Will Jasson Dominguez play tonight against Cleveland Guardians? Latest update on New York Yankees star's injury report (June 4, 2025)

Image Source: Getty The New York Yankees will play the Cleveland Guardians tonight at Yankee Stadium, and fans want to know if Jasson Domínguez will be in the game. The young outfielder hurt his thumb in Sunday's game against the Dodgers, worrying everyone. Manager Aaron Boone gave a hopeful update, but will Domínguez play at 7:05 p.m. ET? Let's look at his latest injury updates. Jasson Domínguez's thumb injury shows promising recovery signs In the Yankees' 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, Jasson Domínguez hurt his left thumb while sliding into second base. He couldn't hold a bat after, and fans were scared he'd miss a lot of games. On Tuesday, Aaron Boone said the injury might only keep Domínguez out for a few days. Boone shared that the 22-year-old's thumb is getting better every day so that he might play tonight against the Guardians. The game will be on Amazon Prime Video and CLEG. The team is still checking Domínguez's thumb, but his improvement is good news for the Yankees, who have many hurt players. Fans are excited to see if 'The Martian' will be back on the field tonight in the Bronx. On May 9, he hit three home runs and got seven RBIs against the Athletics. He also hit a game-winning home run against the Texas Rangers on May 21, helping the Yankees win the series. His possible return tonight is super important as the team faces the strong Guardians. The Yankees are counting on their players to keep fighting, and Domínguez's comeback could give them a boost at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees want to bounce back after losing two of three games to the Dodgers. Domínguez's thumb is still being checked, and trainers will decide if he can play before the game. If he's in, his speed and hitting could help a lot against Cleveland. Even if he doesn't play, the Yankees are ready to compete with their team. Boone's update gives hope that Domínguez will be back soon, maybe even tonight.

The long-term payoff Yankees are hoping for from ‘heightened-up' Dodgers series

Try it free LOS ANGELES — If nothing else, the Yankees are hoping their weekend series against the Dodgers will at least have one positive. The World Series rematch obviously did not come with the kind of pressure and high stakes that last October did, but the environment at Dodger Stadium — especially for a late May/early June series — felt big, which could have a payoff in the long run for some of the Yankees' young core. Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells got a taste of playing in the real thing last October, but Ben Rice, Jasson Domínguez (aside from pinch running three times) and Will Warren did not. 3 Will Warren throws a pitch during his start against the Dodgers on May 31. Getty Images 'I think they're beneficial, yes,' manager Aaron Boone said before their 7-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. 'We talk about these series, the Subway Series, obviously coming here and playing the Dodgers, the different big series that you face in the course of the year. 'The biggest thing is we do treat them all the same, but I think there's benefits for our players to play in these environments and these heightened-up series. I do think there's some benefit to that. It's all part of gaining experience in the league.' Not much had gone the Yankees' way through the first two games of the series, aside from Aaron Judge's three home runs, though nothing they did this weekend was going to make last October any less painful. But perhaps there was something to be gained for the young players who have bigger roles now than they did in October. Rice was on the ALDS roster only, but did not appear in a game. Domínguez pinch ran twice in the ALCS and once in the World Series, but did not take any at-bats. 3 Jasson Domínguez hits an RBI double during the Yankees' win against the Dodgers on June 1. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Warren was working out with the Yankees stay-ready group for the first half of the postseason before going back home to Louisiana for the rest of it and watching from his couch. Their contributions in the rematch entering Sunday varied. Rice went 2-for-3 with a walk in the opener before sitting out Saturday and launching a two-run homer Sunday. Domínguez delivered a pinch hit single in Friday's loss, but then went 1-for-4 Saturday with a double and three strikeouts looking. CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS He hit an RBI single Sunday before exiting in the fifth inning with a thumb injury after stealing a base. And then there was Warren, who seemed a tad amped up for the start before it quickly went sideways. His velocity ticked up on the big stage, but he struggled with his command as he got shelled for seven runs on six hits and four walks while recording four outs in Saturday's 18-2 drubbing by the Dodgers. Boone insisted it was not the size of the series that got to Warren but simply a lack of execution. 'Probably just being off, and being off against that team, they're going to make you pay for it,' Boone said. 'I think it's more that. He's faced a lot of growing moments in his big league career. He's already in his big league career where he's got it handed to him. He's pitched well in his big spots. So he's got a lot of ability and he's already grown a lot as a pitcher here in these first couple months of the season. I expect that to continue.' Of course, in a perfect world, the Yankees may not need Warren to be part of the rotation once this October rolls around. But the young right-hander promised on Saturday that he would let the frustration and bitterness of a brutal start sit with him for a few days before making sure he would be better off for it in the long run. 'I think the one thing he's shown here early in his big league career is he has learned a lot from every situation — from adversity, through some success,' Boone said. 'It's a hard game. You're going to take your lumps sometimes and we'll be better for having gone through that and grow from that. He has all the equipment to move right through this and be excellent, like he's been much of the season. It's no fun going through that when you have a day like this. But it's part of the game sometimes and you got to wear it.'

Jasson Domínguez's Latest Feat Hasn't Been Done by a Yankee Since 2022

The New York Yankees stayed hot on May 21, defeating the Texas Rangers by a score of 4-3. Wednesday evening marked the third straight victory for the Yankees. But even more impressive is their prolonged hot stretch, which has yielded wins in 10 out of their last 13 outings. Advertisement Among the surging Bombers' hitters is rookie outfielder Jasson Domínguez, who stole the May 21 contest from the Rangers with a walk-off home run in the ninth. New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez hit a walk-off home run versus the Texas Rangers on May Edmondson-Imagn Images Per reporter Bryan Hoch, "the blast by 'The Martian' was the first walk-off homer by a Yankee since Sept. 20, 2022, when Giancarlo Stanton hit a grand slam to defeat the [Pittsburgh] Pirates." Add it to the growing list of accomplishments for the early AL Rookie of the Year candidate. On May 10, Domínguez became the youngest player in Yankees history to record a three-home run outing, and now this. The game-winner was his sixth homer of the season, along with his 22nd RBI. Advertisement Right-fielder Cody Bellinger also went yard for the Yankees on Wednesday, his eighth of the year, and superstar Aaron Judge tallied his 44th RBI. Before that, second baseman DJ LeMahieu got New York started with an RBI groundout in the second inning. Domínguez has certainly had his ups and downs in 2025, but it feels like he's starting to turn the corner of late. The talented rookie boosted his batting average up to .241 against the Rangers on Wednesday. He also increased his slugging percentage up to .438. On the season, Domínguez has an OPS of .778. He's done some of his best work over the past month and change, with 5 home runs and 17 RBI since April 15. How Jasson Domínguez's walk-off homer saved the Yankees from another tough loss against the Rangers

What made Jasson Domínguez's walk-off blast so special in Yankees' dramatic win over Rangers (AP Photos) Jasson Domínguez picked a perfect time to launch his first career walk-off homer, lifting the New York Yankees to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, the 21-year-old phenom crushed a 2-0 pitch from Luke Jackson into the second deck at Yankee Stadium , sending his teammates and the crowd into a frenzy. Jasson Domínguez stuns Rangers with epic ninth-inning walk-off for Yankees win The dramatic finish capped off a gutsy comeback by the Yankees, who had struggled for most of the night against Texas ace Jacob deGrom. Making his much-anticipated return to New York, deGrom dazzled with a vintage performance—striking out nine over seven dominant innings while allowing just three hits and one walk. He appeared poised to secure his fifth consecutive win, but the Yankees had other plans. Trailing 3-1 at the seventh-inning stretch, the Yankees found life when Cody Bellinger led off the bottom of the frame with a solo homer off deGrom, cutting the deficit to one. Bellinger's blast not only sparked the rally but also extended his personal hitting streak to a career-best 15 games. In the eighth, Aaron Judge delivered the game-tying blow with a clutch RBI single off Jackson. That set the stage for Domínguez, who stepped into the spotlight in the ninth. After turning on Jackson's 2-0 offering, Domínguez rounded the bases in triumph and was swarmed by teammates at home plate. Judge and Anthony Volpe gave him the signature Gatorade shower as he spoke during his postgame interview. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Has Honda Done It Again? The victory marked the Yankees' third straight win and their 10th in the last 13 games, pushing them a season-high 10 games over .500. It also sealed their fifth consecutive series win, showcasing the team's newfound consistency and late-game resilience. Jake Burger had provided Texas with a pair of solo homers—his sixth career multi-homer performance—while Sam Haggerty added a solo shot of his own to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead in the seventh. But the Yankees bullpen held the line, with Yerry De Los Santos working out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and Luke Weaver (1-1) locking down the ninth. Ryan Yarbrough was sharp in his start for New York, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out eight without issuing a walk. The loss was a bitter one for deGrom, who was making his first appearance in the Bronx since 2018 and first start in New York since departing the Mets in 2022. Remarkably, it was the 37th time since 2014 that he's pitched at least seven innings, allowed two or fewer runs, and still not earned a win—a stat he now shares with former teammate Max Scherzer. The Yankees will look to keep their momentum going Thursday as Carlos Rodón takes the mound against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, though a looming rainstorm could play spoiler.
