More than 20 dogs dumped; rescue in need of donations

WEBSTER, La. (KTAL/KMSS) —On Sunday, deputies from Webster Parish and animal control officers spent several hours rounding up more than two dozen dogs that were allegedly dumped by unknown individuals south of Doyline. Sheriff Jason Parker reported that the dogs, of various sizes and ages. The animal shelter that took them in says they are suffering from Parvo and need donations. 'We managed to find all but four or five, but we haven't given up on catching those that remain in that area,' Parker said. 'We're still looking. We don't want them running loose and perhaps causing a nuisance.' While the identity of the individual or individuals who abandoned the animals remains unknown, Parker stated that an investigation has been initiated and will proceed. 'Those animals had to have been delivered in something large like a horse trailer or something similar,' he said. 'We're looking for anyone who may have seen something Sunday. This is completely unacceptable, and we want to find those who are responsible.' Lost dogs have fueled the overpopulation crisis in US animal shelters Sheriff Parker believes the individuals who turned loose such a large number of dogs are from this area. The dogs were taken to nonprofit, LaMa Animal Rescue, and Rocking Rooster Veterinary Services in Minden for treatment. LaMa Animal Rescue details that the four young puppies have Parvo, and the other adult dogs will be quarantined and receive care/spray/neuter at Rocking Rooster. 'One of our concerns was the health of the animals, and we delivered them to a vet who helps us when needed. It's good that the rescue group will see to it they're fed and housed until something positive can be done.' Clear the Shelter 'All the poodles/doodles are extremely matted. We are aware that there are still five adult dogs in the area that could not be caught (pic in comments). Webster Sheriff is aware of this and several dog lovers near the area are trying to gain their trust,' said the animal rescue. LaMa Animal Rescue is asking for donations to help take care of the Doodles and Aussies. They said one of the dogs is pregnant and the one was returned to their owner – she had been missing for three weeks. If any of these doodles or Aussies belong to you, whether stolen or lost, contact us at lamaanimalrescue@ or call Rocking Rooster at 318-382-1400. The rescue recommends callers say 'it's for the LaMa puppies.' LaMa Animal Rescue encourages anyone with information regarding the LaMa puppies' origins to please reach out.
