70 that had her in solid position through the opening day of play. "My game felt really good today. I think I did a really good job staying patient," she said after a round that paired five birdies with three bogeys. "There were some shots that I didn't really like, but overall stayed really patient. Caddie helped with that. Made some smart decisions coming in." Last year, Koo did get that lucky bounce, but she also played well throughout the week, finishing at 3 under, 10 strokes behind eventual champion Nelly Korda. The California native felt right at home in Texas, and she carried that same confidence on Thursday, when she fought back quickly after making mistakes. She said there were plenty of lessons she leaned on from last year's showing. "I think one thing is that I don't have to have my A-plus game to perform out here," Koo said. "I think that's really helped me, because last year I was surprised with kind of like what the cut line score was, kind of how reachable the field was, and just like that realization made me more calm today. "I wasn't as nervous, as rushed to get something going." Koo, who said she worked a little extra on her chipping in advance of this event, got a little extra boost in the form of USC assistant coach Beth Wu, who played on the Epson Tour after a stellar collegiate career at UCLA. "The support has been great," Koo said. "With Beth out here, too, after a three-putt she'll be like, it's okay. When you come back you'll be in speed jail, but it's okay. Just focus on the next hole. Kind of like that relieves the pressure and makes everything very happy. "I think the advice she gives us isn't very — what the public would think it is. I think it's mostly guidance, what do I need to know or how do I access this LPGA portal, just like the little nitty stuff like that. I think she's helped a lot. She's helped also kind of just being more comfortable around like the LPGA players. Just be like, hey, I was in their shoes too. I mean, you're around me every day. Why are you nervous?"

Augusta National Women's Amateur fans can enjoy many of the Masters famous concessions
Augusta National Women's Amateur fans can enjoy many of the Masters famous concessions EVANS, Ga. — Southern Cal's Jasmine Koo waited an entire year to get her hands on a peach ice cream sandwich. She didn't get one last year at the Augusta National Women's Amateur and put it on her priority list for 2025. Fans who come out of the first two rounds of ANWA at Champions Retreat have the chance to indulge in the most famous concessions in sport, even if they can't step foot on the iconic course. The egg salad sandwich and pimento cheese, for example, are still only $1.50. The Georgia peach ice cream sandwich is a cool $3. While it's a more limited menu than what's on offer at Augusta National Golf Club, even the green packaging is the same. All drinks are $2 and nothing on the list exceeds $3. This marks the sixth edition of the ANWA. A cut will be made after two rounds, and then the entire field heads over to Augusta National to play a practice round on Friday before Saturday's final round.

Stanford stays undefeated, USC freshman Jasmine Koo gets 4th win of season at Juli Inkster
Stanford stays undefeated, USC freshman Jasmine Koo gets 4th win of season at Juli Inkster Show Caption Hide Caption Video: Youngstown State's college golf practice facility WATTS Here's an inside look at Youngstown State's Watson and Tressel Training Site. The Cardinal secured their fifth consecutive victory at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational, setting a new tournament scoring record at 29-under par. Stanford's sophomore golfer, Paula Martin Sampedro, claimed her second individual win of the season, tying for first place with Oregon's Karen Tsuru and USC's Jasmine Koo. Through five stroke-play tournaments this season, top-ranked Stanford has played 65 teams. The Cardinal haven't lost to a single one. Stanford took home the team title Tuesday in the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational, topping No. 3 Oregon by eight shots for the team title. The Cardinal finished at 29-under par, setting a new tournament scoring record. Fourth-ranked USC was the only other team to finish in the red at 7 under. Only one team, USC, has even tied Stanford during a stroke-play event this year, but the Cardinal won the Stanford Intercollegiate via a scorecard playoff in the fall. The defending national champions show no signs of showing down, and that's in large part due to its depth. Sophomore Paula Martin Sampedro became the first Cardinal to win multiple medalist honors in one season since Rose Zhang in 2022-23, as she shot 6-under 66 in the final round to get to 13 under for the week, which was tied with Oregon sophomore Karen Tsuru and USC freshman Jasmine Koo for co-medalist honors. Martin Sampedro is the 12th Cardinal all-time with multiple collegiate wins. She also won The Molly earlier this season. Fellow sophomore Kelly Xu finished solo fourth at 12 under. She led alone for a majority of the final round but ended up a shot out of medalist honors. Sophomore Megha Ganne placed solo seventh at 3 under, and freshman Meja Ortengren tied for 10th. Among counting scores, Stanford's worst finisher was Nora Sundberg, who tied for 20th. Three different Cardinal have won medalist honors this season, including both spring events. For Koo, it's her fourth victory of the season, and she shot 7 under in the final round to earn another trophy. It was the first collegiate win for Tsuru. Dating to last season, Stanford has won eight consecutive stroke-play events. With the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa approaching quickly, one thing remains clear. To win a national title, the road goes through Stanford.
