Notre Dame recruiting class ranks highly in the eyes of this network

Notre Dame recruiting class ranks highly in the eyes of this network The Fighting Irish are making moves when it comes to the recruiting class of 2026. Notre Dame's 2026 recruiting class is now ranked No. 2 by ESPN. The Fighting Irish were previously No. 3. That's because the Fighting Irish secured the services of running back Jonaz Walton after getting Javian Osborne. So the four-letter network gave Notre Dame a boost since the Irish have two of ESPN's top 300 running backs. ESPN updates its rankings of the Top 25 every so often -- the last update was May 14 -- and in addition to the Irish moving up, the Illinois Fighting Illini are the big surprise, as they jump 10 spots to No. 10. Texas jumps into the ranking and Ole Miss falls out. The Irish sit behind long-time rival USC in the rankings, and the top five is rounded out by Ohio State, Penn State and Clemson. Notre Dame football stays hot recruiting, adding 4-star 2026 Texas running back

Notre Dame football continued to add to its impressive 2026 recruiting class on Wednesday, as Texas running back Jonaz Walton picked the Irish over Stanford, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. The 5-foot, 9-inch and 205-pound back becomes commitment No. 16 for Notre Dame, in a class that is viewed as one of the best in the country. With Javian Osborne, the pair make one of the best verbal duos in the nation. Advertisement Walton is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 125 overall prospect, giving the Irish yet another top rated ball-carrier. While he is on the smaller side, we've seen Notre Dame have plenty of success with backs having a similar frame, Kyren Williams being a great example. Notre Dame is taking advantage of its momentum on the recruiting trail following its run to the College Football Playoff championship game, and that doesn't look like it will be slowing down any time soon. Top Notre Dame 2026 running back target has set his commitment date for next week

Top Notre Dame 2026 running back target has set his commitment date for next week Even though Notre Dame football added 4-star running back Javian Osborne to its 2026 recruiting class, they are always looking for at least a pair of ball carriers each cycle. One of the Irish's top targets is Georgia's Jonaz Walton, a 5-foot, 9-inch and 205-pound back that is ranked as the No. 124 overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite. On Wednesday, he announced that he will be making his commitment next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET from his high school. Walton will choose from five schools: Tennessee, Stanford, Florida, Alabama and Notre Dame and it's looking like he's going to be wearing Blue and Gold in college. There is just one 247Sports crystal ball pick that has been made, and it favors the Irish. He's taken an official visit to see the Cardinal already, but his remaining trips have been set for after his verbal will be made. Walton is scheduled to make it to South Bend starting on June 13th, and hopefully that's the only one he keeps on his docket after next Wednesday.

Running Back Javian Osborne Can't Wait to Bring a National Championship Back to Notre Dame

Notre Dame made a major statement on the recruiting trail when it landed Javian Osborne, one of the nation's most electric offensive players. The standout from Forney (Texas) High School picked Notre Dame over Michigan and an impressive live of suitors. Osborne, who checks in at 5-10 and 190 pounds, is widely considered one of the top running backs in the 2026 class, earning a 5.0-star upside grade on the Irish Breakdown board. Advertisement This is the first major recruiting win for new running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider, and it's a big one. Seider, who arrived with a strong reputation, wasted no time making a splash by going into Texas and pulling one of the state's best players. It's also a statement by Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Irish staff that they aren't just going to recruit nationally—they're going to win nationally. That message wasn't lost on Osborne, who made his expectations crystal clear, as was the primary reason he picked Notre Dame. 'Can't wait to bring this [national championship] back to South Bend!' Osborne told Irish Breakdown before getting into the reason he picked the Irish. 'Coach Freeman. He is the realest I've ever been around, and he knows how to lead young men and give them hope in their lives—something to live for.' Osborne has built great relationships with a lot of the Notre Dame staff, but its clear Seider made a big impact on this recruitment. Advertisement "Great! Love him," Osborne stated. "One of the best, if not the best running backs coach in college football right now. Outstanding.' Notre Dame didn't just win a recruiting battle—they brought in a leader and a culture fit. Osborne is not only an elite athlete, but also the kind of young man who will thrive at Notre Dame. His commitment to making an impact off the field is just as strong as his goals between the lines. 'Something I want the Irish fans to know about me is that I will give my all for Notre Dame Today,' he said. 'What does that mean? It means that on and off the field you're getting the full package—as a ball player and as a Notre Dame man. I will have a positive impact in the community.' As for his upcoming senior season? Osborne has big plans. Advertisement 'My goal for this upcoming season is to rush for over 2,500 yards and 50-plus total touchdowns—at minimum 45 rushing. I think it's a statement year for me! I gotta go out there and prove that I am who I am! I am one of none!' That confidence, that edge—it's exactly the kind of energy Notre Dame wants in its locker room. It's clear that Notre Dame is building a roster that will be able to compete for championships year after year. Notre Dame just added a difference maker—and he already has his eyes on a national title. Osborne brings a unique blend of speed, vision and physicality to the backfield. When you turn on the tape the traits pop: he sees the field with patience and burst, hits the hole with authority, and uses a quick jump cut to make defenders miss in tight spaces. But he's not just slippery—he's tough. Osborne finishes runs, breaks tackles, and has the speed to break off chunk plays and take it the distance. He also flashes reliable hands as a receiver, making him a true every-down threat.
